BAHRIA UNIVERSITY SPRING 2013 RESEARCH ESSAY WRITING GUIDELINES

General 1. Research the allocated topic thoroughly using valid, reliable online sources as well as those in the university library, and produce a 3,000-word essay. It must be your own work, and not that of some other author. You should have at least 8-10 articles/write ups about your topic, and listed as such in your references. 2. Formatting will follow the APA (American Psychological Association) style. 3. These instructions are to be read in conjunction with guidelines contained in the Supplementary Course Outline. In case of any conflict, instructions in this notification will prevail. General Guidelines Your essay should be typed, 1.5-spaced on standard-sized A4 paper (8.5" x 11") with standard MS Word margins on all sides. You should use either Times New Roman or Arial fonts of size 12 pt. Include a page header (also known as the "running head") at the top of every page. To create a page header/running head, insert "TITLE OF YOUR PAPER" in the header duly centered using all capital letters. In the page footer, insert page # as Page 1 of 10 flushed to the right, and authors identification flushed to the left.

Major Paper Sections

Your essay should include four major sections: the Title Page, Abstract, Main Body, and References. Title Page The title page should contain the title of the paper, the author's identification, the institution, teachers name, and date of submission. No page header of footer (described above) on the title page. Abstract Begin a new page. Your abstract page should already include the page header and footer (described above). On the first line of the abstract page, center the word Abstract (no bold, formatting, italics, underlining, or quotation marks). Beginning with the next line, write a concise summary of the key points of your research. Do not indent. Your abstract should contain at least your research topic, research questions, participants, methods, results, data analysis, and conclusions. You may also include possible implications of your research and future work you see connected with Prof Col (R) Manzoor Iqbal Awan Page 1

You may also want to list keywords from your paper in your abstract. To do this, indent as you would if you were starting a new paragraph, type Keywords: (italicized), and then list your keywords. Listing your keywords will help researchers find your work in databases. Main Body Provide an introduction to your topic which includes why this is an important topic, i.e. statistics, application to work, etc. Next, define any terms that you use in the essay. The bulk of this paper will be the review of literature from your selected articles/other sources. Organize your paper according to topics and use headings (APA format) to complete this section. Conclude your paper by summarizing your findings. References Follow the APA referencing style; easily accessible online. Submission To be submitted through email at profmanzoorawan@yahoo.com by Friday of the 14th study week; no hard copy is needed. Topics Being issued separately.
