SEGMENT 4/5 ENVIRONMENTS

GENERAL OFFICE/LARGE WORKGROUP
In this environment, these MFPs will typically function as the primary document imaging system. It will most likely be located in a hallway or aisle amongst a number of cubicles. It will most likely be connected to the customers network and used as both a printer and a copier, and possibly a fax machine as well. These machines are also often used for scanning solutions such as Scan-to-email, GlobalScan or DocumentMall. Security options such as User Codes, Network Authentication and Enhanced Locked Print may be found in certain instances.
Environment Characteristics Typically a shared output system which must accommodate a broad range of applications and be easy to use. Usually no key operator, although one person may be assigned to replace consumables. Generally requires print on demand and/or host printing jobs be done in-house to reduce job turnaround time. May employ multiple slower systems as part of a decentralization strategy. Volume is typically too low to justify a full time operator.

CENTRALIZED REPRODUCTION DEPARTMENT/IN-PLANT

Central Reproduction Departments (CRDs) are usually found in the basements of large corporate locations, and handle all the copying/ printing needs of the organization. Jobs are submitted in hardcopy or as electronic files accompanied by job tickets that identify all parameters of the job (quantity, covers/tabs, duplexing, finishing, etc.) along with the owner, a department code for charge-back, and delivery instructions. The CRD itself may be company-owned, or run by a third party known as a Facilities Management firm which assumes ownership of the equipment and personnel, and charges the company a per-click charge for every copy/print made. CRDs still see a fair amount of copy volume, and as such they usually install Xerox DocuTech-caliber systems equipped with scanners and document feeders. As manufacturers of digital copier/printers have improved their throughput and media handling capabilities, this market segment has begun to see an influx of smaller, less expensive MFPs from Canon, Konica, Ricoh, and others. Products like the Ricoh D101 or D059 are being installed to offload small jobs and/or handle incremental volumes that do not yet justify the purchase of another DocuTech. Some CRDs are also installing dedicated high-speed printers to exclusively handle growing print volumes. Environment Characteristics Copy and/or print jobs are sent to a central location. Run lengths are generally quite long. Jobs requiring covers and inserts, such as manuals and books, are common. Output systems are high speed, high volume and it is not uncommon to find duplicating systems such as offset presses in this environment. Off-line finishing and binding are often required. Document production charges are billed to individual departments. Data Centers
Data Centers are those super-air-conditioned rooms that house the corporations mainframe computers. In addition to being cold enough to store meat, data centers and their IT staff are tasked with keeping the entire network infrastructure running smoothly. As such, IT decision-makers take a keen interest in every peripheral that is connected to the network. Because the data center deals almost exclusively with digital data streams, they tend to gravitate to printer-centric solutions and have little need for scanning and copying. IBM impact/dot matrix printers dominated this market for a long time. Printing onto pinwheel-fed perforated paper, those printers would noisily churn out reams of sales, inventory, and internal logistics reports, as well as variable data applications like customer invoices and monthly statements generated by room-size AS/400 mainframe computers using a proprietary printer language. The development of a number of filters now allows the data center to replace those aging specialized printers with modern printing technology, enabling sophisticated documents to be printed onto cut-sheet paper and finished with the same ease as a PCL or PostScript print job. In this context they are often referred to as front-end solutions, and data centers are embracing them. Data centers are not limited to Fortune 500 corporations; think about the volume of cable TV, telephone, water, electric, gas, and credit card bills and financial/bank statements sent to every home and business in the country every month. Environment Characteristics Fast Data Processing & Output Speeds Ricoh Segment 4/5 Printers Offer The standard print controller features an 800MHz Duron CPU, 384MB RAM, and a 40GB HDD to quickly prepare and queue documents for printing. 75-ppm output speed for all paper sizes with near 100% productivity for duplexed pages. Average monthly volume range between 50,000 150,000 prints with a peak period duty cycle up to 300,000 prints per month. Minimal maintenance requirements through high-yield supplies: 43,000 prints per toner bottle; 350,000 prints per developer bottle; 700,000 OPC drum impression life. 4,200-sheet internal paper supply plus 100-sheet Bypass standard. 4,000-sheet optional Paper Feed Unit raise total paper supply to 8,300 sheets for uninterrupted operation.

Bypass Tray accepts 12 x 18 stocks up to 80 lb. Cover. Optional Paper Feed Unit can be adjusted to hold Legal or Ledger size stocks. The Upper 1,550-sheet x 2 Tandem Tray (preset for Letter size stock) can be converted to hold up to 1,000 sheets of 11 x 17. Tab Sheet Unit enables Tab printing and collation into the body of documents. Two Finishing options offer 3,000-sheet stacking capacity with 30-, 50-, and 100-sheet multi-position stapling. As complete document solutions, both users and IT managers benefit from improved workflow and significant gains in productivity. Below is an overview of these features in terms of functionality and benefits customers can expect. You should be prepared to address functionality based on application needs whenever installing, servicing or repairing a segment 4/5 MFP.
Next Generation Technology

The core design of the segment 4/5 MFPs represent a dramatic departure from older machines. Typically, MFPs require separate controller boards for each core function copy, print, and scan. This hardware approach has the following drawbacks: Function upgrades are costly to purchase and time-consuming to install. Network applications may require the installation of multiple network interface cards (NICs). By comparison, the controller boards for the Ricoh segment 4/5 MFPs core functions (copy, print, and scan) are combined onto the main controller board. This means that when a function is added to the base model, it is done by adding software (in the form of SD Cards) not additional controller boards. Additionally, only a NIC and/or Fax Option board is required; providing support for any application expansion. Since the B064, these MFPs have featured Next Generation Technology. Next Generation Technology offers the following benefits: Exceptionally competitive MFP pricing. Enables all applications to share hardware resources. Reduces installation time for each function. Enables seamless integration with Ricoh document solution software, e.g., DeskTopBinder and GlobalScan. Faster application development time. As you will learn, this technology significantly enhances the MFP particularly when it is working as a networked MFP solution. For example, this technology enables SmartDeviceMonitor or Web Image Monitor (Ricohs software and web-based network management utilities) to manage all aspects of the system not just the printer function. This gives you a decided advantage in every competitive situation.
Main Unit Controller

The Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFPs employ powerful CPUs to be able to quickly process, or RIP (raster image process) scanned images. When connected to the network via the optional Scanner/Printer Kit (standard on SP models), this CPU is also used to process incoming data

Segment 4/5 Product Resource Guide streams from connected PCs. This robust processor provides the speed required to handle multiple jobs in busy walk-up and shared networked environments. Each unit ships with on-board RAM and a hard disk drive as standard equipment. The memory provides the virtual space to store data from high page count originals common to high volume environments, and multiple inbound data streams when connected. RAM provides temporary storage of files for printing or sending, and enables copying features like Scan Once/Print Many. The HDD stores data for a multitude of purposes, including address book information, font packages to speed printing and minimize network traffic, security-related functions such as Stored Print and Locked Print modes, as well as for local document archival and print-on demand needs with the ability to store thousands of documents for future print on demand requirements. Additional RAM is included in the optional Scanner/Printer Kit, which boosts memory on basic models.

