The new media unit of WMC was formed in 2011 and has been conducting research on womens engagement with new media in Sri Lanka, organizing training workshops for women new media producers and conceptualizing and executing various online campaigns such as the innovative campaign for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
HerSpace is the latest endeavor of the new media unit of WMC. It will be a web portal and a community of women new media producers in Sri Lanka (bloggers, writers, photographers, film makers, graphic designers, cartoonists, painters, visual artists, performance artists, etc.). They will meet, train and work together. They will operate online and off-line, to become a strong community that works, writes and produces via new media on the prominent issues in post-conflict Sri Lanka, such as reconciliation, gender based violence, migration and inter-ethnic development (More details in the annexed concept note).
If youre a woman and a producer of new media, this is your opportunity to build and contribute to a gendered discourse online (regardless of the content you usually produce). Only those who are currently active online will be selected to be a part of HerSpace so please provide links accordingly in the application form.
MEET WMC will facilitate meetings for HerSpace members to interact with each other offline. We will also facilitate online groups where they can communicate in addition to any personal communications.
