In spring (May/June) the Arctic reawakens with blooming exotic purple saxifrage flowers and massive migrations of birds and whales. About Our Trips

Think African Safariin the Arctic
Our land based trips are operated from either cabins, lodges or luxury safari style tented camps complete with wooden floors, heaters, electricity, super comfortable beds, goose down duvets, ample standing room, etc. they are located on the sea ice a safe distance from the floe edge, or on a flat expanse of pebbly beach. Many of these locations have been used by Inuit for generations and are still used to this day. These remote camps are ready for you upon arrival and designed to provide you with ultimate comfort and functionality. Our custom built base camps vary but typically consist of a kitchen structure for our gourmet chef to call home, and a large central meeting and dining location. Separate washroom facilities provide a private spot to freshen up with running water, washbasins and hot showers.

Designed for those short on time, but want a complete Arctic experience. These weekend getaways are typically about 4 days in length including the flights to/from the International gateway airport (such as Ottawa or Winnipeg) and will give you a taste of the Arctic. From dog sledding, igloo building, summer boat trips, arctic char fishing to scuba diving, theres an action packed getaway for all seasons.

The Lodge is a beautifully refurbished navy communications base which stands 300 feet on top of an old beach ridge located about 40 miles south of Churchill, MB. Canada.
The Lodge is in the middle of the tundra, with the nearest neighbour 40 miles away. It is self-sufficient complete with a wood burning fireplace to relax with fellow guests. The Lodge can accommodate up to 18 people. There are some rooms available as singles, but most rooms are up to 4 people to a room. Internet is available.

Adjacent to Wapusk National Park and the worlds largest polar bear denning area, this lodge-based expedition led by Arctic Kingdom offers a unique opportunity in North America to see, virtually guaranteed, polar bear cubs and their mothers in their natural habitat.
With a rare operating permit from Parks Canada, Lodge guides bring visitors as close as 100 metres to the bears, while you learn about various aspects of the bears dens, habits and life cycle. Other wildlife viewing opportunities include ptarmigan, arctic foxes, caribou herds and wolves in addition to night time viewing of aurora borealis.

Day 1
Arrive in Winnipeg, Manitoba and transfer to the Four Points Sheraton Hotel a short walk from the airport.
Day 2
We meet in the morning for our flight to Churchill. On our arrival in Churchill we will have an opportunity to explore while we wait for our 7:30pm train departure for Chesnaye. The train ride is approximately 2 hours. At Chesnaye, we disembark and will transfer to our waiting tracked vehicles for the 30min ride to the Lodge. We should arrive at the Lodge around 10pm.
After 7am breakfasts, we depart around 8:30am daily in the heated tracked vehicles in search of polar bear dens. Our scouts will go ahead and radio the vans where the locations of the dens are. In some cases, we go to where dens are already known to be, and on other days a new den could be found. Patience will be rewarded with anywhere from 1 to 3 newly born cubs with their mother polar bear at the mouth of a den. After dinner, take a peek at the night sky and see if the shimmering northern lights above the trees.

Arrive in Goose Bay, Labrador. Overnight in Goose Bay.
Day 2
After a delicious breakfast you will be brought to the Goose Bay airport for the thrilling 2 to 3 hour flight along the Labrador coast to the Torngat Mounatian Base Camp. With one final re-fuel stop in Nain, Labrador, you will then fly over the Torngat Mountains and land directly at the base camp. You may even see polar bears on your flight in! Youll be greeted by our welcome buffet prepared by our chef and a tour of your new accommodations. Settle into your heated Torngat Mountain Base camp complete with all the comforts of home your Arctic oasis.

From the curious young bears to mothers with cubs to an absolute giant of an alpha male, there are all types of polar bears to observe in their natural habitat. Day 3-6
Over the course of the next week, we will explore the jaw dropping mountains, fiords and bays in and around the Torngat Mountain National Park by snowmobiles and helicopter.