Connect Copy/Connect Print Option

For very high volume environments, you can connect two devices to achieve output speeds of 100 PPM to 180 PPM, which represents Segment 6 productivity at an exceptionally affordable acquisition point. The Connect Copy/Connect Print Option consists of: Two connector boards one for each system. One connector cable that is 32 feet in length. Operating Instructions. Once the connector boards are installed, the cable is plugged into the connector port on each system. Users can access the Connect Copy/Printer Option only when needed when dual operation is not required, users can still access the two devices as separate systems. How Does It Work? When users select the Connect Copy/Connect Print function: The system used to apply the Connect Copy/Connect Print feature becomes the master unit. The system connected to it becomes the sub unit. All features are selected from the master unit. The touch panel display of the sub unit changes to indicate that the Connect Copy/Connect Print feature is in use. Users place all originals (Connect Copy) in the document feeder of the master unit and apply any finishing features. As the documents are scanned, they are stored in memory on both systems. Copying begins simultaneously with half the required number of sets produced on each system. For printing, job is sent to document server first, then all steps are equivalent to a copy job. Maximum Output Speed Because half the job is produced on each device, output speed is doubled - up to 180 pages per minute - fast enough to support even the largest print jobs. Backup Capability In the event one system is interrupted (e.g., paper or toner needs to be replaced), the entire job will shift to the remaining system. Document Division
This capability (available since the B140) allows users to divide one set of originals consisting of multiple pages into several smaller files consisting of a user specified number of pages. For example, a stack of six pages can be scanned and automatically divided into three smaller files consisting of two pages each. Z-Folding Option
The versatile Z-Folding option (available for the B140, B246 and D052 series) was a great way for customers to reduce costly outsourcing and enhances an already powerful suite of professional finishing options. Z-Folding automatically folds over-size documents within a set so that they end up the same size as the main pages within the document. For example, a proposal may be 50 pages long, but pages 17 and 37 are spreadsheets/ design specs/drawings on 11" x 17", while the rest of the document is 8" x11". The Z-Fold option will fold those two 11" x 17" pages so that they fit within the letter-sized document, which increases the readability and professional look of the document. When the MFP is configured with a Fax Option (available since the B246), the system is transformed into a powerful Super G3, 33.6 Kbps fax machine designed to meet the communication needs of mid-size workgroups and departments. Workgroups will see productivity boosts through: Consolidation of hardware and supplies to support copy/print1/scan1/store/fax in a single device. The ability to program up to 2,000 frequently dialed fax numbers, which minimizes the potential for misdialed numbers. Increased document-feeding capacities and scanning speeds over traditional fax machines, plus the ability to scan duplexed originals as large as 11 x 17 in a single operation. The ability to designate a tray as the output destination for inbound faxes, keeping them separate from copied or printed output. The ability to send and receive faxes right from the desktop (LAN faxing).1 Simplified search and retrieval of stored faxes via WebImageMonitor for convenient reprinting if required.1 A second and even a third Super G3 fax line (via optional G3 Interface Type 9001) to minimize busy signals and wait times in fax-intensive environments. Standard JBIG Compression, which reduces transmission times to as little as two seconds per page to further minimize fax costs. 1 Requires Scan/Print Capability Whether the application calls for filling hundreds of prescriptions each day, submitting healthcare benefit claim forms, filing buy and sell orders for financial products, or broadcasting todays deli lunch specials to local customers, fax remains a viable and cost-efficient way to communicate. LAN-Fax
This function enables users to transmit fax messages directly from the PC, bypassing the hardcopy/printing/scanning stage, which reduces the number of steps generally required to send a fax message. Inbound fax documents are stored in the systems SAF memory. Connected users can access the fax directly, or documents can be directed to a network folder or email address, where the fax administrator can forward the file to the appropriate recipient. Other highlights of the LAN Fax software include: Cover Sheet Editor: Users can create personalized fax cover sheets that may contain the company logo, slogan, To, From, and Comments areas. Cover sheets can be edited and saved to users PCs as a fixed form. Address Book Import/Export: Data can be extracted from or poured into other LAN-Fax drivers. This removes customer resistance to switching from existing LAN-Fax solutions to Ricohs, as the primary task of manually re-entering address book entries is now automated. Transmission Status: Transmission results can be checked via SmartDeviceMonitor or Web Image Monitor, so users are assured faxes reached their destination. Preview: Users can check how the document will appear on paper directly from the LAN-Fax driver. Duplex Printing: Inbound fax documents can be printed on both sides of paper from the LAN-Fax driver, saving paper. Simultaneous Save: Users can save the fax document as a TIFF file directly to a designated folder on their PC while the system is sending the fax in one operation. Wireless Faxing: If the MFP is connected to the network via the Wireless LAN option, faxing from the desktop can still be performed. Fax Forwarding via Email: In addition to the inbound paperless fax to SAF/HDD, the Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFPs have the ability to forward all incoming faxes directly to an administrators email address or folder, or you can program the MFP to forward faxes from specific senders directly to designated receivers. Fax users can receive fax documents anywhere, anytime, as long as a PC and Internet infrastructure are available. Note: To enable LAN Fax capability, the Scanner/Printer Kit must be installed (standard on SP models) in addition to the Fax Option Type 9001. Internet Fax (T.37)

Internet Faxing1 uses the Internet to communicate with other Internet Fax enabled devices, providing free faxing. The document is received and then printed. The communication is not real time as traditional faxing or IP Faxing is. Internet Fax machines are identified and contacted by email addresses rather than telephone numbers. Each Internet Fax has its own email address. The main benefit of Internet Faxing is that there are no communication (phone) costs. Sends and receives faxes with other Internet Fax enabled units or to/from a PC. Resolution: 200 x 100, 200 x 200, 400 x 400 dpi2. Normal fax resolution is only to 200 x 200 dpi; therefore, other Internet Fax devices may not recognize higher resolutions. 1 Requires Scan/Print capability (SP model or SP Kit) 2 Requires additional memory option
IP Fax (T.38)
IP Faxing1 allows cost-free communication over a network (LAN/WAN) and is excellent for companies with a large number of branch offices requiring interoffice communications. To communicate with another IP Fax device on the same network just enter the IP address. IP Fax offers: Communication that is much faster than that of a 33.6 Kbps modem. Communication that is in real time, like traditional fax, with confirmation of delivery. A modem or email server is not required for communication. Communication that is secure because it operates behind the corporate firewall. Advanced Fax Functionality

