Project Title: REMINISCENCE PROJECT Title of Volunteer Role: Project Designer Projects Purpose & Organisations Mission: Part of our goal in supporting public engagement and lifelong learning is to identify, develop and deliver programs that target a broad range of ages and abilities. We get a number of seniors groups visiting, very occasionally from aged care facilities . We do not currently offer any targeted programming for this audience, particularly for the large and growing community of Victorians suffering from some form of dementia. Reminiscence therapy is an engagement activity that assists in evoking emotional responses and promotes communication. Our facility is already equipped with spaces designed to provoke memories and conversations between visitors. This project will support this community, activate engagement and interaction with these existing spaces, and provide a new dimension to our education programs. Required Qualifications/Experience: Training or experience with senior clients either in a paid or voluntary capacity Training or experience in working with people with some form of dementia either in a paid or voluntary capacity Training or experience in developing engaging programs for specific audiences Basic computer skills Estimated Time Commitment: 4 hours / week, estimated project to run May September 2013 although hours are flexible to meet volunteers needs. Position description: Assist with development of a reminiscence program for use by seniors / disability groups for off or onsite use with the aim to evoke emotional responses in participating visitors. This will include: Evaluation and development of a gallery space Development of supporting resources. Volunteers will work closely with the Education & Public Programs Officer who will provide support and guidance. You will be based between an office environment and galleries, with occasional access to a computer terminal. Volunteers are not required to provide their own software, hardware, or other equipment. Outcomes of Project: Develop key themes for target audience Identify types of objects, photographs or other media that would support this concept Develop story/thread to link objects Assist with locating desired objects and organizing into program Benefits: At NWM volunteers are considered honourary staff members with access to staff tearoom facilities. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in any training or outings such as visits to other cultural institutions in the region. Free entry to the Museum and a staff discount in the Museum Shop. At successful completion, you will receive a letter of reference and supervising staff are willing to act as a referee if required.
