AMATS solution offers several options, allowing you to tailor the system for your particular application:
There are two options for the tower site antenna system:
If the distance is greater than 5 miles, an Ellipse antenna should be used for higher isotropic gain. If the difference in height between tower site and mobile unit is greater than 500ft, an Ellipse antenna should be used.

Ellipse PTP

Feasibility study for AMATS solution:
Real conditions project study for one of Winncoms customers is shown on the right. Overall estimated performance is: 15.6 mi distance 200 Mbps of throughput (TCP) 99.998% availability

Obviously, customers location is favorable for AMATS deployment. At the same time results do exceed typical expectations. Less favorable locations still deliver unparalleled performance in comparison with any other solutions available on the market today.

System Engineering Questions:
System Design Questions: 1. Data Backhaul. What are your options to establish communication between the MCU and the TCU? a. VHF/UHF Do you have a license? If so, what frequency? If not, would you be willing to obtain a license? b. EVDO If you do not have a VHF/UHF license or are unwilling to obtain one, EVDO is the best option. 2. Maximum Coverage Distance. What is the maximum distance between the MCU and the TCU? This will help determine the appropriate TCU antenna. a. If the distance is greater than 5 miles, an Ellipse antenna should be used. b. If the distance is less than 5 miles, the smaller Ultrascan can be used. 3. Minimum Coverage Distance. What is the closest expected distance from the TCU to the MCU? a. If the distance is less than a half mile, an Ellipse antenna should be used to make use of the motorized elevation beam width control.

System Engineering Questions:
System Design Questions: 4. Elevation Difference. The difference in elevation between the MCU and the TCU will help determine if an Ellipse is needed for the motorized elevation beam width control. a. What is the elevation above sea level for the TCU antenna? b. What is the elevation for the typical location of the command vehicle?
* If the difference in height is greater than 500ft, an Ellipse antenna should be used.

5. Tower/Building Control Info. a. What is the distance between the tower control antenna and the TCU controller? This will determine how long the antenna control cable needs to be. b. What is the distance between the tower controls UHF/VHF antenna and the TCU controller? This will determine how long the VHF/UHF extension cable needs to be. c. What type of mount will be needed? Ellipse/Ultrascan top or side mount. 6. Mobile Command Unit Info. a. What type of vehicle will be used? b. Will the antenna be roof-mounted or mast-mounted? c. What is the typical and maximum elevation of the mast on the vehicle? d. How long will the control cable need to be?

System Engineering Questions:
Tower/Structure Mounting Questions: 1. What are the overall Tower Height above ground level in feet (AGL-FT) and the Mount Installation Height in feet (AGL-FT)? 2. What is the Clear Unobstructed Leg Area (in)? The basic mount requires approximately 60 of clear, unobstructed tower leg to mount to. This clear area must not have any leg flanges or member gussets in the way. 3. What is the Tower Vertical Leg Configuration? Does the tower have 3 or 4 vertical legs? 4. What is the Tower Vertical Leg Type? Does the tower have a round pipe or angle iron vertical legs? If other, please note the exact type. 5. What is the Tower Vertical Taper in degrees? Straight or no taper? Tower taper can range from 2 to 5 degrees. This is a very important measurement and will determine the levelness of the mount.

System Engineering Questions:
Tower/Structure Mounting Questions: 6. What is the Tower Face Span Between Legs (in)? Inside to inside and center to center of the legs at the proposed mount height. Is the face clear of obstructions? Is there any other mount structures or antennas that will interfere with new mount structures? 7. If the tower has round legs, what is the diameter and circumference? 8. If the tower has angle iron legs, what are the angle iron dimensions? Is the angle iron a true 90 degree angle or more like a V shape? If shaped more like a V, more specific measurements will be required. 9. If the tower has angle iron legs, what is the thickness of the steel in inches? 10. Will a custom ice shield be required? If the antenna is going to be installed in an area that is prone to any ice or snow, then an ice shield should be considered. Each ice shield is custom depending on antenna mounting location and height, as well as other factors. If the antenna is going to be installed near the top of a 1000ft tower, it may be constructed differently than if mounted near the middle of a 1000ft tower. If the antenna is going to be mounted on a smaller tower next to a larger tower, then falling ice from the larger tower should be considered.
