OGUNS INCESTUOUS ACT

The God Ogun was the son of Obatala. Obatala would leave home to attend to his business as king over humans and gods. While he was away, hed leave the enchanted rooster Osun and Elegbara (Eshu) to guard the home and to report on all that transpired. But Ogun had begun to feel lust for Yemmu, his own mother, and eventually she felt lust for him. Ogun would take Elegbas food and give it to Osun and would lock Elegba out of the house. Stuffed, Osun would fall asleep and with Elegba locked out, Ogun and Yemmu were free to make love. At length, Obatala noticed that Eshu (Elegba) was getting gaunt and that Osun was becoming obese. He asked, Whats going on, Eleggua? Elegbara spilled the beans. Obatala decided to find out the truth. He mounted his horse to leave, but then doubled back and, indeed, caught the two lovers in the act. Before Obatala could curse Ogun, Ogun repented and swore himself to banishment in the forest. He promised to teach humans the secrets of forging weapons and tools. Obatala spared Ogun under those conditions, but said, The next manchild you have, him I will kill. Because of Osuns

lack of vigilance, he turned him over to Eleggua to be his slave. Because of Elegguas suffering due to Obatalas own inability to see what was going on, Obatala gave Eshu to right to eat first and be propitiated first. Dont be fooled by the seeming simplicity of this story. African wisdom and science is so deep that its depth hides beneath the childlike simplicity of the story. African wisdom transmission is conveyed opposite to the way Western knowledge is conveyed. James Brown sang, Talkin loud and saying nothing. Western knowledge uses very complex words to convey simplistic or even nonsensical ideas. African scientists use simplistic language to convey majestic truths that convey wisdom on multiple levels. Lets uncover some of the storys depths of meaning. Obatala means king of the white cloth. To the Egyptians, Obatallah is Ausar (Osiris) whose symbol was the white crown. The white crown signifies the bright white light thats seen in meditation when the pineal gland is active and the crown energy center vibrates or pulsates powerfully. Obatala stands for the one true self or universal soul that can never be cut or divided. He is associated with the planet Pluto, God of the underworld (collective subconscious). In New Age philosophy, Obatallah is the Oversoul which straddles all of ones infinite lives. Obatala leaving home points to the inevitable death of a persons body so that his true self is not focused or active in the material world. Ogun is the principle of aggression, fire, speed, activity, sexual force, analysis, athleticism and individuality. He is Mars, the God of War. His Egypt name is Herukhuti. Yemmu is Yemaya, the personal opening to the subconscious. She is Isis or the Virgin Mary of other traditions. She is the principle of the states of receptivity, called trance. When a peoples emotions are seduced by the military industrial complex, that is fulfilment of the Ogun-Yemmu metaphor. We saw a perverse expression of that illicit act in the fear-mongering and WMD lies that were used to justify Americas invasion and destruction of Iraq. Orwells 15 minute Hate in 1984 is another example of using fear (Ogun) to seduce the masses (Yemmu) to support war.

The offspring of such a mating is invariably evil, so Obatala curses Oguns next son, i.e., whatever is produced by the seed (suggestion) he placed inside Yemmu (receptive mind). We can now begin to trace the story of Noahs son Ham seeing his nakedness. Thats a Hebrew expression for having illicit relations with another mans wife. Their offspring was, metaphorically, Canaan. So just as Obatala turned his fury from his eldest son, Ogun, so also did Noah refrain from cursing his eldest son. Instead, Cursed be Canaan, Noah pronounced. A similar metaphoric son-mother tryst is referenced in the Egyptian Book of the Dead where Heru says: I am the bull of my mother. Oguns repentance recurs in the Supreme Commander, Dwight Eisenhower, rebuking the military industrial complex at the end of his presidency and General Colin Powell being the only member of the Bush cabinet who cautioned against war. A true warrior ultimately tires of the ravages of war and turns to peace. That is Ogun repenting. Elegbara (Eshu) represents the left brain, verbal communicative faculty. He is the same as Mercury (Roman), Rafael (Hebrew), Hermes (Greek), Hanuman (Hindu Kush), and Sebek/Anubis (Egyptian). Logic is supposed to protect mans receptive state. In other words, if a TV ad puts me into a trance and tells me I can have a bevy of women, just like Billy Dee, if I drink Colt.45, my logical faculty (Elegba) is supposed to speak some sense to my entranced (hypnotized) mind and say thats just a commercial, Amir. Your dumb behind aint gonna pull them chicks by drinking some nasty beer. In fact, logically speaking, the beer will make you fat and youll be less likely to pull chicks like those. But Ogun shut poor Elegbara out. When the drums of war get beaten loud enough, logic like Elvis, leaves the building, i.e., Ogun became Elegguas slave. So he became too weak to protect Yemmu (trance receptivity). Allahu Akbar. Now, the great Yoruba scholars are quick to point out that the God Eshu is not the same as Oshun. But I beg to differ. The wonderful African minds love to pun and use words that are suggestive of other words. Oshun represents the image-making and picture communication faculty of the right brain. Ogun represents the same. Through its Venusian functions, the rooster was supposed to see the full picture, i.e., an event coming full circle. But a downside of the Venusian function is its tendency to overconsume, party too hard and wax fat and get lazy. In the

Egyptian tradition, this was depicted as the goddess Het-Heru (Hathor) getting drunk and falling asleep. The same Venusian instinct toward passion and love can quickly revert to its opposite polarity, violence and war. This is seen, sadly, in the thousands of ex-lovers who now hate one anothers guts. So, when hes not fat and overfed, Osun was a good guardian for Yemmu. Properly developed, Osun not only sees the tobacco ad, he also sees the cancerous lung that derives from tobacco smoking. That guards and protects Yemmu (alpha wave brain state). Artists (ruled by Osun) become servants of tricky businessmen (ruled by Elegba). Incidentally, the Muslims sing praises to Elegbara millions of times per day, but since He is a trickster, they dont even know it. Anyone who knows etymology knows that gs and ks change one to the other in language after language. Also, there is no Hebrew or Arabic letter E. The word El is actually Al. So dig this: Elegbara Alegbara Alagbara Alakbara Al-Akbara Al-Akbar Allahu Akbar Every time a Muslim shouts Allah-Akbar he is actually proclaiming the divinity of the Eshu. Obatala prophesied that Elegbara would be propitiated first, and indeed he is, five times a day, several times per prayer, by a billion Muslims. What a crafty character our great divine Eshu is! Obatala represents the indwelling divinity, the supreme intelligence, thats asleep in every man and woman. It takes initiation in the traditional African Religious systems to awaken the Supreme Being, to resurrect Him, so that He can be the only true and proper mate for our personal souls, our Yemmu.
