Chapter 3 RESEARCH METHODS

This chapter deals with methods and procedures to be use in the study. This includes the research design, research setting, respondents of the study, research instrument, data gathering procedure and statistical treatment.

Research Design The study used descriptive research. This kind of research enabled the study to describe the teachers training needs as perceived by college instructors themselves. Furthermore, descriptive research could show the differences and relationship of variables presented in the study by describing the level of significance between variables.

Research Environment The study was conducted in College of Business Administration, Mindanao Sanitarium and Hospital Colleges during the S.Y. 2012-2013. The college had two courses to offer. They are Bachelors of Science in Business Administration Major in Human Resource Development Management and Bachelors of Science in Business Administration Major in Financial Management. The total population of teachers in the college is 11 and 50 students. Mindanao Sanitarium and Hospital Colleges is located at Brgy. San Miguel, Iligan City along Tibanga Highway going to Cagayan de Oro City/Pagadian City.

Respondents The respondents of this study were the college instructors of the College of Business Administration at Mindanao Sanitarium and Hospital Colleges. The study used purposive sampling procedure. These respondents answered the questionnaire prepared for them.

Research Instruments and their Validity The study used researcher made questionnaires to be answered by College of Business Administration instructors. The questionnaire will have two parts. Part 1 was on the profile of respondents in terms of age, gender and civil status. Part 2 was on the criteria in the training needs of instructors. Respondents answered by rating the items represent the training needs of instructors answerable by yes or no.

Data Gathering Procedure Data gathering process followed in this manner. First, a letter of recommendation for the researchers to conduct their study was taken from the dean of the College of Business Administration, Mindanao Sanitarium and Hospital Colleges, Iligan City through the Human Resource Department. Then the researchers met the different respondents and administer of the questionnaires. The respondent were given (5) minutes to answer them after which they said questionnaire will be retrieved. Data were checked, scored, and analyzed.

Statistical Treatment The data gathered in the conduct of this study were analyzed using the following statistical tools. 1. Frequency and Percentage were used to determine the profile of respondents and the training needs. 2. Chi square was used to determine the differences of variables.
