This document explains new features, fixes and improvements in Tekla Structures 18.0 Service
Release 2. We recommend this service release for all Tekla Structures 18.0 users.
General
Tekla Structures configurations
BVBS export is now enabled in the Cast in Place configuration.
Shop welds and site welds can now be created in all configurations. Earlier it was possible to
create only site welds in the Engineering configuration. This meant that assemblies were not
created and it was not possible to define the required weld information.
It is now possible to create detailed reinforcements in all configurations. Conceptual
reinforcements are not created anymore.
Some precast connections are now generic concrete connections and they can be applied to
cast-in-place cast units.
Steel and precast objects made using conceptual components cannot be numbered. This means
that steel assemblies or precast cast units that contain conceptual components cannot be
numbered and drawings are not created. Cast-in-place cast units can be numbered even if they
contain conceptual components.
Reinforcements are not numbered in the Steel Detailing configuration.
Adding printers
Now it is again possible to add more than one printer in the Printer Catalog.
TT76822
Using several plugins
Having the Floor Tool dialog box open while opening another plugin from the Component
catalog caused Tekla Structures to hang up. This has now been fixed.
TT77277
Korean characters in file names
Korean characters are now supported in file names when you define "set
XS_STD_LOCALE=korean_korea.949" in the TeklaStructures.ini file.
TT78251
Modeling
Saving attributes
Trying to save attributes with invalid characters \ / : * ? " < > in the attribute file name
caused Tekla Structures to stop working. This has now been fixed. Tekla Structures now displays
a warning message for such file names.
TT78205
Multi-user mode
Object history is now collected correctly in the multi-user mode.
TT78026
Reinforcement
Strand patterns
The Strand pattern modeling tool now works properly with both metric and imperial units. You
can also define company-specific strand material that is not available by default, for example,
grade and size combinations. To do this, modify the content of the StrandPattern.ini file
and store the file under the model folder or any of the system folders, for example XS_FIRM.
TT74867
Reinforcing bar bending radius
Previously, when reinforcing bar bending shapes were created using the Rebar Shape Manager,
the bending radius (DIM_R, DIM_TD, hook radius) was rounded in all reports and schedules. This
has now been fixed.
TT76815
Custom components
Allowing multiple connections between parts
You can now change the Allow multiple instances of connection between same parts option
for existing custom components in a model.
TT77246
Drawings
Selecting drawing views
You can now select a view by clicking the view label. Previously you could select the view only
by clicking the view frame.
TT76870
Aligning section views
If the main part was placed vertically in a view, and there were several section views, Align
section views with main view in Layout Properties did not work correctly, and section views
were placed on top of each other. Now the already placed section views are taken into account
when placing the new ones.
TT73355
View placing
View placing did not work correctly in an assembly drawing when you had selected autoscaling
from the Layout Properties dialog box, and had included single-part views in the drawing. This
has now been fixed.
TT77788
Moving views to another drawing
When you move a view to another drawing, the view no longer remains selected after moving
and the view boundary is no longer highlighted in the main view. Earlier the moved view
remained selected and the view boundary highlighted and you had to reopen the drawing to fix
this.
TT77430
Anchor bolt plan views
Views are now placed correctly in anchor bolt plans after drawing update.
TT77482
View label frames
Frames are again drawn around the view title.
TT77788
Reference model objects
If there is a reference model object that is only partly inside the view boundaries, there is no
more extra empty space in the view frame. Earlier, the view frame did not adjust automatically.
TT77464
Selecting handles
Selecting handles did not work properly. Now the handle selection is working again.
TT77388
Opening drawings
Tekla Structures no longer shows an image of the previously opened drawing when you open
another drawing.
TT77144
Revising drawings
Previously, modifying drawing revision information sometimes caused inconsistent id values.
When diagnosing the model, Tekla Structures displayed an error message showing that the
maximum id value was greater than the current id value. This has now been fixed.
TT78027
Checking dimension point validity
Dimension point invalidity symbols have not been displayed since version 18.0. This
functionality was not needed anymore, because dimension points that do not have valid
association get a ghost associativity symbol and a question mark, which makes it easy to find
dimensions that need attention.
