The course also concentrates on the practice and reinforcement of reading skills. In addition, basic dictionary skills are emphasized. General Objectives By the end of the course the student will demonstrate competency in the following language skills: A. B. C. Write at least a 250- word, five-paragraph essay using the grammar aspects and a variety of writing modes presented and developed during the semester. Read, understand, and interpret reading selections applying the skills presented . Use the dictionary effectively for reading and writing applying the principles presented. Online Course Requisites Each student is required to comply with the following requirements: A. Satisfactory completion of English 109, and English 115 . B. An interview with the professor during the first two weeks of class during the professors office hours. C. Students must participate in required online chats in English and in online office hours for a minimum of 10 participations per semester. The student will call the professor or send him/her an email to excuse him or herself immediately if an illness or personal situation impedes the student to connect to the class. Students must take tests on the day and hour assigned. Students must complete assignments, tests, activities, and practice exercises according to the dates and times scheduled. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. There are no make-up quizzes, classwork or assignments if you missed the deadline. WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED VIA PROFESSORS EMAIL ONLY THROUGH MOODLE (Bajo ninguna circunstancia se aceptarn trabajos enviados al correo electrnico del profesor.) Assignments must be completed according to the request of the professor. No makeup of tests will be permitted without a legitimate excuse. If a student misses a test and presents a legitimate he/she is required to attend the university within 2 class days and take a makeup test in the professors office during office hours. The student should communicate in English at all times. Students are required to make use of the professor's online office hours for a minimum of 5 participations per semester. Institutional Tutoring Services located in the Student Center are available. See professor for referral. Student must save copies of all documents, handouts, assignments, exercises and files on a USB, CD, or hard drive. Plagiarizing any type of information of any nature will be sanctioned according to the Student Guide (Normas y Polticas Institucionales y Reglamento De Estudiantes Artculo VI, Seccin 2 y 3). Any type of written task detected and evidenced as plagiarized will result in an automatic zero (0). Students are required to maintain a respectful online and personal communication with the professor and classmates at all times. Evaluation The universitys standard grading system is used. The teacher's evaluation is worth 2/3 of the final grade, and may consist of the following: tests, quizzes, writing assignments, special projects, reflective journals, discussions and chats, among others.