The Aficio MP 6001/MP 7001/MP 8001/MP 9001 Series also provides a number of advanced fax features that add value to your solution, several of which are described below. Please review the fax reference manual for additional information. Fax Number Search via LDAP1 As when searching for email addresses, users can search for accurate fax numbers using the same LDAP search function as Scan-to-Email. The company directory servers usually contain profiles of all contact data for each employee, so users can scroll through recipients by name, email address, company name, or department, selecting only accurate, authorized recipients for fax transmissions. Forwarding Faxes to Email1 Users can program the system to forward inbound faxes to receivers via email, so that they are never out of reach no matter where they are in relation to the physical fax device. To enable this function, a single receiver such as the system administrator is identified as the receiver of all

As a network printer, the Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFP or printer is well suited to handle the demands of the medium to large workgroup/department or office. Additionally, these MFPs offer unique network printing capabilities. Operating Systems, PDLs, Fonts, and Drivers The Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFP or printer is ready to accept data from client PCs running any of todays most popular client/network operating systems, including Novell, Windows, and Macintosh. A number of UNIX filters are also available. RPCS provides simple point-and-click job programming for novice users, and speeds job processing by leveraging the power of the sending PCs CPU to prepare jobs for printing. PCL 5e and PCL 6 are available for users who wish to use those industry-standard PDLs, while genuine Adobe PostScript3 printing allows Macintosh users to print to the MFP or printer. Further, Direct PDF printing allows users to produce Acrobat pages without launching the software application. Refined Print Command Stream (RPCS)

Ricoh software engineers developed RPCS for use in all Ricoh network output systems. It supports all models since the B064 series and is optimized for Windows clients and offers two key advantages: Faster throughput speed than HPs PCL XL. A comprehensive driver user interface, which dramatically increases user productivity enabling easy access to all of the MFPs advanced finishing capabilities. Why Does Anyone Need RPCS? While printing devices particularly MFPs with sophisticated finishing capabilities are becoming more common in the workgroup environment, typical PCL-type print driver designs have remained essentially unchanged. Additionally, with numerous output choices and document enhancement features to choose from, print drivers have become more complex, which can be frustrating for users. Some of the disadvantages of a print driver that has not kept pace with technology include: Setting up print jobs, especially complex ones, can be time-consuming. Complex driver interfaces can cause users to make output setting mistakes. Print jobs must then be re-run, which is a drain on productivity and which leads to increased consumable and paper costs. Inquiries to MIS staff from users regarding printer difficulties take these highly specialized professionals away from more important network management tasks. Data Security for Copying2, also standard in the RPCS driver, is similar to Mask Type for Copying in that it will embed patterns and text within the original printout. However, if copies are made on a Ricoh Aficio device equipped with the Copy Data Security Unit, they will be grayed out, leaving only a 0.16 (4mm) margin of masking pattern. Beginning with the B246, Hold Print temporarily holds multiple print files in memory until the files are selected for print (by User ID) from the control panel, perhaps at the end of the day. Released files are automatically erased from memory. Also called a Virtual Mailbox, Hold Print replaces the need for a physical mailbox. In essence, each user on the network has their own tray based on their User ID, e.g., John Smith. In fact, the implementation of a User ID for storage, access and selection of Hold Print jobs is new functionality designed to improve usability and security.

Organizations with centralized printing also have a concern over data being accidentally erased by a device being turned off, deleting stored jobs. Hold Print jobs are stored in non-volatile memory, thus are safe in environments where there is open access to the system. How does the MFP do it? Hold Print is configured within the Properties screen of the printer driver. The user clicks Details (RPCS and PCL6) and then enters a User ID. The print job is started from the application, e.g., Word, and the Hold Print job is sent to the device and stored. From the control panel, the user presses Printer, Print Jobs, then Hold Print Job List to display a list of stored files. Most importantly, Hold Print allows the user to select a file stored in memory by his or her User ID. The job the user wishes to print is then selected. Pressing Print opens a confirmation screen; press Yes and the Hold Print file is printed. *Applications with their own drivers, such as PageMaker, do not support this function.
Stored Print
Also added with the B246, Stored Print is similar in functionality to Hold Print (see previous page) only Stored Print files are not deleted after printed out, and passwords can be set to increase security. Files, along with any special settings, are retained for future printing. So, for example, a user can quickly access files, perhaps manuals, price lists, brochures, and other frequently requested documents, by simply selecting the file from the control panel; there is no need to boot-up a computer.

Connectivity
The Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFPs offer several ways to connect to a customers existing data network. 10/100 BaseTX (standard): The most common networking protocol is Ethernet, and the printer configurations are ready to connect right into the network. Data is transmitted at either 10 or 100 megabits per second (Mbps), depending upon the speed of the network. Jobs are stored in a print queue, and are processed on a first-in, first-out basis. USB 2.0 Interface (standard): Installed into the PCI slot of the main print controller board, this option allows users to connect to the MFP using the latest high-speed USB cabling media for plug-and-play printing at speeds up to 480 Mbps (including Macintosh). IEEE 1284 Parallel Port (optional): This interface is used to connect a single PC to the device for peer-to-peer printing applications. IEEE 1394 Interface (optional): This high speed option, IP over 1394, uses TCP/IP for print and scan functionality (requires SmartDeviceMonitor for Client v5.0 or later). Data transmission speeds are up to 400 Mbps. IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN Interface (optional): The Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFP can be configured with industry leading wireless connectivity technology. This option allows workstations and laptops to print to the MFP without direct cabling. Two antennae are connected to an access point, which relays data to the device from any computer equipped with the proper hardware and firmware to transmit data in a wireless environment. Data transmission speeds are as fast as 11 Mbps, and the distance from the nearest access point at that speed is 459.3 feet, (distance rises to up to 1,312.3 feet as data transmission slows to 1 Mbps). The Wireless LAN Interface supports both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, and offers 64- or 128-bit encryption to protect data traveling through the airwaves. Bluetooth Interface (optional): Bluetooth is a technology standard designed to support wireless communications over shorter distances, up to approximately 32.8 feet at speeds up to 1 Mbps. This technology is also employed by personal data assistants (PDAs) such as Palm and Handspring that allow users to beam data to each other. This low cost, low-power connectivity alternative could be a good fit for companies with traveling executives that need access to printers in various offices without cabling or copying data to diskette. 1000BaseT (Gigabit Ethernet) Interface (Optional, starting with the B246 Series): High-speed Ethernet which transmits data at 1,000 megabits per second. Printer-only Version Throughput Features

