Renovation Groundbreaking Ceremony

Construction on the renovation and expansion of the library will start Monday, June 3, 2013. You are invited to our official Groundbreaking Ceremony on Saturday June 15 at 11 a.m. to celebrate this momentous occasion. We couldnt have done it without you! The first month or so of this project will be mostly outdoor preparation by the various contractors for the addition. The gas has already been disconnected and it can get pretty cold in here, so dress in layers if you plan on visiting soon! Once work on the interior begins, staff and library materials will be temporarily relocated throughout the building until new permanent fixtures are in place. We are going to do everything we can to stay open during the entire project and parking shouldnt be affected. For up to the minute news on the progress, follow our Facebook page: www.fb.com/WWPL46074

Summer Reading Kickoff Celebration

Monday, June 3, is also the official first day of the Summer Reading Program. To get everyone excited about this years themes, we will be having a kickoff celebration on Saturday, June 15, directly after the Groundbreaking Ceremony. The event will continue on Sunday, June 16, when we open at 1 p.m. The Childrens theme this year is Dig Into Reading which is appropriate since we will literally be doing some massive digging for our renovation project. Also, anything that you find underground is inline with the theme so there should be plenty of topics to read about. Learn about vegetables, gems & gold, dinosaur bones, and even gnomes! The teen theme this year is Beneath the Surface which can be taken literally or figuratively and explores more in-depth topics in culture, history, etc. Read about everything from underground and undersea adventures to the secret identities of superheroes and famous historical figures. The adult program is designed to encourage adults to experience the joy of reading by trying some Groundbreaking Reads that may change how they see the world. There will be stations with activities for each age group throughout the library as well as snacks!

For Teens Only!

Inspired Magazine is a free, monthly magazine started in Indianapolis by two stay at home dads who are ready to get back to a different kind of work, while giving back to a larger community. Inspired by the young minds around them they have created a magazine filled with original writing, art, photography, music and film all created by students in grades 6-12 right here in Indiana. Their mission is to inspire students to be creative. Providing students with a good example, and an avenue for becoming published authors and artists accomplishes this goal. They believe the act of becoming published provides an invaluable confidence boost for students of the arts. Additionally, a wider audience benefits from learning of the truly compelling things young minds are creating all over Indiana. They publish Inspired Magazine as an App, online each month, and in print every quarter. Readinspiremag.com, will be updated daily. Ask Will for more information on how you can become published!