Also, the possibility to check dimension point validity and control the invalidity symbols has
been removed from the Dimensioning menu.
10
The following advanced options are not needed anymore and have been removed:
XS_DO_NOT_CHECK_DIMENSION_POINTS
XS_DO_NOT_PLOT_DIMENSION_POINT_CIRCLES
XS_DIMENSION_POINT_CIRCLE_COLOR
XS_DIMENSION_POINT_CIRCLE_INNER_RADIUS
XS_DIMENSION_POINT_CIRCLE_OUTER_RADIUS
TT69657, TT76898
Master Drawing Catalog in CIP
The Master Drawing Catalog now shows the cast unit drawing templates in the Cast in Place
(CIP) configuration. Earlier they were not available.
TT77708
Marks
Part class included additional information (curved beam information) in templates and part
marks if the part was curved. This has now been fixed.
TT56491
Associativity
Drawing was recreated if the object level settings were changed and Modify was clicked in the
drawing properties dialog box on drawing level, even if the Use detailed object level settings
option was switched off. This has now been fixed.
TT77746
Cloning
Automatic bolt dimension was not cloned properly. A dimension that was associated in x
direction only sometimes had its extension line starting from outside the view boundaries. This
has now been fixed.
TT77521
If a drawing was cloned and you tried to clone the same model part again, and after that
opened the cloned drawing, the drawing views were small. This has now been fixed.
TT77872
Automatic cloning did not work for single-part drawings if assembly position was changed and
the advanced option XS_USE_ASSEMBLY_NUMBER_FOR was set to MAIN_PART or LOOSE_PART.
TT76471
If the original drawing contained more parts than the cloned drawing, the dimensions were
cloned several times. That does not happen anymore. The dimensions are cloned from the source
part that is the most similar with the target part.
TT77531
Grids
11
TT77791
Grid line dimension are shortened on all grid levels (Grid properties > Short extension lines),
not just on 0 plane.
TT75585
Pullout pictures
In some cases pullout pictures were rotated incorrectly. This has now ben fixed.
TT76553
DWG/DXF files
You could not import DWG/DXF files using the Add DWG / DXF File... command if the drawing
path contained Polish characters. This has changed now, and you can add DWG/DXF files even if
their file path contained Polish characters. The Windows locale and Tekla Structures language
must both be set to Polish.
TT76921
Object handles
In certain Undo and Redo cases it was possible that the object handles were drawn also when
the object was no longer selected. This has now been fixed.
TT77361
COG dimensioning tool
Now when you try to use COG dimensioning in multidrawings or general arrangement drawings,
you receive an error message telling that COG dimensioning is not working for these drawing
types.
TT73933
Multidrawings
The container view size was not correct in a multidrawing if the size of the linked assembly
drawing was changed. This has now been fixed.
TT77057
12
New Export type options: Coordination view 1.0, Coordination view 2.0 and Surface
Geometry (the former Simplified view).
Selections for assemblies, bolts, and reinforcing bars were removed.
The Advanced tab now contains the Base quantities and Grid selections.
13
If some of these are not wanted to be included into the IFC model, the user needs to such a
selection of model objects.
TT75700
Xml files in IFC export
An error occurred when exporting the xml file. This has now been fixed.
TT73030
NC files
Sometimes round corner chamfers were not identified correctly and line segments were written
to the dstv file instead of an arc. Now round corners are handled properly and exported as arcs.
TT72850
14
BVBS export
There is a new option Reinforcement of selected cast units (totals by all positions) in the list
of options for Model objects to be exported. When this new option is selected, the
reinforcement of all cast units that have the same cast unit position as any of the selected cast
unit positions will be exported. For example, if a cast unit with cast unit position W-120 is
selected, the reinforcement of all cast units that have position W-120 will be exported even if
not all the cast units were selected.
Note that depending on the file naming either one file (including totals of all units) or separate
files (totals by one unit) for all W-120 positions will be exported.
TT76904
Importing SDNF results
Previously, Tekla Structures stopped working when trying to import SDNF results with long path
names. This has now been fixed.
