ProgressNow Nevada ProgressNow Nevada Action Executive Director Job Opening May 21, 2013 The Position:

The Executive Director will be the chief strategist and fundraiser for the organization; leading all necessary decision making; working in partnership with the Boards of Directors on substance as well as fundraising, and overseeing the great work of the staff team.

Organizational Background:
ProgressNow Nevada (PNN) is a dynamic progressive organization that is a proven leader in rapid response communication and creative use of new media to effect change in Nevada. The organization is a 501 c3 with a related 501c4 organization called ProgressNow Nevada Action (PNNA). The director leads both. PNN is an affiliate of the 21-state ProgressNow network, with all governance, funding and program work conducted at the state level. PNN is committed to building an innovative and integrated coalition in Nevada that advances progressive values and workable public policy solutions to create opportunities for future generations. Currently, ProgressNow Nevada advances the work through key coalitions, the Silver State Voices Table and the America Votes Table (c4). The Executive Director is responsible for maintaining the four core goals common to ProgressNow affiliates. 1. Build a stronger progressive movement in Nevada. PNN uses innovative, Internetbased organizing and communication tactics to expand public support for progressive causes, organizations and leadership. 2. Win advances in progressive public policy. Working closely with other progressive organizations and the netroots community, PNN offers concerned citizens effective, easy and fun ways to make their voices heard on critical policy decisions that impact our quality of life. 3. Generate hard hitting traditional and new media coverage. PNN generates news coverage that shines the public spotlight on progressive solutions to real problems. We work with our extensive network of members and advisers to

maintain a 24-7 rapid response media operation that pulls no punches when taking on the radical right. 4. Increase civic participation and educate the public. PNN activates our members and ensures that the progressive voice is heard on issues that matter to Nevadans. We watchdog the actions of Nevada elected leaders and hold accountable those officials who are in the pocket of special interests.

Essential Functions:
Provide vision, direction and funding for PNN Direct all aspects of the organization including management of staff, policy, research, message development, media relations, communications, supporting and enabling existing and future progressive infrastructure around Nevada, fundraising and board development. Serve as the organizations primary public spokesperson, a progressive spokesperson of last resort, and delegate responsibilities to staff when appropriate. Oversee the organizations financial systems and daily finances to ensure compliance and soundness. Facilitate development of the organizations annual budget, taxes and audit. Report regularly to the leadership and the members of the organizations Boards of Directors. Develop, oversee, and implement a statewide communications strategy Identify and frame issues with input from staff and allied organizations Use research based messaging and data to develop the campaign strategies Utilize earned and social media, web based innovative technologies and other creative media outlets Enhance the progressive infrastructure in Nevada Direct the interpretation of information so that the organization may serve as a clearinghouse and watchdog. Provide resources, research, media/communications expertise and support to existing and future progressive organizations, building relationships and coalitions with them.

Qualifications
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in labor, political, media, community organizing or campaign communications; Required Experience with print, television, radio and online media outlets; Required Excellent oral and written communications skills; Required Excellent organizational and time-management skills; Required Ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively; Preferred

Successful experience building and working effectively with a Board of Directors; preferred Public speaking and earned media skills; preferred Demonstrated commitment to the organizations mission and values; preferred Experience in legislative advocacy and political campaigns; preferred Experience building long-term financial reserves within an organization; desired Understanding of 501c3, 501c4, and PAC structures and compliance issues; desired