Listed below are some of the system capabilities that are enabled by the G126/G148s versatile paper supply: Automatic Print Rotation In the event the paper orientation selected by the user in the driver is not available to the system, the G126/G148 will turn the image 90 when writing it to the drum in order to match the orientation of paper that is available to it. This mode eliminates the need to dedicate a paper source to Letter-R paper, and prevents the system from stopping if a user selects an orientation not loaded in the machine. Eliminates printing errors and waste by selecting the proper size paper as a function of the size of the electronic original. Enables the printer to switch to another source loaded with the same size stock after the primary tray has been depleted. This allows the system to maximize uptime and remain productive. Users can choose which sources are eligible for ATS functionality, preventing special stocks, (colored or pre-punched papers, for example), from being pulled into normal job streams. Users may refill depleted paper sources while the system remains in operation. This reduces downtime as the printer never needs to stop completely to refill paper supplies. Users may program the G126/G148 to begin each new section or chapter of a document on the right hand page of duplexed sets in stead of on the rear side of left hand page. This eliminates the need for users to insert blank pages into files in order to have chapter pages appear on the right hand page of finished document sets. Users can program the G126/G148 to pull stocks from multiple paper sources into a single job stream to eliminate manual collation and create more professional looking documents. Covers may be printed or left blank. Covers can be pulled from internal paper sources if the optional Interposer Tray is not attached. Users can request the G126/G148 to produce a sample set through the driver to be certain that all features have been programmed correctly prior to committing the printer to a lengthy print run. The G126/G148 duplexes 5.5 x 8.5 to 11 x 17 stocks from 17 34 lb. Bond. Stackless refers to the process in which two-sided pages are created one sheet at a time as they travel through and are rerouted through the systems paper path. This allows for unlimited duplexing by eliminating older duplex tray technology (which typically held up to 50 sheets), where half-finished copies were collected for second side imaging. As each page is processed independently, the printer is capable of delivering two-sided output at near 100% productivity of its rated 75-ppm simplex speed. Allows users to designate up to 20 locations within a document set for automatic Tab insertion. Additionally, the G126/G148 can print directly onto Tab extensions, and hole punch them when a Finisher is configured with the Hole Punch option.

Segment 4/5 Product Resource Guide Networking Utilities The G126 and G148 are equipped with innovative technologies that simplify initial network installation and ongoing device discovery/identification in the event of changes to the network or location of the printer. Rendezvous Support. Support for Rendezvous, Apples version of Zero Configuration Networking, is a standard utility with the G126/G148. Rendezvous is set of protocols that enables a device on an IP network to automatically allocate IP addresses, recognize and connect with other devices on the network. Rendezvous uses IETF standards for both Link Local Addressing (LLA) and Multicast DNS (mDNS). mDNS allows the new device to advertise its existence and the services it offers. LLA looks around, negotiates with other devices on the subnet, and picks a suitable IP address for the device. When first installed, the printer will query the network for a suitable IP address, minimizing IT burdens for client PC/printer set-up. To the end-user, this means that when a new device connects to the network, every computer on the network is able to use it instantly without any setup or special configuration necessary at each workstation. Further, Rendezvous allows the use of names rather than IP addresses to make printer identification easier.

The Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFPs enable users to convert hardcopy documents into digital files for more efficient and cost-effective methods of distribution, archiving, or re-purposing information. Combined with the document server and other utilities, network scanning provides your prospects with a powerful tool for fully leveraging information assets. With the above as a given, the MFP offers a variety of different methods of distributing documents to their specified destinations: Scan to E-mail Scan to e-mail functionality is standard with S/P models. No delivery servers are required as e-mails are sent directly to the existing SMTP server. The MFP uses LDAP support to access e-mail information directly from the users e-mail server, which eliminates the need to re-key an organizations entire address book into the system. Additionally, up to 2,000 e-mail addresses can be programmed into the MFPs internal address book and users can also enter ad-hoc e-mail addresses for miscellaneous destinations. Scan to Folder Scan to Folder enables users to scan documents to as many as 50 folders on one or more PCs or file servers. This is a great way to distribute information across the enterprise and share documents with co-workers, clients and partners. Up to 2,000 folders can be pre-programmed into the MFPs address book. Scan to SMB Folder is available for users operating in a Windows-only environment. It is very easy to set up, maintain, use, and does not require a dedicated server. Any authorized user can browse the network to look for the desired destination folder. Scan to NCP (NetWare Core Protocol): A Scan to Folder feature for Novell network users. The NetWare folder may be on a users PC, or on another server in the workgroup. Files sizes up to 2GB can be sent, permitting larger files to be shared without requiring files to be saved on external media (e.g. CD-ROMs). Scan to FTP Folder supports multiple operating systems, i.e., Macintosh, UNIX, and Linux, as well as Wide Area Networks (WANs) and the Internet. It is ideal for storing documents that must be shared with people outside of the corporate intranet, such as technical manuals, parts catalogs, etc. Scan to URL (Beginning with the B246) Reduces network traffic by enabling users to store documents in the systems hard disk drive, and then distribute a URL link to intended recipients. Recipients must be within the LAN or WAN. Network TWAIN Scanning Using a TWAIN driver, users can operate the MFPs scanner from the workstation. Originals are placed and then acquired using a TWAIN-compliant application such as Adobe Photoshop.

Scan to URL
First available with the B246 series, Scan to URL is a Scan-to method that sends scanned images directly to the MFPs hard drive, while an e-mail message (containing a URL link* to the document) is sent to the recipient(s), who must be within the LAN/WAN. Within the e-mail, the user clicks the link to access documents stored on the Ricohs hard drive from anywhere in the world price lists, brochures, white papers. IT will welcome the dramatic reduction in network traffic. Furthermore, there is no limit to file size, as this method bypasses the mail/STMP server. *The transmitted URL address allows a stored file to be viewed, deleted, or downloaded over the network using Web Image Monitor. Who Needs It? Workgroups that routinely share large files with each other; for instance, graphic-intensive brochures, lengthy reports, PowerPoint presentations, etc. Recipients can easily access these documents from the MFPs hard drive by clicking on the URL link contained in the e-mail. Since this document storage/access method does not involve attaching a file to e-mail, organizations will benefit from a dramatic reduction in network traffic. Also note that this feature is helpful to users who cannot attach files to email due to network restrictions. How does the Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFP do it? In order to simultaneously store a document to the Ricohs hard drive and send an e-mail URL link, the User Tools setting Stored File E-mail Method must be set to Send URL Link. The user places the document on the ARDF, specifies an e-mail destination and selects Store File, then Store and Send. The recipient accesses the document via a standard Web browser. Note: The Store File Capacity is the same as the Document Server.
Scan to Novell (NCP)

The B246 Series and later models support Scan to Folder for Novell network users via NCP, or NetWare Core Protocol. The NetWare folder may be on a users PC, or on another server in the workgroup. Files sizes up to 2GB can be sent, permitting larger files to be shared without requiring files to be saved on external media (ex. CD-ROMs). Scan to Folder is no longer restricted to Windows environments, allowing any organization running a Novell network to easily archive scanned documents to a designated NetWare folder

