Basics of Networking : Network: The Interconnection of two or more devices is called network.

Networking : To enable the communication between two or more devices is called networking. Need of Networking: Speed: We can retrieve the date from one system to another without wasting the time. Resource sharing: We can minimize the cost spent on resources by sharing the resources such as Printers, Fax, and Email Services etc. Communication: It helps in sending and receiving email messages which contains voice picture video and teleconferencing. Backup fail over: It provides additional means of backup which are used if the original data is lost or corrupted. It provides an improved communication between user ensuring that information is available to users. Different types of Networking:LAN: Local Area Network. A network which is established within a defined area is called LAN network. It operates within a limited geographical location and provides fulltime Connectivity to local services. MAN: Metropolitan Area Network. A Network which is established within the city only connecting different LANs. It provides full time and part-time connectivity. WAN: Wide Area Network. A Network which is established without any defined area like city to city, State state, country country .It operates over a large geographical location and provides fulltime and part-time connectivity.

Requirements of the Networking.: 1.Systems. 2.Operating Systems. 3.Media. 4.Topology. 5.Protocols 6.NIC or LAN Card or Ethernet Card 7.Network Devices 8.IP Address. Operating Systems: Interface between the user and computer or hardware. Types of Operating Systems: 1.Server operating system: NT,2000,2003,2008. 2.Client operating system: win 98,ME,2000 professional,xp,vista. Server O.S: The Operating system which contains some database is called Server operating system.In server operating system we can configure services like DNS,DHCP,RAS,IIS etc.,. Client O.S: The Operating system which acess the database present in server operating system.Server services can not be installed in client operating system. History of Microsoft networking operating systems : Windows NT 3.1 released in 1993. Windows NT 3.5 released in 1994. Windows NT 4.0 released in 1996. Windows NT 5.0 was renamed as windows 2000. Windows NT 5.2 was renamed as windows 2003. Windows NT 6.0 was renamed as windows 2008 Windows 2000 Windows 2000 professional.
