2 Drawer Box

Genera l Instructions:
You are authorized to use this pattern and to sell the box but the pattern is for personal use only and should not be sold without my permission. The pattern is size so you will have to print it out on 8 x 14 paper for it to come out properly. There are 4 layers to this box. A bottom layer ( stock ), a drawer bottom and spacer layer ( stock), a drawer and box side layer ( stock ), and the top layer ( stock ).

Stack the drawer side layer and the drawer spacer layer and tape them firmly together. Apply the drawer pattern on to the inch stock. Cut out the drawers and the space for the drawer to rotate in. IMPORTANT: Do not at this time cut out the center section of the drawers . Take the section that is not the drawers and the drawer bottoms and glue them together taking care to get a good consistent glue joint between the two, clamp and set aside. Separate the drawer and the bottom pieces, keep them together. Cut out the center section of the in stock. This is going to be the drawer sides. Sand the inside of the drawer sides and then glue the drawer bottom onto the drawer sides and put them aside to dry. Retrieve the center section that the drawers will be in and sand the inside curve. Glue the bottom on to the center section. Do not glue the top on at this time. Clamp and set aside for that section to dry. Once the glue has dried you are now ready to drill the hinge pin holes.

Position the drawers so that the drawer is spaced evenly within the arc and flush to the front and clamp in place. Take an awl and make a depression so your drill bit does not wander at the point where you are going to drill for the hinge pin. Using a drill press drill a inch hole all the way through the drawer and the bottom layer. Unclamp and clean up the edges of the holes. The drawer will have to be sanded a bit as it will be too thick to slide in and out properly when the finish is applied. Sand the drawer to 220 grit. Apply the finish to the drawer at this time. Sand the box interior arc area ( where the drawers are going to go ) to 220 grit. Apply finish to the interior arc area as you will not be able to do so easily after the drawers and the top are installed. Measure and cut 2 lengths of the inch dowel to 1 3/8 inches. From the bottom insert and glue the dowels in the pin holes. Clean any excess glue from the dowel and the area where the drawer will be. Let dry. Sand the pins lightly, the drawers when installed on to the pins need to rotate freely. Once the drawers rotate freely place the top on the rest of the box and clamp. Operate the drawers to see if they open smoothly .. if not sand them a bit more. Apply any flocking to the inside of the drawers if you want to use it at this time. Install the drawers on to the pins and glue to top on. Do not get glue on the drawers as the will be a pain to get free if you accidently do. Clamp and let dry. Sand the front of the box flat and even. Decide what you want the drawer pulls to look like . I used a circle and cut it in half and then glued them to the front of the drawers. Touch up any areas that need it and apply a top coat to the outside areas of the box. You can get those glue backed felt feet to put on the bottom to hide the pins and to make it rest softer.

As far as I know this instruction is complete. However it may contain errors so get a good idea what you are wanting to make before making it.
