11. Describe the circumstances in which you would choose to use embedded SQL rather than SQL alone or only a general-purpose programming language. 12. Consider the following schema: Suppliers(sid: integer, sname: string, address: string) Parts(pid: integer, pname: string, color: string) Catalog(sid: integer, pid: integer, cost: real) The key fields are underlined, and the domain of each field is listed after the field name. Thus sid is the key for Suppliers, pid is the key for Parts, and sid and pid together form the key for Catalog. The Catalog relation lists the prices charged for parts by Suppliers. Write the following queries in relational algebra. a. Find the names of suppliers who supply some red part. b. Find the sids of suppliers who supply some red or green part. c. Find the sids of suppliers who supply some red part or are at 221 Packer Ave. 13. What is an unsafe query? Give an example and explain why it is important to disallow such queries.

14. How do you differentiate a relational algebra and relational calculus? 15. What types of anomalies are found in relational database? 16. Give a set of FDs for the relation schema R(A, B, C, D) with primary key AB under which R is in 1NF but not in 2NF. 17. When is it useful to have replication or fragmentation of data? Explain. 18. Explain the differences between data replication in a distributed system and the maintenance of a remote backup site. 19. What is the meaning of multimedia data? 20.