Host Printing Defined

Host printing is more than just high volume printing from a customers mainframe computer. Host printing involves variable data printing volumes generated by the customer from their line of business application. This could be a small business printing their invoices, statements, and reports from Quicken. Or it could be a Fortune 1000 company printing their invoices, statements, and reports from SAP. This type of printing represents the majority of printed output in any organization. If we are not capturing this output with our printers and MFPs, then someone else is. Usually it is HP by default in mid-volume environments. The basic point you need to understand is that these powerful computers manipulate customer data records, for example, and drop information into fields in predetermined positions on a template for printing, traditionally onto pre-printed formslike your utility bill. The printers connected to these systems are specialized to accept the data sent to them from the mainframe. System types & data streams: The mainframe computers themselves, while important, are just one piece of the puzzle. Whether the manufacturer is IBM, Dell, Sun, Unisys, Hewlett Packard, or others is almost immaterial to you. The actual document (a statement, invoice, or report), is also of little consequence. What is important is the type of data stream each one creates. Think of a data stream as a language. Assuming you dont understand German, if you wanted to communicate with someone who only speaks German you would need to use a translator to help you communicate. IBM manufactures the iSeries (formerly called AS/400 systems) and zSeries (formerly called S390 systems). One of the print languages these computers speak is IPDS, or Intelligent Printer Data Stream. IBM developed the IPDS environment to permit mainframes to print complex documents that contained logos, signatures, special fonts, and forms. This is a very complex environment and the output can only be printed on a printer that accepts IPDS data. Xerox also developed their own print environment and languages for the mainframe systems from IBM. These are the LCDS (Line Conditioned Data Stream), DJDE (Dynamic Job Descriptor Entry) and Metacode (used primarily on channel-attached printers). As a result, Xerox along with IBM own the dominant positions in the mainframe printing market. The other dominant mainframe printing language is called UNIX, and there are many different flavors of UNIX languages UNIX Manufacturers & Flavors IBM: AIX Solaris: Sun Microsystems Tru64: Compaq/HP and hardware. UNIX systems are very common Linux: Multiple vendors in the back-office environment. Each computer SCO: Santa Cruz systems manufacturer has developed its own Organization version of UNIX. As a result, there are some DGUX: Data General differences in each print environment. Unlike HPUX: Hewlett-Packard Windows printing, a user does not have access MPE/iX: Hewlett-Packard to the familiar print driver that permits changes Vax/VMS: Hewlett-Packard to print properties like stapling, three-hole punch, duplexing, etc. for every job. Instead, the user sends each job into a queue that is pre-programmed to execute specific functions, like stapling and duplexing. There can be multiple queues, each with its own pre-set properties, but once a job is sent to a queue the features applied to the document are fixed. In order to take advantage of the additional functions provided by todays digital print devices, changes to the customers application are likely required.

As connectivity rates continue to rise, there is a real concern among users particularly IT staff regarding the security of mission critical information. Because so much valuable intellectual property resides in cyberspace, your prospects are demanding that the systems they put on their networks do not create security holes falling prey to information theft, leaking, or falsification of electronic data. To that end, Ricoh has made the development of security features a top priority.
Authentication
Authentication provides customers with access limitation management by individual users and groups of users. By managing access, it is possible to limit the machines available functions and protect the machine settings and data stored in the system from unauthorized access. Windows Authentication
How it works: Already used by companies for the protection of information assets in the PC and Server environments, Windows Authentication requires users to input a user name and password on the touch panel display prior to MFP. The user name and password is verified by the Windows Server and the user is granted access to the system. Ricoh has designed the Windows Authentication capability to utilize existing Windows usernames and passwords, which facilitates seamless integration and eliminates the need to create and remember additional usernames/passwords. Customer Benefits: Eliminates unauthorized usage of the machine Once authenticated, the Scan to E-mail function is activated and the authenticated User Name is automatically sent to the Senders Name field and cannot be altered, which eliminates From Field spoofing. IT support is not required to register additional Login-Password systems. Users are not required to remember additional passwords.

LDAP Authentication
LDAP is a database containing a directory of information related to a companys employees including name, phone number, fax number, e-mail address, etc. If you are an employee at a mid to large size corporation, it is very likely that every time you compose an e-mail message, you select recipients e-mail addresses from one of hundreds of entries registered in the companys LDAP database. Typically, the LDAP database is maintained by the IT department on a server that is dedicated to storing employee contact information. As employees come and go, modifying the employee information in the LDAP server also updates any network devices that are LDAP enabled. This means that when the MFP (B140 series or later) is connected to the network, it is able to access the LDAP server and display all current e-mail addresses on the Touch Panel Display. LDAP support offers many advantages:

Eliminates tedious re-keying chores and spelling errors just one click selects the proper e-mail address. IT support staff no longer have to travel to each device and manually update address books by adding or removing e-mail addresses. Everything can be done from a workstation connected to the LDAP server. Entering information at the workstation is much easier because IT support staff can use a full-size keyboard as opposed to spending valuable time entering information at the device control panel. No additional hardware or software is needed the MFP can be linked to the LDAP server using the Key Operator Tools mode, which means you can offer this valuable function at no additional cost to your prospects. LDAP support is independent of the 2,000 e-mail address capacity of the MFPs local address book. This enables users to enter frequently used destinations at the system and enjoy the same benefits of one-touch e-mail address selection without errors when e-mailing documents to recipients outside of the corporation. In very large enterprise environments with hundreds or thousands of employees, users can search address books via a number of parameters designed to narrow the search. How it works: Authenticates an individual user who has an account on the LDAP server by utilizing existing username/password. Only users with a valid username/password can access the MFP. In addition, the address book stored in the LDAP server can be downloaded to the machine, enabling authentication without having to register individual settings in the MFPs address book. DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS) and Removable Hard Drive (RHD) Option

While the benefits of the MFPs standard Hard Disk Drive (HDD) are myriad, there can be drawbacks namely that latent image data remain as temporary data in the HDD after jobs are completed. Without a method of securing access to the HDD, its possible that confidential information can be retrieved and stolen. Thats why Ricoh developed the DOSS and the RHD Option. Lets see how they work: DOSS DOSS provides automatic overwriting of information after each copy, scan or print job. The data are overwritten a minimum of three times, conforming to recommended National Security Agency (NSA) methods for managing classified information, so information cannot be easily retrieved or stolen. Additionally, it is possible to use DOSS to overwrite all of the information in the HDD. This is a useful capability when returning the system or moving it to another department or building. For example, an MFP that has been used in an Accounting Department is being moved to the Sales and Marketing Group. With DOSS Type C, it is possible to overwrite temporary data from the scanner or document server function. The DOSS Type C covers almost all features required for securing the HDD and competes well with offerings from our competitors. DOSS was designed primarily to meet the security requirements of government, military and large enterprise environments. Because of the inherent security risk posed by an internal HDD, many government agencies and military bases cannot use digital systems. With DOSS, you have a way to target these environments and secure additional placements by giving them a value proposition for converting from analog to digital technology. Removable Hard Drive (RHD) Option With the RHD option, users have a way to easily manage classified and/or sensitive information. With this option, the MFPs internal hard drive is mounted externally in a secure bay, from which it can be unlocked, removed, and stored in a secure location after processing classified information. For added security, users can purchase an additional hard drive, which enables them to keep classified and unclassified information completely separate.

