GOOD luck to Neston man Neil
Campbell who is doing a gruelling 125
mile walk in aid of heart research in
honour of his two-year-old nephew who
has heart disease.

NESTON man Neil Campbell is doing a
charity walk in honour of his little nephew
who has serious heart problems.
Neil, who lives with his partner Emma
Lewis in Raby Road, is taking part in the
British Heart Foundation Walk, which is
125 miles around the coast of Anglesey in
late May.
His two-year-old nephew was born
with a serious heart condition. He has
undergone open heart surgery and
countless procedures since he was born.
Alder Hey Hospital recently found there is
nothing more that can be done and he is
now on palliative care.
Emma said: This little man is so full of
life you would never know anything was
wrong except the occasional blueness
and needing more and more sleep.
The doctors in the hospital explained
his condition in these simple terms, every
step that we take is a marathon to him.
Because nobody can help him directly,
Neil has decided to make a difference for
the future patients.
He has already raised over 500 through

entertained us with amusing tales from the
Wirral and Merseyside at the March meeting.
Ghostly stories of the sea monster Morgwar
in Liverpool Bay, the Ghost Ship S S
Presidentwhich sank in 1841 and unexpectedly
appears from fog banks in the estuary, and of
the steamship Lottie Sleigh which exploded
in the Mersey in 1864 and caused widespread
mayhem. He told the colourful journey of
Ness girl Amy (or Emily) Lyons who later
became Emma, Lady Hamilton, Lord Nelsons
mistress.
A fashion show Spring into Summer will be
held at the Gladstone Hall Burton, on 25th
April at 7.30pm , tickets are 7.50 including
Cheese and Wine. Clothes provided by M&Co,

Meetings take place at St. Michaels Church,
Marshlands Road, Little Neston, at 7.30pm on
the frst Tuesday of the month. In April it is the
Birthday Dinner at the Merebrook Hotel, which
replaces the usual meeting.

The Neston and Parkgate
Committee of North West Cancer
Research (NWCR) is encouraging
people to try their luck to win
a handmade dolls house. The
three-dimensional house, which
measures almost a meter square
and includes lifelike fttings and
fxtures. The raffe started on 2nd
March at Gordale Garden Centre
before moving to Brimstage
Courtyard over Easter weekend
then it will return to Gordale on 6th
April for the fnal draw at 12pm.

Cadets lead the way
AIr cadets from 2375 Squadron in Neston have shown they are a force to be reckoned
with. Four members, Flight Sergeant Jack Daker, Flight Sergeant Natalie Fields,
Flight Sergeant Callum Reid and Corporal James Wilson, took part in the annual
Wing Adventure Training Expedition Competition, taking on 17 other squadrons from
Merseyside Wing, coming out
on top. This is an amazing feat,
especially since they won it last
year too. They each received a
gold medal for their efforts, and the
squadron got to keep the trophy for
another 12 months.
The competition encompassed
all their training in kayaking,
mountain biking, navigation, frst
aid, rock climbing, archery and kit
check. The fnal day was a group
orienteering exercise.

Parents provide pads!
The Parents Association Fundraising objective has been met and they have
recently bought eight Ipads for St Winefrides rC Primary School. These will be
used in interactive lessons as well as on an individual basis. The children were
really excited when they were presented to them and are keen to start using them.
St Winefrides PA is continuing to fund-raise in order to provide the extras for
the school and the children and have many more requests to fulfl. Support from

The great outdoors
Children in two classes at Neston
Primary School have enjoyed
residential visits in recent weeks.
In January, the Year 4 children spent
three days at the Outdoor Education Centre in Burwardsley, Cheshire. The children
took part in many fabulous activities including - a bird of prey display, candle making,
hiking, art work and learning about the Celts.
In February, the Year 6 children had a magnifcent - if muddy - week at The Conway
Centre on Anglese, taking part in canoeing, abseiling, rafting, rock climbing, a ropes
course, zip-wire and bush-craft.themselves and have come away with memories that
will stay with them forever.

WHAT a busy time at Sainsburys Neston,
celebrating Comic relief. It was a fun
packed and hectic schedule for all the
staff particularly on Friday 15th March -
Red Nose Day.
They held a cake sale, wore Red Nose
Day T-shirts, dressed up and Alex Hill
(right) endured the pain of having his legs
waxed among other events.
Toni Waring sold the most scratchcards
in store (left) Chris Phipps made a
Sainsburys Basics Curry and sold it at
1 per scoop to colleagues - and very
delicious it was too (middle)
Customers took part in the Malteser Cheeky Chopstick
Challenge - this entailed transferring Maltesers from
one bowl to another as quickly as possible - not easy
to do. Local hairdresser Zoe was the fastest at an
incredible 27 seconds. she won the Goody box full of
malteser treats.
Paula Prytherch from Hip and
Harmony Cic brought along her
Street Dance Kids - they ranged
in age from tots to teens and all
did some fantatic performances
in the square outside the store.
They raised 80 for Comic Relief.

certainly drew a crowd.

Pupils learn about rescue dog Tess
Children taking part in Bishop Wilson Primary Schools Book & Board Club were treated
to a very important visitor recently. On her way to Crufts 2013, Tess a trainee Search
& Rescue Dog and her handler John came to give a short talk about her training and we
all had the opportunity to fnd out more about the important job that Tess will be carrying
out when fully trained.

Neston Crafty Market, 10am-3pm, 20 stalls with beautiful hand-crafted items made by local

Thursday 11th April
Burton & Neston History Society: Aye never counted: how Wirral fared in the 1851 religious
census, a talk by Graeme White, at Gladstone Hall, Burton, 7.30pm.
Monday 15th April
Parkgate Society Victoria Cross Holders in the Wirral Peninsular a talk by Denis Rose, 8pm,
in the Cranston Suite, Neston Cricket Club, Station Road, Parkgate. Visitors welcome.
Saturday 20th April
Friends of Burton Manor course Speed Painting, 10am 4pm. Like `speed dating the results
can be amazing! The size of your brush will determine the speed, spontaneity and dramatic
result of the fnished artwork. As there is no attention to detail it is ideal for the novice painter
who would like to learn a confdent, fun and new approach to accomplishing a large canvas
painting in one day. You may create a landscape/seascape/still life painting,etc. of your own
choice, by using larger household brushes.Some experience of painting with either oils or

Neston and District Art Society are holding their Annual Exhibition of Paintings and Crafts at
neston Town Hall, 9am-5pm on the frst two days, and until 4pm on the Saturday. Admission is
free and refreshments will be available. This year Awards to members will be judged by Tony
Prosser, a well-known local artist.
