HIGHLIGHTS
Digital audio codec/multiplexer for satellite uplinks Single rack unit height means more uplink channels of audio using less equipment space True, automatic backup protection for your network Accepts analog or digital AES/EBU input
To build the DAC700 into a complete digital audio satellite uplink, simply add a Radyne ComStream CM701 satellite modem, an RF transmitter, and an antenna. Many users install the DAC700 encoder at the audio source, with the modem and satellite transmitter (at another location) linked to the encoder by fiber optics, ISDN lines, or microwave. The DAC700 can also be set up as a full-duplex codec for point-to-point transmission using a DAC700 at each end of the link. Audio and data can be transmitted and controlled in both directions simultaneously. The ISO/MPEG encoding is implemented by software, so any MPEG upgrades are easily and cost-effectively incorporated into Radyne ComStream products.
OV E RV I E W
The Radyne ComStream DAC700 audio codec/multiplexer is the most efficient, flexible, and compact digital audio encoder on the market. The DAC700 accepts analog or digital audio input, then uses ISO/MPEG Layer II compression to digitally encode the audio, reducing your recurring transmission costs and delivering audio at CD quality. Radyne ComStream was the first to market with products using MPEG II, which has become the industry standard, and is backed by the International Standards Organization (ISO). The innovative DAC700 is both integrated and compact. The reduced size allows more channels of audio in each standard rack a maximum of eight channels instead of only four per rack. The integrated design of Radyne ComStreams DAC700 means that a spare channel can automatically configure itself to match any online audio channel. True, automatic backup can be built into your network. The DAC700 accepts input at eight different operating rates to let you set a balance between transmission costs and audio quality. Use higher data rates for high-quality stereo output, or use lower rates if the application requires only lower-quality sound. In addition, the encoder multiplexes relay que signals and user data (up to 9600 bits per second) into the output to help you build automated audio networks and distribute information to remote locations.