Restriction on Destinations (Scan to E-mail)

This setting disables the direct entry of e-mail addresses under the Scanner function. Destinations are limited to addresses that have been registered in the MFPs address book. (An administrator can also restrict access to the Address Book function in User Tools to make this feature truly secure.)
Encryption
All the security precautions in the world become ineffective if the username, password, etc. information is intercepted or tampered with. The B246 was the first Ricoh MFP to utilize encryption technology to protect this important data. Passwords and address book information can be encrypted utilizing Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. An encryption key can also be created for the machine and users print drivers, thus preventing login passwords from being analyzed when printing through the network. In addition, encrypting the address book will protect the data even if the HDD is removed, disposed of, or stolen. HDD Data Encryption Option Encrypts HDD and NVRAM (Non-volatile RAM) data immediately upon storage, which eliminates data disclosure in the event the HDD is stolen. Encrypted data includes: Address Book, User Authentication information, data stored in the Document Server, Log Data, network interface setting information and temporary data. Data is protected using AES 256 bit encryption. Additionally, the HDD can only be accessed (using a private key) by the system where the initial installation took place. This means that if the HDD is physically removed and installed into a different system, the data cannot be accessed. S/MIME (Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) for Scan-to-Email An extension of the MIME standard that ensures greater email security via Encryption and Digital Signatures. Configured using Web Image Monitor; once configured, Encryption and/or Signature are enabled using the Security button. IPsec (Internet Protocol Security) Communication A suite of protocols used to secure Internet Protocol (IP) communications by authenticating and/or encrypting individual IP packets in a data stream. Deployed widely to implement Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Integrated at the Internet layer (layer three), which provides security for virtually all protocols in the TCP/IP suite. Applied transparently to applications, eliminating the need to configure separate security for each application using TCP/IP. 81

@Remote is a system that enables us to provide customers with an expanded range of services for the printing devices on their network. Historically, customers have requested automation of meter reads, more accurate and timely meter billing and fleet reporting. @Remote will not only make these services possible but will do a great deal more. Same Technology, Two Approaches: Network Appliance and Embedded Technology 1. Remote Communication Gate Network Appliance Type The @Remote network appliance is designed and developed by Ricoh. During its development, our product development groups worked diligently to continue to enhance GW Architecture to enable these devices to communicate with the remote management system. Newer GW architecture devices can communicate about their status including toner levels and error conditions, furnish meter data, automatically send service call requests, receive firmware and be adjusted remotely. @Remote technology makes this functionality possible. Specifically, the Remote Communication Gate (RC Gate) network appliance is a small footprint, thin server that is connected to the network. It enables meter collection of network connected Ricohmade and non-Ricoh printing devices. (See table below for capabilities by device type). The RC Gate appliance communicates the meter data to a central server where the data is collected. Data communication uses HTTPS secure Internet protocol with encrypted data.

Your sales companys operation department can retrieve that data using an Internet browser. It can then be used for meter billing purposes. These devices are also able to report their toner status, initiate a service call or receive remote firmware upgrades, assuming that your 84
Segment 4/5 Product Resource Guide sales company supports that functionality. Embedded @Remote is ideally suited to accounts needing meter reading of one to four network-connected devices. Embedded @Remote is included at the factory in this model; however, it is not shipped in the enabled mode. Should your customer wish to have this service, a service technician must enable it. Since it will send its meter data to the Center System, the customer should be asked to complete an Addendum to Services Agreement, which also includes information on data confidentiality. When an embedded @Remote is not enabled, an @Remote Appliance may monitor the device. In the standard configuration, embedded @Remote will send its meter data through a connection through the LAN. In the event that this device is not connected to the LAN or if the customer does not want to send meter data across the LAN, this model offers an optional modem. The optional modem type can be used to send meter data through a phone line. The modem is available as an option. The optional modem is not available for all models that offer embedded @Remote. Embedded @Remote Cost Embedded @Remotes automated reading and reporting feature is included in the device at no additional cost. It is suggested that the automated meter reading service should be offered to the customer at no charge. Please consult with your management to obtain their direction on this matter. Just consider the impact to the customer if they are comparing two competitive MFP proposals that are very similar in cost. Consider also that only one proposal, yours, includes automated meter reporting for no incremental cost. Which proposal will have more value to the customer? Which proposal will they be likely to select? Clearly the proposal that includes no-cost meter reading and reporting will have a distinct advantage. Since embedded @Remote does not provide access to online fleet reporting, there is no access to the service and no associated fee for that service.

A Web-based device and document management utility available on the B140 and later models, Web Image Monitor (WIM) enables user and IT staff to manage and monitor all networked Aficio systems black and white and color. With WIM, your prospects can: View and manipulate documents stored in the Document Server. Monitor system status including paper and consumable levels, on or off line status, etc. Maintain the Address Book. Monitor Job Logs. Manage Network settings. SmartDeviceMonitor
The flip side to remote document management is device managementthe ability to monitor device status in real time and control or change device settings as requireddirectly from a network administrators workstation. This is a critical advantage for larger organizations with multiple placements, eliminating the need for network administrators to physically visit each machine to correct fault conditions, update address books, or change network settings. Ricoh offers two software utilities to simplify device management, SmartDeviceMonitor and Web SmartDeviceMonitor. Both versions deliver the same basic functionality, the difference being Web SmartDeviceMonitor allows for device access via a Web browser. SmartDeviceMonitor consists of two components, SmartDeviceMonitor for Administrators, and SmartDeviceMonitor for Clients. It eliminates the need for anyone to physically go to the printer to determine if is it available and operational, and properly configured for the job at hand. SmartDeviceMonitor also allows administrators to manage fax and E-mail address books. SmartDeviceMonitor for Administrators does more than inform the network manager of a problem on a connected system. It aids in the initial installation and discovery of devices, monitors job queues for all system functions, including copy, print and scan, and allows administrators to add users one at a time or in groups, with rights assigned to individual users by system function.

Users can easily see if the MFP has enough toner to complete the job, or enough available disk space to store a job on the Document Server. If a problem arises during a print job, Recovery Printing will suggest an alternate output device, re-route the job automatically, and inform the sender of where the job will be delivered-without re-RIPing the file. Parallel Printing allows users to split the production of long jobs among multiple devices equally. Up to eleven similarly-configured Ricoh digital systems can be tied together to deliver high-volume productivity. Direct Printing permits users to bypass the print server and send print jobs directly to a targeted MFP. This allows users to circumvent the network and use the system as if it were connected directly to the PC in the event of a network crash or excessive print traffic.

