An understanding of Electricity and Electronics is a primary requirement in all branches of engineering and science education. A challenging and interesting medium is required to hold the attention of students in such a multi-discipline area of study. The wide range of work boards available from Feedback meets the majority of needs in academic, vocational and industrial training establishments, and provide a hands-on approach. Hardware is supported by comprehensive teaching manuals and, in many cases, detailed Discovery software for Computer Assisted Learning is available. Discovery courseware provides the student with on-screen assignments and PC based instrumentation when applicable. The work boards can be used in two ways, depending on the methodology required. The use of conventional instruments oscilloscope, frequency and digital multimeters etc. in making measurements is of importance in the training of service technicians and engineers. The use of PC based instrumentation and courseware offers a reduction on lab requirements for conventional test equipment and is more suited to general electricity and electronic course training needs. Two types of work boards are available, one that requires the circuit to be constructed by the student from discrete components mounted on pin carriers and the other that has pre-mounted components required for a specific area of study.

Discovery PC-based instrumentation oscilloscope (available when using the 92-300-1 console)
Discovery software is Feedbacks continuously evolving software package that is used to develop the Discovery Courseware. Discovery courseware presents on-screen student assignments that guide the student through the practical exercises and provide the theory for the subject being studied. The software also provides a PC based instrument toolbox that is made available for specific products which need the use of measuring instruments, such as an oscilloscope, digital voltmeter, frequency meter and spectrum analyser. The instrument toolbox can be launched by the student when instructed to do so from the course instructions. To obtain the full benefit of Discovery courseware the Teknikit Console 92300-1 is required. The console provides power supplies for the various work boards and two BNC inputs conveniently positioned near the consoles upper edge for the PC based instrumentation. The Teknikit console is a robust bench-top unit that provides a platform for both types of work-boards; either self-constructed circuits or pre-mounted types.

The two options available offer the use of either virtual, or conventional instrumentation. The choice will depend on the teaching methodology required. The virtual instrumentation route offers consistency and repeatability in training and a reduction in instrumentation cost, whilst the use of conventional instruments provides a more traditional feel.
A range of microprocessors, microcontrollers and programmable logic modules is available which are used primarily with the Applications Board 24-200. It is recommended that the 24-200 be used with the trainers if the courseware provided with each trainer is to be followed. The controllers have a common I/O bus and are supported by a range of crossdevelopment, assembly language, software packages working from the host PC. All communication software operates with Windows 98, XP and NT. Curriculum Coverage
