INTRODUCTION A lathe is a machine tool which rotates the work piece on its axis to perform various operations such

as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, or deformation with tools that are applied to the work piece to create an object which has symmetry about an axis of rotation. Lathes are used in woodturning, metalworking, metal spinning, and glass working. Lathes can be used to shape pottery, the best-known design being the potter's wheel. Most suitably equipped metalworking lathes can also be used to produce most solids of revolution, plane surfaces and screw threads or helices. Ornamental lathes can produce three-dimensional solids of incredible complexity. The material can be held in place by either one or two at least one of which can be moved horizontally to accommodate varying material lengths. Other work holding methods include clamping the work about the axis of rotation using a chuck or collet, or to a faceplate, using clamps or dogs. Examples of objects that can be produced on a lathe include candlestick holders, cue sticks, table legs, bowls, baseball bats, musical instruments (especially woodwind instruments), crankshafts and camshafts.

OBJECTIVE Objective: at the end of the lesson, student will able to: 1. Operate the lathe machine for: Threading Parallel turning Facing and make a finishing on surface Taper turning Centre drilling Sharpen the cutting tool Hexagon turning

2. Measure work piece by using : vernier calliper Steel rule

EQUIPMENTS Tool bit Spanner Lathe machine tools

PROCEDURE

1. Firstly , cut work piece using electrical saw to cylindrical metal. 2. Measurement the work piece bigger then actual length of the product. 3. Sharpen the cutting tool using grinding machine 4. Setup the lathe machine. 5. Put the cutting tool on the cutting holder. 6. Start project with parallel cutting method on work piece. 7. Firstly do the tapping turning. 8. Then change the type of the cutting tool. 9. Then setup the machine to make the threadon the work piece. 10. Handle the machine with slowly and continous movement to get perfect thread. 11. The last step is to make the small cylinder shape.

SAFETY RULES

1. Always listen carefully to the teacher and follow instructions. 2. Do not run in the workshop, you could bump into another pupil and cause an accident. 3. Know where the emergency stop buttons are positioned in the workshop. If you see an accident at the other side of the workshop you can use the emergency stop button to turn off all electrical power to machines. Place. 5. Wear good strong shoes. Training shoes are not suitable. 6. When attempting practical work all stools should be put away. 7. Bags should not be brought into a workshop as people can trip over them. 4. Always wear an apron as it will protect your clothes and hold loses clothing such as ties in 8. When learning how to use a machine, listen very carefully to all the instructions given by the teacher. Ask questions, especially if you do not fully understand. 9. Do not use a machine if you have not been shown how to operate it safely by the teacher. 10. Always be patient, never rush in the workshop. 11. Always use a guard when working on a machine. 12. Keep hands away from moving/rotating machinery. 13. Use hand tools carefully, keeping both hands behind the cutting edge. 14. Report any damage to machines/equipment as this could cause an accident.

CONCLUSION All lathe work is giving knowledge for student about function lathe machine. The function is: How use lathe machine Know part of lathe machine Know it safety before use Know it about rules in workshop

Sometime many lahte machine cannot be use clearly .this is because we must has skilful for handle this machine .The skill full can increase knowledge about lathe machine. And I would thanks to my lecture because teach me to handle this machine and how to use it. And thanks to my partner because give cooperation to handle this machine..
