But little did he know that he was up against someone who has made it a habit to take punches. The Filipino failed to capitalise on the fact that Budler had just moved from light yweight down to minimumweight. He lost after 12 rounds by unanimous decision

Florante Condes
September 2012
Florante Condes vs Hekkie Budler (IBO minimumweight title defence) Records before contest: Budler: Fights: 21 Wins: 20 Losses: One Condes: Fights: 32 Wins: 25 Losses: Six Draws: One Having seen how his homeboy lost to Budler, Condes should have gured out how to get the upper hand against the rather skinny Hex. But Budlers stamina enabled him to take punches and capitalise on countering his opponent, which disturbed Condes. Budler won again by unanimous decision after 12 rounds

Renan Trongco
February 2013
Renan Trongco vs Hekkie Budler (IBO minimumweight title defence) Records before contest: Budler: Fights: 22 Wins: 21 Losses: One Trongco: Fights: 15 Wins: 12 Losses: Three Trongco, unlike his previous countrymen, matched Budler on almost everything. He looked like someone who had a concrete plan, and the ght was very balanced and could have gone to either ghter. Some even concluded the ght being awarded to Budler in the end came down to a home-turf decision by the judges

Vusi Malinga
March 2013
Diarh Gabutan vs Vusi Malinga (IBF world bantamweight eliminator) Records before contest: Malinga: Fights: 25 Wins: 21 Losses: Four Gabutan: Fights: 21 Wins: 18 Losses: One Draws: Two A seasoned campaigner of Malingas stature was never going to be a walk in the park for the relatively young Gabutan. But the Filipino showed he came to SA with strong intentions. Despite giving the Filipino a bit of a beating, Malinga was still given a good run for his money and was on the back foot from time to time. A win for the South African, by unanimous decision, never seemed in doubt though

Zolani Tete
March 2013
Eduard Penerio vs Zolani Tete (International bantamweight ght) Records before contest: Tete: Fights: 19 Wins: 16 Losses: Three Penerio: Fights: 16 Wins: 15 Losses: One Penerio is one of the worst boxers to come from the Philippines. Failing to throw a single signicant punch and getting knocked out cold in Round 1 was the ultimate embarrassment. It underlined the relative decline of Filipino boxing dominance on the world stage
