MULTIMEDIA TECHNICIAN

ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE

1. ROLE PURPOSE:

The Multimedia Technician is a member of the Audio/Visual Department of the


Brother Liguori Resource Centre Library & Information Services Team. The function
of the Resource Centre is to deliver a broad range of services to support the
College’s educational mission.

The focus of the role is working with digital and multimedia technology to assist
students and teachers in a range of learning initiatives; support the integration of
new technologies; and take responsibility for the development of multimedia
products which support the College’s educational mission.

The Multimedia Technician also assists the Audio Visual Technician in the day-to-
day management of school events, and the operation of AV equipment around the
College.

2. ROLE RESPONSIBILITY

The Multimedia Technician is directly responsible to the Head of Library &


Information Services, and ultimately the Headmaster.

3. ROLE ACCOUNTABILITY

3.1. College Community

3.1.1 Contribute to the building of positive relationships within the


College community
3.1.2 Collaborate and work effectively as a team member within the
Brother Liguori Resources Centre
3.1.3. Provide prompt and professional service
3.1.4 Contribute to the provision of a welcoming atmosphere to those
who use the Centre’s facilities
3.1.5 Assist in the development of collaborative partnerships and
effective communication links within the College community
3.2 General duties

3.2.1 Support the Teacher Librarians in the supervision of students


within the Resources Centre
3.2.2 Provide day-to-day technology and multimedia support to
students and staff
3.2.3 Support the Information Services team in student supervision
at rostered periods before and after school and at lunchtime, as
directed by the Head of Library & Information Services
3.2.4 Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Library &
Information Services

3.3 Multimedia and Graphical Services

3.3.1 Provide specialist media capabilities for school Assembly,


special events, sport, meetings, curriculum needs, assessment
activities, media instruction, and as required in response to
school needs.
3.3.2 Record, remix and develop image/video/media products of
sporting and school events, school productions, for Assembly,
and for advocacy and promotion for the Resources Centre and
for the College community
3.3.3 Undertake intranet, learning management system and web
content management and development in designated areas of
responsibility
3.3.4 Assist in the delivery of Web 2.0 information services e.g. image
collections, podcasts & webcasts, social bookmarking,
information enrichment, and promotion activities via social
networking sites
3.3.5 Provide documentation for the Resources Centre’s multimedia
policies and standards, and promote national copyright and
creative commons standards that apply to all media products

3.4 Technical Services

3.4.1 Work collaboratively with the Audio Visual Technician to


ensure effective delivery of AV services across the College
3.4.2 Provide support to the Library Technician with scheduling and
daily management of the Clickview media streaming system
3.4.3 Provide staff and students with software, web-based,
audiovisual and multimedia support in line with curriculum
requirements and to professional industry standards
3.4.4 Provide training and development opportunities for students
through the co-curricular program and school events
3.4.2 Supervise students who are assisting with AV and multimedia
work

3.5 Administration Support


3.4.1 Co-ordinate purchase of digital media equipment and
peripherals
3.4.2 Ensure multimedia equipment and supplies are maintained
3.4.3 Provide general administration support as required
3.4.4 Participate in the development of policies, procedures and
services

4. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Multimedia Technician is a vital member of the Brother Liguori Resource


Centre team, requiring the following:

 Professional qualifications and workplace training relevant to digital


and multimedia environments
 Expertise in Apple MacIntosh operating system
 Good working knowledge of editorial software such as Adobe Creative
Suite, Final Cut Studio, and ability to adopt other relevant creative
and 3D applications as required
 Good creative design skills in multimedia environments
 Ability to undertake full production of ‘in house’ videos and podcasts
for web, DVD and other formats as required
 Good understanding of the application of digital and multimedia
technologies for learning and teaching in secondary schools
 Capacity to support students in design and multimedia tasks and
projects
 Capacity to embrace educational delivery in Web 2.0 new media and
3D learning environments
 Ability to meet deadlines, to be highly organised and demonstrate
attention to detail
 Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member

4. TENURE

The Multimedia Technician is full-time (8.15 – 4.15 pm) during term time (37
term weeks), with a probationary period of three months.

Additional casual hours on a flexible basis are regularly required to support


AV events for the College.

The appointment is for a period of three years renewable on the completion


of a successful comprehensive Performance Review during the life of the
contract.

5. PERFORMANCE REVIEW CONDITIONS

The appointee to this position will be required to undergo a yearly


Professional Review with the Head of Library and Information Services and
Director of Personnel Services.
