Student Information System

INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY INTRODUCTION What is students information system about SIS? With the emphasis of a computerized student record, we came up with the idea of implementing a students information system. SIS is a powerful; easy to use students record database management system, to organize and manage all students information. It automates the students personal information, educational information and account information. With this program you can quickly search your students database containing all the information about student and print report to screen. You can keep track of total fees and dues remaining. With this system customer could search different information regarding student via categories; they could they get relevant details associates with the student fees details with also be computerized to reduce overhead. This software will reduce work and overhead in an office with increase in efficiency. With little training any normal user will find software easy and secure. This system enables fast access to students education and information and automates fees deposition process. There is a very good advantage with this software is that; only authorized user can use this software. So, the information regarding student will always be safe and secure. Also before the changing in the database the authenticity of the customer is checked and then subsequent files are updated. Facility for adding, deleting or modifying students record is also is provided. Facility for issuing receipt will also computerize through this system; this will reduce the overhead of employee and increase his efficiency. This STUDENTS INFORMATION SYSTEM is expected to be an upstanding easy to use system that will quickly and maintain any size students record. It would be ideal for managing personal, educational and account details of students. It would include easy menus; you would quickly search through name, roll no. Or branch. You would also be able to quickly search the dues. The program would be very fast and would perform complex searches on the fields and would print results to the screen. The project would be provided with an initial database S.I.S.mdb. This exceptional program will prove invaluable for organizing and reporting your valuable in case of loss,

LANGUAGE AND TOOL TO BE USED

FRONT END: Microsoft Visual Basic BACK END: SQL

Microsoft Visual Basic Microsofts goal with Visual Basic been to create a development environment that enables the programmer to focus on the problem at hand rather then on the technical intricacies of programming in windows environment. Visual Basic represents he most powerful rapid windows development tool in he world. The major feature includes: 1. Application performance explorer: This tool enables us to test the runtime performance and resource load characteristics of various enterprise application design scenario we are considering. 2. Internet information server (IIS): IIS is a platform for new generation World Wide Web application that must interact with other back office component and application. 3. Microsoft transaction server: MTS is a component based transaction processing system for developing and managing high performance, scalable and robust enterprise, and internet and intranet server application. 5. Visual Component Manager: He tool stores, organizes and shares the reusable components. it can contain wizards, ActiveX components, database connection objects and many other components used in VB projects. 6. Visual database tool integration (query designer and database designer) with these designers you can visually create and modify database schema and queries ; crease sql server and oracle database tables.

INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY FEASIBILITY STUDY The selection phase determines how the new system is to be designed. Technical feasibility Operational feasibility Economic feasibility The selection phase output is a formal system proposal to the end-user, which will make the final decision. The main objective of a feasibility study is to test the technical, social and economics feasibility of developing a computer system. Investing the existing system in the area under investigation and generating ideas about a new system does this. The proposed system must the evaluated from a technical viewpoint first. Technical Feasibility The assessment of technical feasibility must be based on an outline design of system requirements in terms of inputs, outputs, files, programs, Procedures and staff. This evaluation determines whether the technology needed for the proposed system is available and how it can be integrated with in the organization. Technical evaluation must also assess whether the existing systems can be upgraded to use the new technology and whether the organization has the expertise to use it. On the system development side, the feasibility study must consider the various ways of acquiring the system these include the purchase of a package, the use of a consultancy organization or software house to design the system and write the programs, a co-operative development with another similar or in-house development of the system (or a combination of these). Most of these technical possibilities will not be feasible in a given environment and so the eventual proposal will reflect the constraints of the data processing situation in the organization. It also reflects the social aspects o the system.

Student Information System

INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY Operational Feasibility Operational feasibility covers two aspects. One is a technical performance aspect and the other is acceptance within the organization. Technical performance includes issues such a provide the right information for the organizations personnel, and whether the system can be organized so that it always delivers this information at the right place and on time. Acceptance revolves around the current system and its personnels determining whether the system can Economic Feasibility Justification for any capital outlay is that it will increase profit, reduce expenditure or improve the quality of a service or goods which in turn may be expected to provide increased profits proposed or developing systems must be justified by cost and benefit criteria to ensure that effort is concentrated on projects which will give the best return at the earliest opportunity. To carry out an economic feasibility study, it is necessary to place actual money values against any benefits that will accrue from new system created by the project. Such calculations are often described as cost-benefit analysis. The technique of costbenefit analysis is often used as a basis for an assessing economic feasibility. This type of analysis is not new; it is carried out as a matter of course for many other capital development projects. The factors for evaluation are: Cost of operation of the existing and proposed system; Cost of development of the proposed system; Value of the benefits of the proposed system; The implementation of the new system will definitely be beneficial. It will increase profit, reduce expenditure and will also improve the service concerning the employees information. The cost of the proposed system is also very effective and easily acceptable in companys environment.

DATA FLOW DIAGRAMS It is a way of expressing system requirement in a graphical form; this leads to a modular design. It is also known as bubble chart, has the purpose of clarifying system requirements and identifying major transformations that will become program in system design. So it is the starting point of the design phase that functionally decomposes the requirement specifications down to the lowest level of details. A DFD consist of a series of bubbles joined by lines. The bubbles represent data transformation and the lines represent data flows in the system. DFD SYMBOLS:

= Source or Destination of data = Data flow

= Process that transform data flow

= Data Store

ENTITIES- RELATIONSHIP DESIGN The data-modeling phase involves modeling the database structure using a data-modeling method, such as entity-relationship (ER) diagramming, semanticobject modeling, or object-role modeling. Each of these modeling methods provides a means of visually representing various aspects of the database structure, such as the tables, table relationships, and relationship characteristics.

VARIOUS SYMBOLS OF E-R DIAGRAMS:

The rectangles represent tables The diamond represents a relationship between two tables Circles represent connectors. Double rectangle represents weak entities.
