Restore Active Desktop Recovery Fix

Rights Reserved. Magazine Premium created by Themes by Active desktop recovery is one of those errors you wish never existed. Its not a showstopper but definitely annoying. Ive run across this issue various times throughout computer tech career. Im not sure what causes this error but it could be virus or spyware related. It could also be one of the weird Microsoft errors that happens just because its a Microsoft product (you know exactly what Im talking bavotasan.com. about). Normally I would tell you to reboot your computer and try again. Chances are, youve already restarted your computer many times and thats how you got here. Below are four different fixes that might help you restore active desktop. You will need to restart your computer after each fix and see if it resolves your active desktop recovery error. Please comment whether it resolved your computer issue or not!

1. This is by far the easiest fix if it works! 2. Click the Restore my Active Desktop button.

3. Reboot computer

Solution #2
This is probably the easiest fix. Copy and paste the below in notepad and save as fix.vbs on your desktop. Run the file and reboot your computer! HKEY_CURRENT_USER = &H80000001 strComputer = . Set objReg = GetObject(winmgmts:\\ & strComputer & \root\default:StdRegProv) strKeyPath = Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components strValue = 0 ValueName = DeskHtmlVersion objReg.SetDWORDValue HKEY_CURRENT_USER, strKeyPath, ValueName, strValue

Solution #3
1. Go to Run, type regedit and hit enter 2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet 3. Select the value DeskHtmlVersion 4. Select the Decimal radial button

5. Change the value of 272 to 0 6. Most of the time it might take a few seconds for your background to appear and other timesyou might need to restart your computer.

Solution #4
1. 2. 3. 4. Open an explorer window or My Computer Tools Folder Options View

5. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files 6. Now do a search for desktop.httit should be on your C: normally 7. Delete any desktop.htt files you find (there could be more than one depending on how many user profiles are on the machine) They should be located in Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer 8. Close all windows you have open 9. Now reboot your PC..Windows will recreate desktop.htt for you and it should work!

1. jessie on January 19, 2008 at 1:52 am as a Windows user myself, i encounter problems like this once in a while. and oh, man its so frustrating when this problem occurs. this is perhaps the best advantage of Linux over Windows. in Linux, script errors and virus attacks seldom happen. in fact, i havent encountered one.

This did not work for me and my other issue is that when this all happened it took off all the liks on my start menu. I dont have a run link anymore. If something were to be deleted that shouldnt be deleted, youre computer might not properly work anymore. Just Google it and do some research.

Originally i thought i had 2 desktop. and i was trying to find out how to just make it one. Because when i turn on the computer while its booting up, i see the desktop with its background, the task bar at the bottom with the necessary buttons, the only thing i dont see are the icons i have on the desktop. then i get this other desktop screen comes up with all the icons and a white screen telling me to restore active desktop recovery. i just tried the first method, nothing happens, i tried the regedit method. i dont know what to say, i still have the 2 desktop screens, the first is the same as i describe earlier and the second screen is blue with only the icons in the background. can you help me. ive tried everything.

The DeskHtml file I found and changed to 0 was located under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components and did not include the safemode folder. Create String Key, give it name DeskHtmlVersionToZero 6. Fill The Value with C:\WINDOWS\system32\DeskHtmlVersionToZero.exe 7. Restart Computer. 8. To Check it, type msconfig on StartMenu > RUN, goto startup tab, you will see DeskHtmlVersionToZero on your startup program. 9. And Check that Your DeskHtmlVersion Keep in Zero Value. But when I click Tools it doesnt give me anything that says Folder Options. It only says Map network drive Disconnect network drive and Synchronize How do I get to folder options? Now, of course I made sure the Work Offline option was NOT checked, and it wasnt. Any ideas as to why it canceled my internet? Betty on November 7, 2009 at 1:35 pm Yes fix # 2 worked for me ,,, took me a while to figure out that HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components once you find HKEY_CURRENT_USER you click on it,, and scroll until you see the word Software,click on it and scroll and find the word Microsoft ,, just keep doing that until you get to the last word Components once you click on it then look to the box to your right and just follow from there , I think that is why other people were having problems getting it, Thanks ever so much for the help

exertime I close this window out the IE 8 Just reloads and I cant ever close out a session with IE 8 I end up using the task manager to try to close down the extra pages that then pop up and wind up shutting the whole computer off at the on off switch. Please help me with this problem before I go MAD!!! Thanks.

To make matters worse the computer is in another country so I have to remote it every time. Thanks for the solution. If you have any idea why it might happen let me know. The computer does not get used for anything but e-mail and skype calls and a little web surfing.
