GENERAL LIGHTING

A sconce is a type of light fixture affixed to a wall in such a way that it uses only the wall for support, and the light is usually directed upwards. It does not have a base on the ground. The word applies both to traditional forms of torch lighting, but also to modern gas and electric light sources affixed in the same way.

Cove lighting is a form of indirect lighting built into ledges, recesses, or valences in a ceiling or high on the walls of a room. It directs light up towards the ceiling and down adjacent walls.

A lamp is a replaceable component such as an incandescent light bulb, which is designed to produce light from electricity. These components usually have a base of ceramic, metal, glass or plastic, which makes an electrical connection in the socket of a light fixture.

The Inverted Pendant is a single or multi light fixture that hangs from the ceiling through a mono point power connection. It cast light upward rather than downward generating ambient lighting that contributes to a warm and inviting glow for your home.

A chandelier is a branched decorative ceiling-mounted light fixture with two or more arms bearing lights. Chandeliers are often ornate, containing dozens of lamps and complex arrays of glass or crystal prisms to illuminate a room with refracted light.

A Ceiling light, light fitting, or Luminaire is an electrical device used to create artificial light by use of an electric lamp. All light fixtures have a fixture body and a light socket to hold the lamp and allow for its replacement

Landscape lighting or garden lighting refers to the use of outdoor illumination of private gardens and public landscapes; for the enhancement and purposes of safety, nighttime aesthetics, accessibility, security, recreation and sports, and social and event uses.

II. ACCENT LIGHTING

How Do I Use The Daylighting Technique In My Own Home?

Most people hear the term daylighting and assume it simply means installing skylights in the ceiling. However, skylights are just one small portion of daylighting. Other ways to bring natural light into a space in the daylighting technique include light reflectors, sun shades, sun screens and light shelves, all of which work together to direct or reflect additional natural light into a space during the day.

Light shelves are reflective surfaces that are placed along a wall on the interior of the building. Their goal is to reflect additional natural light upward around the building; thus producing additional natural light for the interior space in the same way that lamps and mirrors work together in the evening to produce additional artificial light into the space. Light reflectors work in a similar fashion, except they are installed outdoors and aimed in a way so that light is directed into the building rather than just being wasted. Meanwhile, sunscreens and sunshades work to control heat and glare while still maintaining maximum allowance of daylight into the space.

Daylighting should be combined with a combination or series of light fixtures to maintain an even amount of light throughout the entire day.
