CONCEPT STATEMENT: Electrical power systems are necessary for the generation, distribution and transmission of electricity to consumers. One component of this system is the induction motor which converts electrical energy from ac into mechanical energy. Induction motors are widely used in domestic and industrial applications to make work done more efficiently and effectively. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to: State the two types of AC motors State the advantages and disadvantages of induction motors Stipulate where induction are used identify the construction features of the stator and the rotors used in the induction motor Correlate the 3-phase current to the flux position and hence the rotor position in a 3-phase induction motor Describe a Universal Motor Describe the Principle of Operation of Single Phase Induction Motors Draw the types of Single Phase Induction Motors Build a Single Phase Induction Motors PROCESS SKILLS: During this lesson, students will be engaged in: Identifying / formulating a problem Designing and Planning an experimental procedure Setting-up and executing experimental work Observing and measuring Recording of data and observations Interpreting and evaluating data and observations Communicating scientific ideas, observations and arguments Applying scientific ideas and methods to solve qualitative and quantitative problems Decision-making based on examination of evidence and arguments Extracting from available information data relevant to a particular situation Classification Knowledge Knowledge Knowledge Comprehension Application Knowledge Knowledge Comprehension Psychomotor

ACTIVITIES: Introduction: T presents video S guess name of topic based on video T introduces lessen and objectives for the session

Development: Teacher makes session 1 multimedia presentation S work in groups to do Activity based on presentation S discuss material and give T their findings T consolidates responses with the help of presentation S go into group again for discussion on types of ac motors S summarizes information and presents their findings T consolidates with slides S do activity 3 in groups

Consolidation: S complete formative assessment T summarises
