INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING
THIS MANUAL MUST BE READ CAREFULLY BY ALL PERSONS WHO HAVE OR WILL HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR USING OR SERVICING THE PRODUCT. Like any complex piece of equipment, the Lapel Microphone from MSA will perform as designed only if used and serviced according to the instructions. OTHERWISE, THE PRODUCT COULD FAIL TO PERFORM AS DESIGNED, AND PERSONS WHO RELY ON THE PRODUCT COULD SUSTAIN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

The warranties made by MSA with respect to the product are voided if the product is not used and serviced according to the instructions in this manual. Please protect yourself and your employees by following the instructions. Please read and observe the WARNINGS and CAUTIONS inside. We encourage our customers to write or call for a demonstration of this equipment prior to use, or for any additional information relative to use or repairs. INSTALLATION AND OPERATION


DESCRIPTION FOR USE Lapel Microphone equipped with the following: Female Connection for Male Connector of the Amplifier R.I. Pigtail. Clothes Clip on the back of Lapel Microphone for attaching Lapel Microphone to clothing. Clothes Clip can be rotated for users convenience. Microphone, Speaker, Amplifier R.I. Connector Dust Cover, and a Push-to-Talk Button. Two Guards for Push-to-Talk Button. (A Short Guard and a Taller Guard) Note: The Lapel Microphone is shipped with the Taller Guard for the Push-to-Talk Button. Equipped with a cable and a connector for specific radio. Equipped with a connection to attach a finger Push to Talk for a class A suits. If using with Amplifier R.I. System, follow the next steps. 1. Lift Dust Cover at top of Lapel Microphone. 2. Orientate the Cable Plug pins from Amplifier R.I. System and insert the Plug into the proper holes of plug at top of Lapel Microphone.

OPERATIONS/INSPECTIONS 1. Attach Lapel Microphone Cable to Radio. 2. Push the Push-to-Talk Button in and hold button in to talk. 3. Release Push-to-Talk Button to receive. Note: With the Amplifier R.I. System and Lapel Microphone integrated, the Lapel Microphones Push-toTalk Button will not override the Amplifier R.I. System. (See: The Clear Command(tm) Communications System R.I. for Operators.)

The Lapel Microphone can be integrated with a Amplifier R.I. System and Radio or used just attached to a Radio.

INSPECTION Inspect the entire apparatus after it is cleaned and disinfected. NFPA-1500, as well as ANSI Standards Z88.2 and Z88.5, describe three levels of inspection procedures which are to be performed. Refer to these documents, or to an inspection program prepared by a health professional in establishing an inspection program. (See Operation and Instructions for apparatus.)

Push-to-Talk Button

Do not inspect the lapel microphone before cleaning if there is danger of contacting hazardous contaminants. Clean and disinfect first. Then inspect. Failure to follow this precaution may cause inhalation or skin absorption of the contaminant and result in serious personal injury or death. Component Inspection (AFTER EACH USE and MONTHLY)

INSTALLATION 1. Connect Lapel Microphone to the specific radio with cable at bottom of Lapel Microphone. Note: There are various types of Radio Cable Connections. Ensure that the Radio Cable Connection is for that Radio and the Lapel Microphone is also for that specific Radio. 2. Lift tab of Clothes Clip on the back of Lapel Microphone, note the Clothes Clip can rotate. 3. Clip the Clothes Clip to Shoulder Strap or nearest location to facepiece for best voice communication.

1. Inspect Housing, Dust Cover, Pigtail and Plug for cracks and tears. 2. Inspect Clothes Clip for operation. 3. Inspect Guard on Push-to-Talk Button for tightness. Note: The Guard is a twist to lock. If any component does not meet the above inspection, the lapel microphone must be removed from service.

MAINTENANCE
FUNCTIONAL CHECKS (AFTER EACH USE and MONTHLY) 1. Attach Lapel Microphone cable to radio. 2. Push-to-Talk button and talk 3. Release Push-to-Talk button to receive. Replacing Guard for Push-to-Talk Button Note: Each Lapel Microphone Unit is supplied with Two different Push to Talk Button Guard Rings, A Taller Ring is installed at the Factory, The user can remove the Taller Ring and replace it with the Shorter Ring. The Taller Ring Guard provides better protection from accidentally activation of Push to Talk Button. The Shorter Ring Guard allow the user to activate the Push to Talk Button with Palm of hand. 1. Turn Guard counterclockwise and lift Guard out of Housing. 2. Insert Guard into Housing and turn clockwise to lock Guard into Housing. Finger tight.

WARNING

Do not attempt repairs beyond those specified in this manual. Only trained or certified personnel, authorized by MSA, are permitted to maintain and repair this Lapel Microphone. Lapel Microphone must not be repaired beyond the manufacturers recommendations. 29 CFR Part 1910.134, Par. (f) (4) makes these requirements clear: Replacement or repairs shall be done only by experienced persons with parts designed for the Lapel Microphone. No attempt shall be made to replace components or to make adjustment or repairs beyond the manufacturers recommendations. Lapel Microphone shall be returned to the manufacturers or to a trained technician for adjustment or repair. Failure to follow this warning may result in serious personal injury or death.

Should any component of the system fail, the user must disconnect the Lapel Microphone Cable from the Radio and then hold the Radio to the Amplifier RI on Facepiece for the Stand Alone operations of the Radio.
