NICOLE SCHMLZER EXHIBITION Simon Gallery is pleased to present the fourth solo exhibition of Swiss painter Nicole Schmlzer. UGO RONDINONE PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION For seven weeks this spring, nine 16-to 20foot-tall, human-shaped stone figures by Swiss-born, New York-based artist Ugo Rondinone, will transform Rockefeller Center, inhabiting the plaza between 49th and 50th Streets as if transported from another time. DIETER ROTH EXHIBITION The exhibition Wait, Later This Will Be Nothing: Editions by Dieter Roth focuses on Roths incredibly innovative and prolific period from 1960 to 1975. The centerpiece of the exhibition is an expanded presentation of Snow (1963 69), a Roth artists book in MoMAs collection, featuring many more pages of the book than have ever been exhibited. RETO PULFER EXHIBITION The enigmatic body of work by Swiss artist Reto Pulfer (b. 1981, lives in Berlin) might be said to occur at the intersection of architecture and performance. In his first solo-exhibition in the United States entitled Zustandseffekte, Pulfer suspends large swathes of hand-painted cloth from the ceiling structure, countering the architecture of Swiss Institutes main gallery while exploring an ethereal environment. DO IT (OUTSIDE) EXHIBITION In collaboration with Independent Curators International (ICI), Socrates Sculpture Park presents do it (outside), an exhibition conceived of and curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist. In the last 20 years, versions of do it have been presented in over 50 venues worldwide, giving new meaning to the concept of the Exhibition in Progress. Do it (outside) at Socrates Sculpture Park will be the first presentation of the exhibition in New York City and the first to be presented completely outdoors in a public art venue. JOEL TETTAMANTI EXHIBITION Jol Tettamanti's photographs are a vast archive of the structures, villages and cities that people create and inhabit, and the landforms and climates that shape their culture. Although his photographs are often devoid of people, the focus of his work is the human presence in the landscape and the people who are uplifted and sometimes defeated by the land they inhabit. This contradiction of human frailty and resilience, and the continuities people form with the land, are embedded in Tettamanti's photographic vision. A DIFFERENT KIND OF ORDER ICP TRIENNIAL Every three years, ICP's curators round up some of the most interesting contemporary photography and video works from around the world. The 2013 Triennial, A Different Kind of Order, focuses on artworks created in our current moment of widespread economic, social, and political instability. MEANWHILE IN SWITZERLAND
AARGAU RHYTHM IN IT MAY 18 AUGUST 11, 2013 Rhythm in it. On rhythm in contemporary art is the title of a new, international group show presented by the Aargauer Kunsthaus. Including work by 37 artists, the exhibition provides stimulating and surprising insights into a subject that is central not just to music but to the visual arts as well. The exhibition looks back at early 20th century examples that examine formal rhythms as an essential aspect of Modernism, whose lasting topicality becomes particularly evident in a dialogue with contemporary artistic approaches.
