MECHANISM OF ACTION Binds to an enzyme on gastric parietalcells in the presence of acidic gastric PH, preventing the final transport of hydrogen ions into the gastric lumen

Therapeutic: Anti ulcer agents

DOSAGE: 40mg/ vial IVTT

Treatment of duodenal ulcers, pathologic hypersecretory conditions, gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD)

Contraindicated in:

Hypersensitivity Use cautiously in: Liver disease Pregnancy Lactation Children less than 2 years (safety not established)

CNS: Dizziness Drowsiness Fatigue Headache Weakness CV: Chest pain GI: Abdominal Pain Acid regurgitation Constipation Diarrhea Flatulence Nausea Vomiting DERM: Itching Rash MISC: Allergic reaction

Assess for vital signs Assess and teach significant others of the patient the common side effects of the drug and to report any severe adverse effects stat.

DURING:
Perform 15 rights of medication Assess patient routinely for epigastric or abdominal pain, and frank or occult blood for the emesis or stools. Monitor CBC with differential periodically during therapy Take tablet or capsule with a full glass of water.

AFTER:
May cause serum gastrin concentrations to increase during first 1-2 weeks of therapy. Levels return to normal after discontinuation of omeprazole. Report to physician if any allergic reaction occurs Document findings