So to improve manageability on an enterprise level, the Ricoh Segment 4/5 MFPs support two innovative features that increase office efficiency and streamline workflow: Auto E-mail Notification and On-Demand Status E-mail Notification, capabilities that reduce administrative burden and ensure smooth daily operations.
E-Mail Notification
Auto (Alert) E-mail Notification Auto E-mail Notification is a feature (starting with the B246) that enables the MFP to automatically deliver an alert report to the designated e-mail address registered in the machine if the machine detects a situation requiring remedy, e.g. paper trays are empty. Since the administrator or service technician is quickly informed of the situation, prompt action can be taken to correct the condition. A recovery report is returned after the condition is resolved. See image below for list of conditions and detailed settings for each item. Administrators, IT managers, and service technicians can benefit from the ability to receive e-mail alerts to specific machine conditions, maximizing machine uptime for minimal workflow interruption. How does the MFP do it? Up to four notification groups (max. 10 e-mail addresses/ group) may be set through Web Image Monitor (Administrator Mode). The administrator can then identify which items a particular group should be notified about. For instance, the administrator may wish the Out of Toner, Out of Paper e-mail notification to go to Group 3s key operator. For each condition, the administrator may choose to be notified when the error occurs, or when the error occurs and is fixed. Appendix A B140 AC/DC Power Distribution

The following pages describe the B140 Series/B064 Series Point to Point diagram and AC/DC Power Distribution.
1. POINT-TO-POINT DESCRIPTION
The Point-to-Point diagram shows the power distribution throughout the unit. It shows the relationship of the circuit boards, sensors, motors, and all other major and minor components in the unit. All components in the Point-to-Point diagram are shown with power applied to the copier and the copier in the "Stand-by" condition. Copier "Stand-by" condition occurs when the power is applied, all doors and safety switches are closed, the fusing unit is up to temperature, paper exists in at least one paper tray and the ready light is on. Also included in the Point-to-Point diagram is a symbol table. The Point-to-Point illustration is drawn with an alphanumeric border. The alphanumeric border references exact areas of the Point-to-Point diagram, similar to the way a road map grid isolates a specific area or region on a map. When the Service Manual references a specific grid location, on the Point to Point, these references enable you to locate any area quickly and accurately. During this discussion, grid locations for the various components will be indicated by (parentheses). If you reference B140 Series Point-to-Point location (A2) 1/3 you will find the connector CN631. Take a moment and locate this connector on your Point-to-Point diagram.
2. B140 SERIES UNIQUE PRE-MAINFRAME POWER-UP

The primary AC input (115 VAC) can be seen on the B140 Series Point to Point diagram at location (F1) 2/3 on the Point-to-Point diagram. AC power travels to the Power Supply Unit (PCB15) terminals T101 and T102 (F2). A circuit breaker is located on the T101 hot or line voltage circuit. In this way, both the B140 Series and the B064 Series models are the same. However, when the Main Power Switch is turned on in a B140 Series model, this is where the two series differ. In the B064 Series, once 115VAC is applied to the Power Supply Unit (PBC15), mainframe power up sequence will begin. However, unlike a B064 Series, B140 Series mainframe power up sequence does not immediately launch. Instead, rather than immediately beginning the mainframe power up sequence, the B140 Series PSU (PCB15) sends 115VAC to the Controller PSU (PCB18). The Controller PSU then sends out what is essentially a safety check order to the Mother Board (PCB1) 3/3. This order comes in the form of the 12V and 5VDC source voltages sent from the Controller PSU to the Mother Board. When the Mother Board receives this signal/source voltage, the Mother Board polls the appropriate mainframe circuit boards, requesting a status check of their respective safety circuitry components. For example, the CNB Board (A3) 1/3 would be polled by the Mother Board to check the status of the Front Door Safety Switch (A4), 1/3. The LDB board would receive the request to status the Front Cover Safety Switch (I4), 1/3. All other circuit boards responsible for monitoring safety sensor/switch interlocks would receive a similar request from the Mother Board.

Segment 4/5 Product Resource Guide If the Mother Board receives responses from the mainframe circuit boards that all safety circuitry interlocks are in a ready state (all machine covers are physically closed, etc.), the Controller PSU will then allow mainframe power up sequence to begin. (Keep in mind, all of this occurs in a matter of seconds!) Once the Controller PSU is satisfied that all safety circuitry is in working order, however, the mainframe power-up sequence on a B140 Series model is the same as that of a B064 Series model. On the other hand, if the Mother Board on a B140 Series model reports to the Controller PSU that one or more monitoring circuit boards has reported that a safety sensor/switch interlock is not in a ready state, the Controller PSU will not allow mainframe power up sequence to launch. If the open interlock can be identified by machine logic (i.e., the monitoring PCB itself has not failed), an operator message will be displayed to please close that cover. The monitoring circuit board should then report to the Mother Board that the interlock is now satisfied. The Mother Board will notify the Controller PSU, and the mainframe power up sequence will begin. There are also several malfunction situations that can cause the Controller PSU to prevent B140 Series mainframe power-up sequence to occur: A safety sensor/switch interlock has failed. Even with the appropriate cover physically closed, a failed interlock will not report a status change to its monitoring circuit board even when the appropriate cover is closed. As far as the Mother Board and Controller PSU are concerned, this equates to a physically-open machine cover, or other safety interlock, and the operator message to please close that cover will continue to be displayed. Mainframe power up sequence will not begin. Obviously, in this case, it will be necessary to identify the failed interlock and replace it, or repair its circuitry. The Controller PSU does not send out the 12V and 5V source signals to the Mother Board. In this case, the Mother Board would not send out the status check poll to the mainframes monitoring circuit boards. In effect, a loop is created in this situation: the Controller PSU is waiting for a response from the Mother Board, but the Mother Board has not received the 5V and 12V sources, so no response will be forthcoming. The symptom in this case would be a dead machine: the cooling fan(s) is on, the green LED above the Operator Switch is on, but the machine does not initiate power up sequence. Three other situations that can cause this same dead machine symptom are FU1 on the Controller PSU fails, 115VAC has not been supplied from the main PSU (PCB15) to the Controller PSU, or the Controller PSU itself has failed. In this dead machine scenario, always first verify if the 115VAC is at the Controller PSU input at CN130. (If it is not there, verify that 115VAC is coming out of the main PSU (PCB15) at CN107.) If 115VAC is at the Controller PSU input, then check that the Controller PSU is outputting the 12V and 5V signals at CN131 and CN132 respectively. If not, check if FU1 on the Controller PSU has failed. If FU1 has not failed, it is highly likely that the Controller PSU must be replaced.

