I. Introduction (Rogerian Step One) - General Introduction (how would you introduce this topic in an actual paper?

) SKIP - Basic Context (give explanation as issue, basic definition or simple history) The Power of the Technology, technology is something that is present world wide and in use every second. - Perspectives (give opposition perspective, then give your own; label each and be certain to give full position) Technology controls us as humans and all our actions. - Thesis Statement (detailed and clearly focused, presenting your position, and phrase it is a claim) I believe that technology is one of the most powerful things in the world and it controls us more than we can see. We are so engulfed in it that as people we overlook its control on us whether it be mentally, emotionally, physically, or verbally.

II. Opposition Perspective (Rogerian Step Two) - Restate Opposing Perspective The opposing perspective towards this argument is that the technology has no correlation with power. Many may view technology as a means of entertainment rather than a means of control or influence. Technology is not a need but a want that provides entertainment for our society and power could obviously be obtained without it. - Details (including history, what they believe and why) There is not a ton of history behind the why people do not believe the theory. I feel that people cannot fathom the thought of such an organization existing. - Accepted Context (under what conditions would this perspective be correct or considered acceptable) There is no real way to who is right and who is wrong in this argument, unless the secret organization says if they are real.

III. Writer's Perspective (Rogerian Step Three) - Restate Writer's Perspective and Position My perspective is that technology has a direct correlation with power. Think about how we are shaped by the media, magazines, and people who all use Televisions, radios, and other forms of propaganda to influence mindsets. Developments such as computers can now predict what we are most likely to buy based on Internet forums we frequent. The world has been segmented and controlled by desires influenced by technology. There is no escaping it, and it will continually get increasingly so. - Re-emphasize Claim Technology is directly correlated with power. In order to control the masses of people than you need to utilize technology. The most powerful individuals in the world use technology to expand

their influence. - Details (including history, what you believe and why) The reason why I have taken this viewpoint as my claim is because I myself know the power technology has had on me and how my thinking has been influenced. I am subconsciously and consciously manipulated by ads telling me how to dress, and what to buy. The thing is I actually listen to them to a certain extent. That is why my opinion is what it is. - Accepted Context (under what conditions would this view be best received or most accepted) With this theory many people would accept it because they can definitely relate. I think a presentation telling people what is actually being communicated to them would go over well because it would express that ideal. - Refutation of Opposition (what could you state to refute the opposition's perspective?) Articles of experimentations done by researchers on the effects of propaganda and behavior/ thought processes.

IV. Common Ground (Rogerian Step Four & Proposal) - Proposed Solution/Resolution as Common Ground (careful with phrasing, please) Whether or not someone thinks technology begets power we should be mindful that media expressed through technology has an impact on us psychologically. - Context (what needs to happen for this occur; why does your common ground work, and even how is it common ground?) My common ground works because it is true and scientifically proven. There is research that proves my conclusion is accurate. - Implementation (how will it be carried out) Via scientific experiment done with researchers and a test population. This can be carried out - Resources (what will be needed) An open mind.

V. Alternatives (Are there other viable options as to resolution, beyond the common ground perspective or solution you gave in IV above, and if so, what are they?)

VI. Concluding Statements - Predictions I predict that the relationship between power and technology is growing exponentially and soon

one will not be able to survive without the other. - Other Concerns (possibly to wrap up loose ends or ideas) or Rhetorical Questions Technology is only given to people who are powerful thus creating a world of dictators to govern the universe. A world of chaos.
