TheobjectiveoftheBachelorofIndustrialTechnology andManagement(BINTM)programistoprepareskilled adultsformanagerialpositionsinindustry.Thiscompletion programisdesignedforworkingindividualswhohave technicaltraininginmanufacturingorindustrialspecialties. Theprogramenablesstudentstobuilduponexistingskills, improvetheirmanagerialcapabilities,andtherebyexpand theircareeropportunities. Tosuitfulltimeworkschedules,coursesareoffered eveningsandSaturdaysatIITsMainCampusinChicago, IITsRiceCampusinWheaton,Illinois,andviatheInternet forstudentswhoareunabletoattendliveclasses. Theprogramoffersfivespecializations:IndustrialFacilities (IF),IndustrialSustainability(ST),ManufacturingTechnology (MT),SupplyChainManagement(SCM)andTelecommunica tionTechnology(TT).Studentshavetheoptiontocomplete aspecializationortakecoursesfrommorethanoneareaas electives.Thecorecurriculumcoversmaterialapplicable toallindustrialsectors.Thisapproachallowsstudentsto optimizecourseselectiontosuitcareerobjectives. Theidealcandidateforthisprogramisapersonwhoisalready workingwithin,orhasastronginterestin,theseindustriesor relatedfields.Thiscurriculumprovidesabroadknowledge basewhichgivesstudentstheflexibilitytoadvancewithina chosentechnicalspecialty,ormoveintoarelatedcareerata professionalormanagementlevel. Admissiontotheprogramisbasedonareviewofcollege transcriptsplusconsiderationofworkexperienceandcareer goals.Nominally,63semesterhoursfromanaccredited collegeisrequiredforadmission(onlycoursesgradedCor betterareacceptedfortransfer).Thosewhohaveaccruedat least45hourstowardsadmissionrequirementsmaybe admittedwiththeconditionthatoutstandingrequirements becompletedwithintwoyears.Candidateswithmorethan 63hoursoftransferablecreditmayqualifytohaveexcess creditappliedtowardsINTMcoursework. AthreecourseINTMcertificateprogramisavailablefor individualsinterestedinimprovingmanagementand decisionmakingskills.Thecoursesarepartoftheregular curriculumandcanbeappliedtowardtheBINTMdegree.

Atotalof126credithoursarerequiredforthebachelors degree,consistingof63credits(21courses)ofjuniorand seniorlevelcoursescompletedatIITandthe63transfer creditsrequiredforadmission.Studentsmayattendon aparttimeorfulltimebasis,understandingthatINTM coursesaregenerallyofferedeveningstoaccommodate fulltimeworkschedulesofstudents. Thecorecurriculum(14courses)emphasizesproficiencyin theessentialfunctionsofindustrialenterpriseswith afocusonmanagementrelatedtopics.Thiscoursework includesupperlevelhumanitiesandsocialscienceelectives andtwo(2)InterprofessionalProjects.Studentsalso completethree(3)technicalelectivesandfour(4) specializationelectives,whichprovidemoreindepth coverageofspecificaspectsofindustrialorganizationsand theirrelatedsectors.Studentshavetheoptiontocompletea formalspecializationoralternatelychooseelectivesfrom morethanonespecializationarea.

INTM 412 Mfg Processes: Metals and Mechanical Systems Abroadrangeofmanufacturingprocessesarestudied,including casting,forging,rolling,sheetmetalprocessing,machining,joining, andnontraditionalmethodssuchaspowder,EDM,andadditive processes.Particularattentiononinterrelationshipsbetween manufacturingprocessesandpropertiesdevelopedinthework piece,bothintendedandunintended.Economicconsiderations andtradeoffs,aswellascomputerintegratedmanufacturing topics,arealsoexplored. Processes: Electronics and Electrical Systems ThematerialsusedinElectronicandElectrical(E&E)manufacturing willbereviewedincludingmaterialsandcomponentsthatareused toproducechips,PCBsandwiringsystems.Focuswillbeonthe processesforproducingtherangeofpartsandproductsincludedin thisbroadsector.Automationforproducingpartsandassemblies willbecovered.Techniquescoveredwillincludesurfacemounted technology(SMT),wavesoldering,automationinsertion,automated inspection,etc.Theindustrialstructurethatmakesupthissectorof manufacturingwillbecovered. INTM 444 Export/Import Internationalizationofindustryrequiresspecialexpertiseand knowledge,whichmustbetakenintoconsiderationthroughout allinteractionswithoverseascompanieseitherascustomersor suppliers.Topicscoveredincludecustomclearance,bonded shipping,internationalshippingoptions,importfinancingand lettersofcredit,customerregulations,insurance,importduties andtraderestrictions,exchangerates,anddealingwithdifferent cultures.(C) INTM 446 Manufacturing and Logistics Information Systems Providesanoverviewofmanufacturingandsupplychain informationsystems,toolsandtechniquesutilizedforeffective decisionmaking.Currentstateofthearttoolsandcommercially availableindustrialsoftwarepackages,suchasMRP,WMS,TMS, APS,etc.,willbeusedandtheirimpactonmanagementdecision makinganalyzed. INTM 449 Telecommunications over Data Networks ThiscoursecoversasuiteofapplicationprotocolsknownasVoice overIP(VoIP).Itdescribesimportantprotocolswithinthatsuite includingRTP,SDP,MGCPandSIPandthearchitectureofvarious VoIPinstallationsincludingonnettoonnet,onnettoPSTNand Interdomainscenarios.ThefunctionsoftheNetworkElements thatplaysignificantrolesinthisarchitecturewillbedefined. Examplesofnetworkelementscurrentlyavailableasproducts willbeexamined.Prerequisite:ITM440orITM540. INTM 459 Issues in Industrial Sustainability Thiscourseexaminestheconceptofsustainabilityandits applicationintheindustrialenvironment.Underlyingstresses onnaturalandhumanenvironmentsareidentifiedaswellas resultantproblemsforbusinessandsociety,includinglegal, ethicalandpoliticalissuesrelatedtosustainability.Global warming,peakoil,andcommoditypricingareconsideredas indicatorsoftheneedforsustainabilityimprovements.Industrial Ecologyisdiscussedaswellasstrategiesfordeveloping sustainablepracticesinmanufacturing,powergeneration, construction,architecture,logistics,andenvironmentalquality. Casestudiesonbusinessesemployingsuccessfulsustainability programsarereviewed. INTM 460 Sustainability of Critical Materials Thiscourseexploresthelimitationsinsupplyandtheneedfor sustainableuseofcarbonandnoncarbonbasedmaterialssuchas oil,minerals,food,waterandothernaturalresourcesusedby industry.Limitationsintheglobalavailabilityofsuchresources posechallengestoindustrywhichwillrequirecarefulconsideration andplanningtoensurecontinuedprosperityforcurrentandfuture generations.Coursewillcoverstrategiesandoptionstomitigate anticipatedshortagesandoptimizetheuseofnonrenewable naturalresources,reviewoffuelandrawmaterialpricing,and cost/benefitanalysisofsustainabledevelopmentproposals.