Remote tented camp
The goal of this camp is access to the caribou and an experience of a lifetime. We aim to make your Arctic experience as comfortable as possible with all the amenities of home despite being in some of the most remote frontier territory in the world. Inspired by mobile safari camps, this is a basic camp intended to be mobile to move to where the caribou are. It should be considered as comfortable camping complete with dining tent, heated sleep tents and a latrine style washroom. Set directly on the taiga/tundra known as the Barrenlands, with hot food prepared by your guides, the dining/lounge tent is a place to relax with your fellow trip members, trade stories, look at pictures just taken that day immediately on your laptops in a warm, dry environment. Afterwards, retire to your spacious warm tent, through large door ways with ample standing room. Relax and place your head on pillows while stretching out on the raised beds with down-filled sleeping bags. We have perfected the art of a remote camp with all the amenities of home. It is your Arctic home away from home.

Every spring, in early May, the Qamanirjuaq caribou herd begins to gather together and the call to reach their calving grounds drives them northward 300miles/480km. The Qamanirjuaq caribou number in the hundreds of thousands and are one of the healthiest herds in Canada. The nature of the northern topography where the caribou
roam, from treeless taiga and tundra, to river valleys, to large lakes, form natural corridors that the caribou follow on predictable routes that to reach their calving grounds. It is in these corridors that Arctic Kingdom will establish a tented base camp to fly you into and allow for unprecedented access to this natural spectacle.

Wildlife Photography Short Hikes Snowmobiling
PLAY AN ACTIVE ROLE IN CARIBOU RESEARCH Caribou research is an extremely expensive and time consuming exercise due to size of the herds and the extent of the geography they cover. Photographers with Arctic Kingdom on this trip are encouraged to assist the caribou research project by providing photographs of the caribou to researchers to assist in classifying the herd composition. Contact Arctic Kingdom for more details.
Day 2
Depart Winnipeg for Arviat. Arrive at approximately noon. We will get settled in your hotel and then visit the local wildlife office to meet with the caribou biologists. A town tour and local Inuit cultural performance and community dinner will round out the evening.
On a privately chartered plane, we depart Arviat early in the morning and will land directly in camp. Before landing in camp, we will aim to take some aerial photographs of the caribou as they stretch from horizon to horizon. We will have local snowmobiles in camp do conduct daily sorties to where the caribou pass by. Each day will be spent venturing out from our base camp to photograph and experience the caribou migration. It also possible that we will encounter other tundra species of wildlife: musk ox, wolves, Arctic fox, and grizzly bear.

The Qamanirjuaq herd is a healthy population of approximately 350,000 animals that winters below the treeline in Manitoba and Northwest Territories and then journeys each spring north to the calving grounds on the tundra northwest of Arviat. Working in close partnership with the territorial caribou biologists, who have radio-collared a number of the caribou and our local Inuit guides, Arctic Kingdom will situate the caribou camp close to the migration route. Guests will experience one of the worlds most fascinating mass migrations outside of the Serengeti up close and personal. The Spring Caribou viewing camp will be set up in advance of your arrival.

Day 0
Arrive in Ottawa and overnight in hotel of your choice.
Day 1
Depart Ottawa for Iqaluit and ultimately Pond Inlet. This is where your journey begins. After dinner, enjoy a cultural presentation of Inuit throat singing, drumdancing and storytelling by local elders.
Each dive will build on the previous dive experience from open water diving off the floe edge to ice-pack diving where ice can be 10 feet above the surface and then shoot down 90 feet or more, in spires resembling a reversed cathedral tower. Witness the surreal world of blue, turquoise juxtaposed with the black depths below. The play of light on ice and water is a photographers paradise. Dive sites change year to year as ice conditions differ, but when possible we will attempt to dive alongside a grounded iceberg accessed through cracks. The dimpled sides, old water run-off tunnels and different light patterns emanating from cracks and melt water pools from above is mind- bendingly cool. Where and when possible, we will attempt to dive with the passing Narwhal. Potentially also see polar bears. Minimum dive certification is Advanced. Drysuit experience preferred but we can work with you to get you comfortable.

