THE HARE AND THE TORTOISE

Once there was a speedy Hare, who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast, the Tortoise challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch the race. The Hare ran down the road for a while and then paused to rest. He looked back at the tortoise and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when you are walking along at your slow, slow pace?" The Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking, "There is plenty of time to relax." The Tortoise walked and walked; never ever stopping until he came to the finish line. The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for Tortoise, that they woke up the Hare. The Hare stretched and yawned and began to run again, but it was too late. Tortoise was already over the line. MORAL : SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE.

THE THIRSTY CROW

One hot day, a thirsty crow flew all over the fields looking for water. For a long time, it could not find any water. It felt very weak, almost giving up hope. Suddenly, the crow saw a water jug near a tree. It flew straight down to see if there was any water inside. It could see some water inside the jug. The crow tried to push its head into the jug. Sadly, it found that the neck of the jug was too narrow. Then it tried to push the jug down for the water to flow out, but the jug was very heavy. The crow thought hard for a while. While looking around, it saw some pebbles. It had an idea and started picking up the pebbles one by one, dropping each into the jug. As more and more pebbles filled the jug, the water level kept rising. Soon, it was high enough for the crow to drink. The crow quenched its thirst and flew away. Once upon a time, there was a selfish man. He liked everything to be his own. He could not share his belongings with anyone, not even his friends or the poor. One day, the man lost thirty gold coins. He went to his friends house and told him how he had lost his gold coins. His friend was a kind man. As his friends daughter was coming from an errand , she found thirty gold coins. When she arrived home, she told her father what she had found. The girls father told her that the gold coins belonged to his friend and he sent for him. When the selfish man arrived, his friend told him how his daughter had found his thirty gold coins and handed them over to him. After counting the gold coins, the man said that ten of them were missing and same had been taken by the girl as he had lost forty gold coins. He further commented that he would recover the remaining amount from him. But the girls father refused. The man left the gold coins, went to the court and informed the judge about what had taken place between him and the girls fath er. The judge sent for the girl and her father. On their arrival, the judge asked the girl how many gold coins she had found. She replied, Thirty gold coins.

Then, the Judge asked the selfish man how many gold coins he had lost. The man answered, Forty gold coins. The judge decided that the gold coins did not belong to the man because the girl had found thirty and not forty, as he had claimed to have lost. He told the girl to keep the gold coins and that if anybody came looking for them he would send for the girl. The judge told the man if anybody reported that he had found forty gold coins, he would send for him. It was then that the man confessed that he had lied and lost only thirty gold coins. But the judge did not listen to him. MORAL : ALWAYS BE HONEST AND TRUTHFUL.
