Legacy of Roberto C. Goizueta

Our school is named for the late Roberto C. Goizueta, CEO of The Coca-Cola Company from 1981 until his untimely passing in 1997. As noted by legendary investor Warren Buffett, Roberto C. Goizueta will be remembered for a host of achievements, but none will exceed what he did for his shareowners, and that will be just as he wanted it to be. Here, after all, was a company that in almost 100 years had gone from essentially zero to a value of $4 billion. During his 16 years as CEO, [The Coca-Cola Company] went from [a value of] $4 billion to $145 billion. At Goizueta we continue to espouse performance in the principled and ethical manner that was the foundation for Mr. Goizuetas successful leadership of The Coca-Cola Company, and the Goizueta Core Values reflect his philosophy and beliefs. These Core ValuesCourage, Accountability, Rigor, Diversity, Teamwork, Integrity, and Communityare an intrinsic part of the Goizueta experience, permeating our efforts and constituting a distinguishing characteristic of our MBA programs. At Goizueta, we proudly graduate Principled Leaders for Global Enterprise.

connecting to the network

With strong support from Goizueta faculty members, I decided an entrepreneurial route would be more rewarding for me than a traditional career path. As a student, I was able to compete in industry-sponsored research and case competitions and interact with alumni to quickly grow my network of professional connections to validate my business model. The decision to start my own business was incredibly difficult given the risk, but having control of my professional and personal life is priceless.

Having worked in IT for almost six years, I wanted to move into finance in the pursuit of new challenges and better career prospects. I fully expected an uphill battle given that I had no prior professional experience in finance. After thorough research into various MBA programs, I became convinced that Emorys Evening MBA was by far my best bet. Not only did Goizueta boast outstanding finance professors, but the Emory Center for Alternative Investments served as a perfect opportunity to gain experience in the world of high finance. Owing to the top-notch training, invigorating classroom discussions, personalized attention, and strong network, I was able to transition into my dream job while still in school. Today I serve as a buy-side analyst for a $400 million global fixed income fund. What a difference my Emory MBA has made in my life.
