Book Review: The Future is Yours: Do something about it!

By Raymon Grace

About the Author Raymon Grace is 68 years old, married to Nancy Grace, and has a daughter April Grace, all of whom are mentioned in the book to be reviewed. Grace and his family are residents of Saltville, Virginia1, a small town situated near the Appalachian Mountains. From the blurb of the book and his foudations website, Grace is a self proclaimed mountain man and is reported to have been studying various forms of healing since 1973. His personal bio posted on his website does not make it clear who he was trained by or from where he learned his healing talents. Further investigation shows claims that he was trained by Rolling Thunder (Cherokee Medicine Man) and Chief Two Trees (Cherokee chief and medicine man). Rolling Thunder, also known as John Pope, was known for his spiritual healing abilities and passed away in 19972. What is most interesting is that a search for Chief Two Trees Cherokee chief results in the affirmation that such a chief and healer existed, however he was born in 17613. His death date is uknown, but it is reasonable to assume that Chief Two Trees passed away prior to Raymon Graces birth. He has established a 501[c] 3, The Raymon Grace Foundation. The foundation received IRS tax exemption in April of 20084. According to the home page of the foundations website the goal is to stop a trend of more people using and polluting water, resulting in less drinkable water. However from the home page it is unclear how they intend to change this trend. Definition of Dowsing

Summary of Claims Graces primary claim is that through your intent you can affect behavioral, emotional, financial, health, etc. change or improvement in ones life. Dowsing is a briefly touched on conduit through which your intent can be channeled to affect the desired change. Grace suggests and then goes about attempting to prove that the human race has more mental

abilities, which (if one learns how to harness) can be used to change your life, your familys life and your community. Analysis of Claims Grace begins the book with a chapter entitled Learning the Basics where he suggests that one can program themselves to be aware of when things that are dangerous are going to happen in the coming future, so that one can change the energy of that future to prevent it from happening. He backs this claim with a number of personal experiences, either of his own or other people. In this section he tells the reader that one must relax the body and mind so one can focus ones thoughts and visualize the outcome that is desired. This can be used to improve ones work environment (personal experience) or even prevent a friend from dying in a tractor accident (also a personal experience). In the case of the tractor accidence Grace claims he called the friend and the friend reportedly says that the tractor was about to tip over when all of a sudden it righted itself. Grace says that this was because he changed the energy of the situation, however the friend that was supposedly in the tractor never mentions how far tipped over the tractor was, so it is possible that the tractor righted itself based on the fact that it had not overcome its center of gravity. Grace even makes the claim that one can clear the garden of pests by just willing it with ones mind. Grace suggests that to relax the body and mind one has to achieve the correct cycle. He draws analogies to the fact that the earth has a cycle (in this case he draws attention to the Gregorian calendar), the heart has a cycle (here it is that it beats a number of times per minute) and that finally brain the brain has a cycle. He says that the brains cycle is related to the various frequencies of the brain and the emission of these is in beats per second. He states that there are delta (0.5 3), theta (4 7), alpha (8 14), and beta (15 >) frequencies, however he does not specify what units these thresholds are in. Are they in hertz, as a scientist might presume, or in his own specified unit of beats per second. REFERENCE!!! Upon further research it is evident that Graces various definitions of brain waves is not entirely correct, while research is not completely decided on the thresholds, it is unanimous that beta waves do not extend up to infinity, but have an upper limit, above which there are gamma waves. This research also yielded that beta waves are associated with an active or thinking mind and muscle contraction. REFERENCE!!! Grace goes on, after providing these scientific definitions to suggest that alpha frequencies are the best for healing and has been shown to be generated from the hands (aka healing hands), however he does not provide any references as to where this evidence can be found or how it was conducted.

He says that we should calm our minds to lower our brain frequencies so that we can focus on changing the energies of events or future events, however (as previously mentioned) beta frequencies are associated with thinking and it is not possible to intend something or intend to change the energies of something with out thinking and therefore be in the beta frequency range. Raymon furthers this claim of needing to lower the brain frequencies by asserting that children do this naturally and thus have an increased imagination he asserts that adults have a decreased imagination due to the increased frequency of adult brain waves and that adults can regain this imagination by giving thoughts more power by lowering the frequency of our brain waves. The largest is question is how do we know that we have lowered the frequency of our brain waves, unfortunately Grace never truly provides one with this information but merely suggests that one will just know. To prove this Grace uses a personal experience where he says that when he is truly in a relaxed state he can hear the dialogue on a muted television. This is simply impossible, as this would (a) suggest that he is not truly focused on his healing work and (b) given that his timpanic nerve is not being stimulated by sound waves from the television. Following be told how to lower brain frequencies, we are finally equipped to learn how to use our intent to change outcomes. This claim is backed up with a number of stories submitted by other people claiming that they intended for the court case to turn out well and it did or they intended to do well on an exam and they did. Raymon says that this is due to the fact that the energy surrounding these events was changed by the persons intentions. By these claims by relaxing my mind and then intending that I will get an A on this paper I will, even if this requires effecting the free-will of the person grading the paper. Since I have now changed the energy surrounding the grading of this paper, I have changed the willingness of the grader to give this paper an A. How one can use a pendulum (a part of his dowsing system which is never completely defined) to achieve certain goals. He attests that one can use a pendulum and a circle with numbers in concentric circles to determine the value of things or how many of something you might have. He tells us that one will know which concentric circle of numbers the pendulum is referring to by what ones is asking of the pendulum. For example if one wants to know the nutritional value of food, then one would use the concentric circle that counts by 10, which clearly is for percentage values. If one would like to count the number of cattle that a friend owns, then one would know to use a certain circle by knowing a rough estimate of the number of cattle that that friend owns. The most notable claim associated with the section on the pendulum is that Grace asserts that his friend can subsist on gallons of water and one cracker a week (the cracker is to satisfy this friends salt cravings). He asserts that the friend can subsist on o nly water because the friend has changed the nutritional value of the water that he drinks with his intent such that it contains all the necessary nutrients that the body requires to survive. Grace claims that

he knows that this is true because he has checked the nutritional value of the water with his pendulum before and after his friend has come into contact with it. It supposedly went from 0 nutritional value to a value of 90. It is generally accepted that the body requires a large amount of water to function normally and uses this water to maintain thermal homeostasis (perspiration), lubricate joints, and aid in the removal of waste from the body5. Additionally the nutrition information of a generic bottle of water has 0 Calories, 0 % fat, 0 % of any vitamins, 0g carbohydrates, fiber, protein, etc6. Finally for a 51 or older male that is sedentary must consume approximately 2000 Calories per day to maintain their weight7. By all accounts this male is not consuming any calories at all, minus, perhaps, 40 Calories per week associated with a cracker. So either this gentleman is severely underweight and requires medical supervision or he is eating more than he claims to.
