Why Now? That Award by the Brazilian state of Roraima to Bharat Jagdeo!

The Ambassador of Brazil to Guyana Dear Sir/Ms., We refer to the article in the Stabroek news of Guyana of 4 22 13, and in particular the story captioned "Jagdeo conferred with award by Brazilian state of Roraima". We also direct your attention to the online article "Greed, Genocide ... and now 'Green': Corruption and Underdevelopment in Guyana" ( http://www.scribd.com/doc/17958657/Greed-Genocide-and-now-GreenCorruption-and-Underdevelopment-in-Guyana ), and would appreciate if you forwarded same to the Office of the Governor of Roraima and the Brazilian Press, and asked of them the following question: Why this, why now, why in spite of the evidence that hundreds of young Guyanese were killed while Mr. Jagdeo was in office? We would also direct your attention to the implications of the online article "30,012 Gun Licences; Guyana Review; June 1999" ( http://www.scribd.com/doc/7239199/30012-Gun-Licences-Guyana-Review-June-1999 ). To the extent that the amount of licences (and so presumably weaponry) may have doubled or tripled by now, the administration associated with former President Jagdeo is engaging in the dangerous process of arming ethnic enclaves of the population. Finally, we make the point that the definitive summary of Mr. Jagdeo's stewardship to the people of Guyana is facilitated by the commentary noted by a Guyanese newspaper in the article "Shaheed Roger Khan: Drugs, Dirty money and the Death Squad (http://www.stabroeknews.com/2009/guyana-review/08/20/shaheed%E2%80%98roger%E2%80%99-khan-drugs-dirty-money-and-the-death-squad/ ) . The following excerpt from this last summarizes the cynicism with which the local press now view the political climate: Shaheed Roger Khan was one of the most complete criminals in Guyanas history. He acquired vast p r o p e r t i e s , r e c r u i t e d s e r v i n g p o l i c e o f f i c e r s , o r d e r e d e x e c u t i o n s , i m p o r t e d a n d e x p o r t e d c o c a i n e , laundered millions of dollars, possessed specialised intercept equipment and armed himself with a wide assortment of handguns and ammunition. A l l o f t h i s w a s possible only because of his special r e l a t i o n s h i p with the Guyana G o v e r n m e n t . H e e n j o y e d i m m u n i t y f r o m a n i n d u l g e n t administration and compliant law enforcement agencies. Even now, the administration has made no attempt to conduct official inquiries nor has the police force attempted to bring Khan and his well-known accomplices to justice..." Again, why this, why now, why in spite of the evidence that hundreds of young Guyanese were killed while Mr. Jagdeo was in office? And we havent even addressed the assassination of Ronald Waddell, and the torture of many by the security forces during Mr. Jagdeos tenure! We believe that all Guyanese, and indeed all Brazilians, need explanations to this development. Sincerely Roger Williams April 22, 2013 (Resubmitted to the Press April 23, 2013) For another perspective, refer too to the online summary Bharat Jagdeo, Reepu Daman, Vishnu Bisram, Enmore Martyrs Day ... and an Indefatigable Hypocyisy