TT77075
Tekla BIMsight
When publishing to Tekla BIMsight, you can now define whether to include the grid in the
export.
TT74826
Steel connections
Cold rolled overlap (1)
In some cases, when connecting stays to purlins, the number of bolts added was doubled.
Instead of the 2 single bolts added, 4 bolts were added, so that the extra bolts were placed on
top of the 2 single bolts. This has now been fixed.
TT77813
When using 2 bolts to connect stays to purlins, the bolts are now by default positioned on the
gauge lines.
TT68665
Bolted gusset (11), Tube gusset (20)
The bolt distance defined on the Brace bolts 1 tab and the Brace bolts 3 tab now works
correctly for both braces.
15
TT65914
Stiffened end plate (27)
You can now move the end plate and the stiffener welded to the plate. You can also define the
gap between the plate and the inner side of the main beam flange.
TT57279
Haunch (40)
Welds are now positioned correctly.
TT77429
Corner tube gusset (56), Hollow brace wraparound gusset (59)
Tongue plates and cover plates are now placed correctly.
TT77332
Splice connection (77)
In some cases, the main part of the connection was not correct when adding bolts. This has now
been fixed.
TT77155
Steel details
Stiffeners (1003), Multiple stiffeners (1064)
Previously, when you defined contours for welds, an extra line that covered the weld was
created. The line was also shown in drawings. This has now been fixed.
TT72966
16
Bracings created
TT77522
Concrete components
Sandwich and double wall (1)
The assembly main part of the sandwich wall remains correct (inside shell) even if the end shape
of the sandwich wall is changed from straight ending to corner ending.
TT76242

not set.
TT75418
19
Modeling
User-defined attributes for bolts and welds
Previously, the user-defined attributes of bolts and welds had some incorrect default values in
the list box options. This has now been fixed.
TT74949
Loading applied values from user-defined attributes standard file
Loading applied values from user-defined attributes standard (.more ) files did not work
correctly if a dialog box was open. For example, if the column property dialog box was open, the
standard.clm.more file was not applied correctly when model was created or opened.
TT75128
Surface treatment
Adding surface treatment to complex planes has been improved.
TT71132
Snapping
It is now again possible to snap to the distant reference points of a part.
TT74220
Model Organizer
When defining the properties that are shown in the object pane, you can now define that both
reference object properties and report properties are shown under a certain property. Use a
semi-colon to separate the properties.
TT75890
Reinforcement
Reinforcing Bar Shape Catalog
You can now apply the reinforcing bars created with the Reinforcing Bar Shape Catalog into
multiple concrete parts at the same time. Previously, the reinforcing bars could only be applied
inside one concrete part at a time.
See below for an example before the fix: Reinforcing bars are applied to one part at a time.
20
See below for two examples after the fix: Reinforcing bars applied into multiple parts at a time.
21
TT74912
Reinforcement adaptivity
In 18.0 (and newer versions) the adaptivity sometimes failed when you changed the geometry
of complex profiles. This has now been fixed.
TT77070
Drawings
Work plane and updating drawings
In Tekla Structures 18.0 final, if you set the work plane to any other coordinate than the model's
0 coordinate when creating or editing drawings, your drawings would update incorrectly. This
has now been fixed.
TT76527
22
[who]
[access]
[access]
can be none/view/full.
In this example, only the administrator can use the Remove unnecessary drawing files
command:
action:RemoveUnnecessaryDrawingFiles everyone none
action:RemoveUnnecessaryDrawingFiles ORGANIZATION\admin full
TT74707
Panning in drawing mode
Performance improvement in panning in drawing mode caused quite often a checkerboard
effect. Now the checkerboard is visible only when the graphics are too heavy to be fully
rendered on panning.
TT76676
Part marks
Sometimes an application error occurred when part marks were updated. This has now been
fixed.
TT76340
Drawing filters
Drawing filters were not working correctly, as previous filter rules where used even though the
filtering dialog box contained no filter rules. This has now been fixed, and previous filter rules
are not used anymore.
23
TT73733
Recreating drawings
Now selecting No in the drawing recreation confirmation box works correctly, and the selected
drawings are not recreated.
