You are on page 1of 2

Are you a good person?

Of course Im a good person! Lets see Have you kept Gods law? Pretty much Can we take a look at it? Sure. One of The Ten Commandments says, You shall not covet Have you ever coveted? Uh Yeah. Gods word says, the LORD abhors the covetous. Yikes! Have you ever told a lie?

Well get to that later. Do you still think youre a good person?

Guilty but I received Jesus into my heart. Doesnt that take care of everything?

Compared to everyone else I am Other people are not the standard. The only authority is Gods word. He said that His word will judge us in the last day.

I see Have you ever committed Adultery? Jesus said that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. But who hasnt done that? Have you ever hated? Yes, a few times.

Yeah, who hasnt?

The Bible says, He that hates his brother is a murderer

Revelation 21:8 says, all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Then who on earth could go to heaven?

Are you saying that Im a covetous, lying adulterer, and murderer at heart?

You said it! And we have just looked at four sins. Now when God, as a righteous judge, will judge you, will you be innocent of guilty?

Yes, but did you really receive Him? Just because you prayed to receive Jesus into your heart is no guarantee that you actually received Him. Here are some tests of true salvation: Receiving Jesus is believing on Him (John. 1:12) which also means adhering to Him. Like He said, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Ask yourself, Is that what I am doing? Is Jesus the lord of my life, the absolute boss? Are all my desires secondary to His will? Do I love Him with all my heart, soul, mind and strength (the greatest commandment Mark 12.30)? If we do, people will see it because we will be living our lives for Him. Also well want to hear His voice more than the voice of our best friend. Therefore we will be reading His word (the Bible) daily. We cant pretend to love God and not want to read His word, any more than we could pretend to be in love with someone and not read the love letters they write us. Also we will have a greater love for Christians than we do for nonchristians. Why? Because were really part of their family, Gods family. st Finally, Christians are righteous. In 1 John 3:10 it says: In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever does not (practice) righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his brother. Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? (1Corinthians 6:9)

But if I repent, wont God forgive me?

So is everyone forgiven, or is there something we have to do?

IF you repent, He will. Repenting is NOT just asking forgiveness. Repenting is also forsaking your sin.

OK, Ill forsake my sin. I know I can change if I really try!

But wait! Repentance alone wont take care of all the sins youve done and will continue to do. If God were to forgive you just because you said, Sorry, Ill really try not to sin anymore, He would be an unjust judge.

No, everyone is not forgiven because there is something we have to do. We have to repent of our sins and put all our faith in Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead to justify and to forgive all those that believe in Him as their Lord and Savior. To Jesus give all the prophets witness, that everyone who believes in him, shall receive forgiveness of sins through his name. That is why John 3:36 says: He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

OK so if God is just, and sin must be punished, who could possibly be forgiven?!

So what exactly do I say to God?

If it were up to us, there would be no way, but God loved us so much that He wanted to be able to forgive us at all costs! So God sent His Son Jesus Christ to take on a human body. Jesus lived a perfect life fulfilling all of Gods holy Law. He was tempted in all areas we are, but without sin. The miracles he did: healing all kinds of sickness, raising the dead, etc. proved He was the Son of God. He died for our sins, shedding His own precious blood, which is the only thing that God has ever said can cleanse sin (see Lev. 17:11 & Isa. 53). So if Jesus blood washes your sins away, there is no sin left to punish. Then God can righteously forgive you.

Its not about what you say. Its all about your heart. No. 1, your will must be fully surrendered to God, ready to deny yourself and live for Jesus. No. 2, you must see yourself as a sinner (powerless to save yourself) No. 3, You must desperately want to be delivered from your sins. Seek a quiet place and think of all the thousands of times you have sinned against God. Allow that to show you just how guilty you are. Then look at the love of God as seen in the cross where Christ died for our sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God.

Let this break your heart and humble you before your Maker, as your life, for all eternity, is at stake. Recognize your sinfulness in the presence of a Holy God. Turn your back on all that you know is not pleasing to God and forsake it. Then Put all your faith, your confidence, in the risen Lord Jesus, who alone can save you, forgive you, and make you a child of God. Remember, neither religion nor any amount of good works you do (attending Church, tithing, etc.) could ever cleanse even one sin. Its only the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world. God has promised, He that believes on the Son has everlasting life. Can you put all your faith in Him? In a simple prayer to God, beg Jesus to forgive your sins, to save you from your sins, and be the lord of your life. Jesus said, Whoever comes to me, I will never cast out. What will you do? Heaven and hell are before you. Be wise! If Jesus truly forgave your sins when you prayed, your life will change! You should pass the tests of true salvation on page 1.