Depart Ottawa for Iqaluit and onto Pond Inlet (approximately 4hrs of flying time). Your journey begins when you arrive in Pond Inlet. After dinner, enjoy a truly authentic cultural presentation of Inuit throat singing, drum dancing and storytelling by local elders. Overnight in Pond Inlet hotel.
While enjoying warm, spring-like temperatures, watch for narwhals, ring seals, and more than 15 species of migratory birds. During the week there is a chance to observe polar bears in the pack ice possibly on the prowl for seals, and we may get lucky and see bowhead whales. Pure white ivory gulls, king eider ducks, low flying northern fulmars, thick-billed murres and kittiwakes are just a few of the bird species in the area. Ice conditions permitting, well visit Bylot Islands nearby bird cliff sanctuary in Sirmilik National Park.

Set on a pebble beach on an island, with heartyfood prepared by a private chef, the dining/lounge tent is a place to relax with your fellowtrip members, it is big enough for the entire group to sit comfortably and eat, read, relax, share stories or look at the pictures you took that day on your laptop. Day 1
Depart Ottawa for Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut. Change planes and arrive in Igloolik/Hall Beach the starting communities from which our journey begins. Transfer to our waiting snowmobiles and boats and travel out to the luxury outpost safaristyle base camp where our chef has prepared a welcome dinner.
Day 4
We journey out again by boat. The bright sun reflecting off the crystal-clear flat waters is simply magical. We come upon four large floating islands of ice covered with Walrus. At least a hundred animals sit on each island. Steam rises from the group as they sun themselves. We observe the walrus diving for clams and repeatedly hauling themselves out of the water and back up onto their resting platform on the ice.

We take our first visit to the floe edge where sea ice meets the open water. Here we familiarize ourselves with this new environment. Wonder at the numerous sea birds diving and swooping over the water.

Fly-in by private plane from Goose Bay, Labrador, to a luxury safari-style base camp where you can kayak, boat and heli-hike, and keep an eye out for polar bears and black bears in Canadas stunning Torngat Mountains National Park alongside the Nunatsiavut Inuit, Parks Canada guides and arctic researchers. This one week luxury eco-adventure, photography, culture and science safari, in one of Canadas newest and picturesque parks, with glaciers, deep fiords, wide valleys filled with blooming flowers, will showcase the best the arctic summer has to offer. This is a wildlife and landscape lovers paradise.
The designer Yurt style structures consist of dining, lecture hall and sleeping quarters. Arctic Kingdom guests will be settled into Yurts complete with twin or king beds with duvets, pillow, comforters, heat and electricity (double occupancy). The Torngat Mountain Safari basecamp can accommodate up to 80 people, made up of arctic researchers, Arctic Kingdom clients & staff, and Parks Canada staff wardens. Showers and fully functional bathrooms are available. Power is 110 volts provided by our onsite solar power station.

Arrive in Goose Bay Labrador, Canada where you will be met by an Arctic Kingdom greeter and town host. Overnight in Goose Bay (-/-/D) polar bears co-exist. We will explore the fiords in search of the Polar Bears and Black bears. We should also have a chance to see Caribou Wolf Arctic Fox, and of course, the ever plentiful seals such as the Bearded, Harbour and Ring seals. Helicopter Flight Seeing / Heli-hiking We will have a helicopter on site allowing us to take a 15-min helicopter tour over the highest peaks of the Torngat Mountains, We can touch down anywhere giving us the option to hike a few hours over the tundra, through willows and over grassy fields and bright flowers back to the basecamp or take the helicopter directly back to basecamp. Historical Inuit Sites by Boat Inuit ancestors have travelled throughout the area for more than 5,000 years. Torngat comes from the Inuit word torngait which means place of spirits. During the week, while we keep an eye out for Polar Bears and other wildlife we will visit ancient sites that were home to the Inuit in earlier times such as Hebron (the site of an abandoned Inuit village complete with remnants of buildings and a restored missionary church) and Sallikuluk (Rose Island). These trips will be conducted with the Nunatsiuvut Inuit, Parks Canada guides, and arctic researchers where you can have the opportunity to observe and possibly participate in arctic research in action.