TT74397
Slotted holes
Slotted holes are now shown correctly in the drawings, and the bolt marks contain slot
information. In some older versions, slotted holes were shown as round holes, and bolt marks
did not contain any slot information.
A slotted hole in a model.
TT48909
24
When you dragged the view plane, the view was in some cases drawn in an incorrect place on
the sheet. The view was drawn correctly if you saved and closed the drawing and opened it
again. This has now been fixed.
TT75975
TT74433
25
Multidrawings
Sometimes view placing was incorrect in a multidrawing if the selected drawings were split in
several multidrawings.
TT67165
If you had an assembly drawing in a multidrawing, and you used multinumbering, the assembly
drawing views were placed incorrectly after update. This has now been fixed.
TT76620
Multidrawings with layouts are now placed correctly, and the size of the included drawing is
correct (the same as that of the original drawing).
TT76625
View update in multidrawings has been improved, and views no longer move away from the
container box.
TT76931
The Rebar group dimension plugin dialog box now contains a new option for showing or
hiding the position text.
26
TT74383
Adjusting reinforcing bar location
The Adjust location command did not draw the reinforcing bar in the picked location if the first
or last reinforcing bar in the reinforcing bar group was outside view boundary. This has now
been fixed.
TT74408
The Adjust location command now works correctly also with tapered reinforcing bar groups.
TT67062
Sometimes extra dimension lines were drawn when you had selected the Adjust location
command for a reinforcing bar.
TT74264
TT67680
27
Gross and net areas for bent meshes are now calculated correctly.
TT61962
The IK block information in NC files is now shown correctly. Previously, if round holes were far
away from beam start points the inner contour dimensions were not shown properly.
TT75414
IFC export
IFC properties in Timestamp format are now displayed correctly in the Inquire object dialog
box. Previously, they were shown as 0.00.
TT63905
CIM export
In some cases, there was an application error when you tried to export a manufacturing model.
This has now been fixed.
28
TT75777
HMS export
The nibbed end (NE) of a slab was not exported if the slab had a cut in the end points. Now it is
exported correctly, including the depth.
TT74844
The extension .sot is now always added to the export file name if there is no extension in the
filename.
TT71325
You can now define on the Reinforcement tab that loose reinforcements, being part of a mesh,
are exported as reinforcing bar type 8. The loose reinforcement is collected by its class. You can
define the class.
TT75025
You can now set the Output file structure on the Main tab to 1 SLABDATE block with n parts.
Using this option all similar wall shells will be defined within the block SLABDATE, instead of
being defined in a separate block SLABDATE per wall shell.
TT72738
All slab parts are now taken into account when forming a contour in a cast unit. Previously,
with the 1 SLABDATE, n parts layer type export option, only the thickest slab part was taken into
account.
TT74387
The total element thickness and the production thickness (in mm) in the SLABDATE block are
now exported correctly as the total thickness of the exported cast unit.
TT74917
When exporting turned double walls, the second shell is now moved to the pallet top side.
TT74924
Previously, embeds in double wall panel were exported twice, in both layers. This has now been
fixed.
TT74947
The installation identifier set on the Embeds tab now functions for the embeds defined in
Opening embed classes.
TT74420
'Zero-Offset X-axis in mm' and 'Zero-Offset Y-axis in mm' in the SLABDATE block are now taken
into account.

TT69426
You can now define the distance between the gusset plate and the connection plates on the
Brace conn tab.
TT69424
TT70546
Previously, a gap was created between the brace and the connection plate even if you defined
that a gap should not be created. This has now been fixed.
TT73639
30
Cuts are now positioned correctly in unfolded plates. Previously, when using the One plate
option for the unfolded plate, the cuts were not positioned correctly.
TT71830
You can now create the column on the web and flange edges on either side of the picked point.
TT74493
Tapered beam 2 (S45)
On the Picture tab, you can now define in percentages or degrees how much the beam is
sloped.
TT69930
Concrete components
Wall panel (64)
The Transverse Mesh tab name has been changed to Mesh. There is a new option for Mesh
creation direction on the tab. You can select to create Longitudinal or Transverse meshes. The
default is Longitudinal.
31
TT74414
