Applications SX is particularly suitable for use in the following applications: nn Acid piping systems nn Acid distributors nn Acid coolers nn Absorption & drying towers nn Pump tanks nn Mesh pads nn Strainers, inserts, tinbles etc.
Benefits
Excellent corrosion resistance No anodic protection required for acid coolers Minimal maintenance
SX stainless steel was introduced to the market by Edmeston in 1984. The introduction of SX equipment led to a paradigm change in the industry with equipment of reduced corrosion, prolonged life time, reduced maintenance and increased plant safety. SX is maintaining the leading position as the number one, standard for comparison, top performing alloy, for sulphuric acid service.
Corrosion properties SX has excellent corrosion resistance in concentrated sulphuric acid, both in static and dynamic conditions. This is illustrated by the isocorrosion diagram, Fig. 1, by comparative test data for different alloys, Fig. 2, and Table 2.

The welds produced are smooth, with corrosion properties equal or better compared to the base metal. SX is welded with low heat input using SX weld filler material. Available welding processes are GTAW (TIG), SMAW (covered electrodes), GMAW (MIG) and PAW (plasma).