3. B064 SERIES POWER-UP SEQUENCE

The primary AC input (115 VAC) can be seen on the B064/B065 Point to Point diagram at location (F1) 2/2 on the Point-to-Point diagram. AC power travels to the PSU (PCB15) terminals T101 and T102 (G2). A Circuit Breaker (G2) is in the AC hot leg If the main switch (SW9) is off, power is applied to only the optics and drum anti-condensation heaters (H1). These heaters prevent the build up of condensation in the optics cavity and drum area when the copier is turned off. The upper and lower tray heaters will also receive power. A Relay on the power supply unit supplies power to all these heaters. With the main switch turned off, the optics heater, drum anti-condensation heater and the tray heaters are all turned on. When the main switch is turned on, the optics and drum anti-condensation heaters turn off, and the Tray heaters also turn off. The 115 VAC is then applied to the power supply unit (G2). The power supply creates internal power levels of +5, -12, +12 and +24 volts DC. These DC power supply outputs are applied directly to the Mother Board (D2), BCU (F5), CNB (C2), IPU (G4) and the Paper Feed Control Board (E2) and all other circuit boards and components within the copier. The various circuit boards within the unit may require one or more voltages to operate correctly. The Various circuit boards control directly or indirectly all areas of copier operation. All copier sensors operate on 5 VDC. One exception is the TD sensor (I6) 1/2, which operates on +12 VDC. All motors, clutches and solenoids operate on 24 VDC. Even the laser diode drive board (I4) operates on only +5VDC. When the main switch is turned on, 115VAC is applied to the power supply unit. When the power supply unit is energized, it supplies +5 VDC, +12 VDC, -12 VDC and +24 VDC, to all areas of the copier. The chart below indicates supply voltages to all PCBs. With DC power applied and the front door safety switch SW3 (A5) closed, +24 VS (I6) AND +24 INT signals are generated and sent to specific areas of the copier. The signal +24 VS (I6) controls power to the following components: development drive motor (B3), toner supply clutch (B3), the Drum motor, the fusing exit drive motor, the DRB and BCU boards. The signal +24 INT controls power to the following components: The by-pass feed motor (A6), Registration motor (A6), Duplex Inverter Motor, and the Duplex Transport Motor. In addition +24 INT is the primary source of 24 VDC to the development power pack (H6), the charge power pack (D6) the transfer power pack (H6) and to the PSU (F6). This means that if SW3, the front cover safety switch (A5), opens for any reason most major motors will not operate, and all power packs will be disabled. In addition with the door open the Door Open indicator is displayed on the operations panel. Three additional front door safety switches are also used SW1, SW2 and SW8. SW1 and SW2 are responsible for supplying +5 VDC to the LDDR (laser diode drive board). If these switches open the Laser diode will not fire and no image will be possible. SW 8 is responsible for supplying 24VVDC to the paper fed control board. If this switch is open the Paper feed drive motors will not operate. With DC power applied the copier begins the process required to activate the main power relay, RA2 and the heaters relay, RA1 on the DC power supply. Both of these relays use +24INT-1 as a positive source, via the BCU board (F5). If RA2 relay coil is to be activated the Power Relay trigger must be available at CN202-A5 (F5) of the BCU board. As the BCU board CPU takes control of the copier, the Power Relay signal goes low (0.7 VDC). The RA2 relay coil will be energized and the RA2 relay contacts will close. This will apply 115 VAC (H) to the fusing lamps, CN102-2/2. At this point with 115 VAC applied the fusing lamps are still not illuminated. As can be seen one of the keys to allowing this copier to come to a ready state is RA2, the fusing power relay. The BCU board, which controls RA2, also monitors TH1 and TH2, the fusing Thermistors, CN20-A3 & A4 (D4) and the fusing unit set signal, CN209B4 (D4). Each of these signals supply information to the BCU board to allow the copier to monitor the fusing unit. When the copier has successfully activated RA2 and AC power is applied to the fusing lamp circuit, the copier's various boards, and CPU and programming take control of all copier operations. Once power has been supplied the main CPU will initialize the unit. The initialization process will confirm that all switches and sensors are in an operational condition. It will also confirm that all I/O (input/output) systems are operational and not indicated as busy. When this has occurred, the copier will generate control data to generate the fusing lamp trigger signals (J3). These signals will energize the fusing lamps 1 and 2 (J2) through two Triacs (TRI 12 and TRI 11) on the power supply board. The low trigger signals, Fusing Lamp 1 and 2 (F5), will activate the Triacs through their gate inputs allowing the AC neutral line to be completed to the fusing lamp selected. The fusing lamp circuit is now complete. When the fusing lamp circuit comes to temperature, monitored by the fusing Thermistors, the CPU will turn on the READY indicator. The fusing circuit will independently control and maintain the fusing temperature at ready and during single or multiple copy runs. If, during the copy cycle, a paper jam occurs the Paper Feed Control board CPU will sense the jam with one or more of the sensors in the paper path. This will cause the TXD line (B6) to 98
Segment 4/5 Product Resource Guide inform the BCU, which will disable the exposure lamps, optics DC motors and related circuits. The Power Relay trigger (F5) will change from a low to a 24 VDC. The RA2 relay will be de-energized and AC power will be removed from the fusing unit. With this trigger and several other key signals removed, the copier will be disabled and light the proper misfeed indicator. When the front door is opened to clear a jam, the front cover safety switches, SW1, SW2 SW 3and SW8, will all open. When these switches open, selected DC power levels will be removed from the copier, causing the copier to be disabled. The open front door safety switches also causes the Door Open indication on the operation panel. The open front door safety switch (SW3) removes the +24VS-1 power levels from the CNB board, the DRB board and the BCU board. INT is also removed from the high Voltage power packs and the Power Supply board. This will disable All the primary motors driven by the CNB board. An open front door also removes the +24V INT from the power supply (F5). +24V INT is the power for both RA2 and RA1 relay coils. When the RA2 relay opens it disables the fusing lamps. As can be seen, the front door safety switches make the unit safe for the customer when removing paper jams. While much of the unit is disabled, the copier boards still retain DC power levels and can maintain job integrity during and after jam removal. If you have followed the path indicated in the preceding pages, it should be possible to see the value and the ease of using the Point-to-Point Diagram in your day-to-day service activities.
4. ENERGY SAVER & ENERGY STAR

The B064 and B140 Series copiers contain A Low Power Timer, a Low Power Shift Timer (Energy Saver), Auto Off Timer (Energy Star) and Weekly Timer features. The Low Power Timer (Energy Saver Mode) is the first feature that will automatically lower the fusing temperature by three (3) degrees in order to conserve energy. A time period (10 to 999 seconds) may be selected. The Low Power Shift Timer (Low Power Mode) is a second feature, which will automatically lower the fusing temperature in order in the direction of conserve energy. A time period (1 to 240 minutes) may be selected (default 15 min.) after which the temperature is automatically lowered. The customer through the User Tools may control these functions. This feature is disabled by pressing the Clear Modes / Energy Saver key. Pressing the Clear Modes / Energy Saver key at any time can also manually select the low power mode. It is not possible to eliminate the Low Power Timer (Energy Saver) mode, but programming it for the maximum time period (2 Hours) will make it less problematic. The Auto Off mode (Sleep Mode) is another feature designed to save energy. This function will automatically shut the copier off after a predetermined time period selected and programmed by the customer. This function can run concurrently with the Low Power Timer

Segment 4/5 Product Resource Guide and Low Power Shift Timer. The customer through the User Tools controls this time period (1 to 240 minutes). Pressing the ON switch (operation switch) on the right side of the operation panel will turn off all +5V power except the +5VE to the Mother Board and the LED signal to the operation panel. Now only the Main Power LED is illuminated. When the ON switch is pressed again the machine will return to standby mode. It is not possible to eliminate the Auto Off mode, but programming it for the maximum time period (4 Hours) will make it less problematic.
