Abstract

The intent of this paper is to propose 2 projects that will be completed 1 while reading the book and 1 after completing the book. The book I am reading is iPad and iPhone App Development. I chose this book because my future job aspiration is to become a computer programmer. Also in another ALA class, Leadership, we are required to pick a project that will be completed Junior and Senior year. I want to create an app for this leadership project to include my future aspiration of becoming a programmer. While reading this book, I will recreate each step of the app making process in an app that will allow me to recreate a demand and visually see the results. These results will be documented in a PowerPoint presentation and at least seventy pages will be read a week to ensure that progress was made each week through the duration of the project. After reading the book, I will write a paper describing what I learned about app development and computer programming and will expand on how it will help me with my leadership project.

The Academic Leadership Academy (ALA) at Chapin High School aims to allow its students to explore studies that interest them and improving their impact score for college. Colleges now look to see things a student has done to go beyond academic abilities, the impact score. The English section of the ALA is trying to allow students to explore hobbies and careers that interest them. Students are to propose a book to read and develop two projects which will allow the students to explore a field of occupation or a hobby. One project is to be completed in the process of reading the book and one is to be completed after the completion of the book. Along with this English project I am developing a project for ALA Leadership, in which I am developing an app. The project in English is designed to help produce ideas for the Leadership project. Personally I am extremely interested in Programming, and want to learn more about creating apps to create an app for my research project. The book I will be reading is iPad and iPhone App Development.
Current Situation

To enable myself to successfully complete the app making process for leadership I must first learn the components for creating an app. At this point in the process I am uninformed in this area of study due to lack of experience and knowledge. If I do not familiarize myself in this area I will not be able to complete the app or the project at hand.
Project Plan

While reading iPad and iPhone App Development to enhance my knowledge on the app development process, I will prove that I transferred knowledge that the book provides to computer language. Each step of the process will be transferred to an app, Objective C, which allows demands to be written and results seen. As I read the book I will demonstrate the steps of creating an app in Objective C. Each week seventy or more pages will be read in the book to allow for several steps to be learned and demonstrated. into a PowerPoint presentation with evidence that the steps were tested and completed. The midpoint reading assignment, the first two entries into the process log, will be due on Monday, March 4, 2013. The final process log, with all four entries, will be due on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Both the midpoint and final assignment will be sent to you through email. After reading the book, I will write an essay explaining what I have learned about programming and the app making process, but also how this in-depth read will help in the process of creating an app for my Leadership project. This essay will be turned into you by email before class on Thursday, March 14, 2013. Project Budget To complete this assignment I will need to acquire a book and an app to allow the completion of the project to be completed while reading. The book I am reading, iPad and iPhone App Development was free, but the app I am getting for programming, Objective C, is $2.99. The total cost for this project will be $2.99 due to the fact that the only product needed that costs money is the app, Objective C. I will provide money to fund this project from my personal iTunes account. I received an iTunes gift card for Christmas and have left over money to purchase any products needed in the completion of this project.
Conclusion The goal of this assignment is to allow each student to explore a hobby or occupation that interests them through reading a book. To enhance their writing knowledge and ability each student must propose two assignments one to be completed throughout the duration of the book and one to be completed after. Although a book must be purchased to be read, the book I chose to read was free in the iBooks store so my projects will not cost anything. As stated earlier, this project is designed to enhance the students knowledge in a field that interests them. The benefit of this project for me will be the greater knowledge of how to create apps which will in turn allow me to successfully complete my Leadership project to boost my impact score for college. For you as in the teach the deliverable will describe how this book enhanced my knowledge not only on the subject of app development, but in

writing project proposals and developing projects without the teachers help. Although my knowledge in the field of computer programming is minimal now, in the future I plan to become a computer programmer and want to be a big name. This project will help develop and fulfill my Leadership research project in the near future, and enhance my knowledge about computer programming for after college.
