How to Protect Yourself from the Hidden Dangers of Mobile Devices

Did you know that you may have a handheld, cancer-causing device in your pocket right now? Odds are you own a cell phone, since 87% of the world's population now does. Yet, few realize the serious health dangers posed by cell phones. More and more studies are exposing the dangers of cell phone radiation including its potential to cause cancer. The World Health Organization (WHO)/International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) released a statement classifying cell phone radiation as a "Class 2B carcinogen." And just last year, the head of the Federal Communications Commission called for "a review of the agency's stance on radiofrequency energy emitted from cell phones." Most concerning to medical professionals is the potential link between cell phones and the main types of brain tumorsglioma and meningioma. Cell phones have also been linked to: Diabetes Depression Heart irregularities Hyperactivity, emotional problems and behavioral disorders in children and teenagers Breast cancer Pelvic bone damage Impotence Impaired fertility Cancer Goes Wireless One ominous and unequivocal sign of the link between cell phones and cancer comes in the form of parotid gland tumors. Parotid gland tumors develop in the salivary gland closest to the cheek, the same spot most people hold their cell phones. In 2009, Dr. Siegal Sadetzki testified before the U.S. Senate that cell phones are a contributing cause of parotid tumors. According to Sadetzki's study, the risk of getting a parotid gland tumor on the same side of your face to which you hold your cell phone is 34% higher for cell phone users of 5 years or more, 58% percent higher after about 5,500 calls, and 49% higher after spending more than 266.3 hours on the phone. Unfortunately, a cell phone poses risks even when not in use. Simply carrying a phone within 6 inches of your bodyin a pocket, attached to a belt, or even in most pursesputs you at risk. DNA + EMF = Bad News for Your Wellbeing Scientists studying the effects of electromagnetic frequencies (EMF), such as the radiation emitted from your cell phone, have now identified several ways EMF impacts your cells and damages your DNA.

Dr. Martin Blank, Ph.D., is one of the most experienced researchers of the cellular and molecular effects of EMF in the United States. Dr. Blank believes that the structure of human DNA makes it "especially vulnerable to electromagnetic fields of all kinds." The studies showing its significant and damaging effects are not junk science. These studies are ... Peer-reviewed Published Replicable Expertly evaluated In short, says Blank, the long-term effects of EMF exposure can be quite harmful. She says this is a fact that should no longer be questioned.

What the Industry Has to Say In a recent article on cell phone radiation, natural health specialist Dr. Joseph Mercola reminded readers that the telecommunications industry is incredibly influential. "According to a review by Dr. Lai in 2008," Mercola writes, "the probability that a study will find 'no effect' is two to three times higher in industry-funded studies." With that in mind, the fact that a 13-country study funded by British company Interphone showed that 1,640 or more hours of cell phone use increased your risk of brain cancer by 40% seems even grimmer.
Protecting Yourself and Your Loved Ones It's unlikely cell phones will disappear anytime soon. A study done by Cisco Systems Inc. predicts that the number of "smart phones" alone will exceed the population of Earth within four years. While it is promising that the FCC is reevaluating the emissions standards set in 1996, you shouldn't wait for the bureaucratic smoke to clear. Here are 3 simple steps you can take right now to limit your exposure: Keep cell phone conversations quick Turn your phone off whenever possible Purchase a hands-free device; this will keep more distance between your face and your phone.