Kayaking We take the kayaks out, some are doubles and others are single kayaks down spectacular fjords where the Inuit ancestors have camped and walked before. We stop for lunch to listen to the Inuit tell ancient stories and legends of the area as you sip on hot tea and eat hot food that has been prepared over an open fire Hiking Along with bear guards we will hike the spectacular valley, full of blooming flowers and braided streams. Chances of an inland polar bear encounter is rare, but precautions are taken nonetheless. A helicopter heli-hike will also be done. Why not try to hike to the top of the 1000 foot high mountain in behind the Base Camp to reward yourself with sweeping panoramic views of the Torngat Mountains. All days: (B/L/D)

Day 2
Board our private plane for the Torngat Mountain base camp. Fly literally over hundreds of islands, deep fiords, inlets and watch as the dense pine forests surrounding Goose Bay become thinner and more sparse until finally, you are over the tree line. Our final approach will swoop over the Torngat Mountains and land at the Saglek Fiord airstrip. We will transfer to a waiting boat and head down the Saglek Fiord to the Basecamp Lodge that is nestled at the foot of the Torngat Mountains surrounded by flat Tundra, and wild rivers. Settle into your Arctic Safari yurt style accommodations complete with duvets, pillows and blankets. Research in Action
Guests will have an opportunity to live and interact with researchers and, under certain conditions, accompany them in the field. After being on the land on a day trip, coming back to the safari-inspired base camp is a pleasurable experience. Set directly on the shoreline of a freshwater lake, with hot food prepared by a private chef, the dining/lounge tent is a place to relax with your fellow trip members, trade stories, look at pictures just taken that day immediately on your laptops in a warm, dry environment. Afterwards, retire to your spacious warm tent, through large door ways with ample standing room. Arrive in Winnipeg and transfer to your local hotel.
Day 1
Depart Winnipeg for Churchill. Transfer to your waiting float plane for the transfer to your remote tundra Caribou base camp. En route to camp we should get some excellent aerial views of the migrating caribou herd. Arrival should be around 1PM at the base camp. Spend the day in camp, and explore the tundra with your Inuit guides. With any luck we should have caribou right at our doorstep!
photography opportunities. We will also conduct short hikes on the colourful tundra. In most cases, the caribou are not startled by our presence and will approach on their own out of curiosity where we are close enough that we can listen to them breathe and look directly into their eyes. During your time here, we should also have a chance of seeing muskox, arctic wolf, and arctic fox. If we are lucky, this is also the home of black bears and we may see one or more. Wolverines are also possible. The prime northern lights band is at 60 degrees latitude. The base camp, situated on the beach of a fresh water lake, sits directly beneath this main band of northern lights occurrences giving us a high probability of seeing them nightly.

Day trips by boat or by ATV onto the tundra to locate caribou. Caribou will be found in long ribbons crossing rivers, lakes and large tracts of open tundra. We will use boats to travel up the lakes and rivers that surround the base camp to search for the caribou crossings that day. There should be opportunities to witness mother caribou with calves, large male caribou with giant racks that are at their peak condition and size. Guided by local Inuit guides who have hunted and survived off the caribou for 1000s of years, we can watch as they track, and follow the caribou for the best

Day 1
Depart Winnipeg for Churchill. On arrival transfer to your private charter for a 40-min flight to the Arviat Polar Bear Cabins your home for 5 days. This is halfway between Churchill and Arviat on the Hudson Bay Coast, just south of the mighty Gellini River and right among Polar Bear Alley. Here we live, observe and photograph these great, white bears as they wait for both the river and the Hudson Bay coast to freeze for the winter.
