CONSULTANTS

CONSULTANT GUIDELINES
1. To properly view MHTN’s drawings you must have the necessary Autodesk Object Enabler for Architectural
Desktop 2006. Object Enablers can be obtained from the AutoDesk website. MHTN is happy to install any
Object Enablers that might be necessary on our end.
2. Computer drawings must be saved in an AutoCAD version 2004 format.
3. A copy of your company’s Plot Style (.ctb or .stb) should be sent to the Project Architect along with your first
drawing transfer to allow the proper printing of your drawings. MHTN’s plot style is available upon request.
4. If .plt files are requested, a test file must be received three days prior to plot date. This ensures the quality of the
.plt’s being generated before the plot deadline. MHTN recommends the HP DesignJet 755CM driver for
generating .plt files.
5. MHTN will provide a drawing title block in .dwg format. Your company logo can be placed in the space directly
below the MHTN logo. Please do not explode the title block.
6. All plan sheets must share the same configuration. MHTN will provide a base drawings showing the 0,0
insertion point for plan drawings. It is extremely important that this common insertion point be used by all
Consultants.
7. Sheet File Naming in accordance with the attached guidelines must be followed. The Project Architect will
inform you which sheet naming guide will be followed. The Sheet Name in the title block must match the file
name.
8. MHTN uses Paper Space and External References. Some familiarity with these tools is essential.
9. MHTN uses the AIA layering system. It would be helpful if the same standard was used. See the layering
section for more information. If the AIA layering is not used MHTN needs a list of layer names and the use for
each.
10. A standard for Model File Naming (source drawings) is encouraged, but not required. MHTN uses the NCS for
file naming. See attached document for more information.
11. Reference drawings should be easily changed to one color. Changing the layers assigned color is the preferred
method.
12. All drawings must use the Arial or Arial Narrow font. These fonts were chosen because they are generic and
meet the NCS requirements.
13. MHTN’s plan drawing are provided to the Consultants to use as background for their work. There is no need to
modify the provided drawings to use them, simply xref the drawing, turn off the un-needed layers and change
the remaining layers color to the color needed (i.e. shaded background) to meet the requirements of your
system.
14. As projects proceed, AutoCAD drawing files may be requested by the Project Architect from the Consultants to
allow coordination between disciplines. The drawings required for coordination are only your work, not the
Architectural backgrounds that you have been using. The transfer method (email, FTP site or CD/DVD) does
not need to contain any directory structure, the drawings will be inserted into MHTN’s Consultant directories that
we will reference.
15. The importance of placing elements of the drawing on the appropriate layer can’t be stressed enough. Turning
layers on and off and transferring elements between drawings require that careful attention be paid to layer
names as drawing are created.
