Major Issue: a. Visual Aids, the visual materials that accompany a verbal presentation given by a teacher, are of a very high value in enhancing/assisting in the learning process.

Minor issues: a. Some teachers use visual aids wisely. b. Some teachers never use use visual aids. c. The choice of the type of visual aids may complement the learning pace of the students.

Related Topics a. Teachers who uses visual aids well have students with better understanding of the subject matter. b. The design of the materials for some visual aids is of utmost importance to the teachers for them to be able to optimize the use of visual opportunities.

Discussion: The choice of type of visual aids for utilization is partly determined by the amount of time that can be spent for preparation as well as the applicability of the visual aid. It generally is affected by the following factors: a. The teaching method use b. The characteristic of the student c. Where the aid is to be used d. the no. of students to be taught e. Time available for preparation f. The attitude and skill of the teacher A specific type of visual aids is appropriate for an intended output like for example, the best use of hand outs is cognitive content with individual work; the best use for board work is for group work, where production costs needs to be kept low and is best for effective objectives and the best use of Overhead Projector transparencies is for group work and is best for cognitive objectives.

Conclusion/s (one or more) There is no hard and fast rule in the selection of type of visual aids to be use for teaching. The design of the visual aids, if at all determined that it is required to further the learning objective, starts in the mind of the teacher. The important thing is that the visual aid to be develop and to be utilize is one which does a particular job to assist in the learning of a particular topic for a particular group of students always bearing in mind that what may work for one group of students may not necessarily be good for another.

Recommendation: The teacher, to be more effective in her chosen craft. should also develop the skill of being able to determine the need to provide visual aids, to determine the appropriate type of visual

aid required, the creativity to develop them and the skill to properly utilize them. He/She should be able to think outside the box and not to confine the learning process in a conventional way. There are many ways and tools that are available to enhance the learning process and the teachers are way better off to utilize them.
