ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I Maneesh Kumar Pandey avail this opportunity to express with immense sincerity, this training wouldnt have seen the light of the day without the immense support of my guide Rajiv Upadhyay Sir for showing his keen interest, constant guidance and encouragement throughout, in the completion of this training without which it would have not been possible to fulfil the requirements of the task assigned to me. As a B. Tech student I have tried to cover all the aspect of computer numerically controlled (CNC).

ABSTRACT

In line with BHEL's objective of providing consistent service at doorstep, HERP was established in the vicinity of power stations at Varanasi. The foundation stone of HERP sprawling in 29.8 acres area at Varanasi was laid on 26th September 1984. Now apart from conventional spares of Bowl Mills & boiler auxiliaries, HERP is manufacturing and supplying turbine fasteners for different power plants, turbine tools and tackles (required for erection and commissioning/ major overhaul of turbines) for various power projects. Numerical control (NC) is a method employed for controlling the motions of a machine tool slide and its auxiliary functions with input in the form of numerical data. A computer numerical control (CNC) is a microprocessor-based system to store and process the data for the control of slide motions and auxiliary functions of the machine tools. The main advantage of a CNC system lies in the fact that the skills of the operator hitherto required in the operation of a conventional machine is removed and the part production is made automatic. Initially, the CNC technology was applied on basic metal cutting machine like lathes, milling machines, etc. Later, to increase the flexibility of the machines in handling a variety of components and to finish them in a single setup on the same machine, CNC machines capable of performing multiple operations were developed.
