Worked as QC Inspector Welding with responsibilities as under
From Jan 2002 to Oct 2006.

 To conduct and direct the stage inspection during different phases of manufacturing
as prescribed/needed by the applicable standards.
 Coordination with the client’s inspectors.
 Preparation of test/inspection reports and storage of records
 Dimensional control of the structural parts to be welded as per drawing.
 To check the alignment of the parts to be welded and fit-up as per applicable
standard and provided drawings.
 To control the edges spacing, root opening and gapes by appropriate tool for
conformance to drawings and established procedures
 To see that the proper type and size of electrode is taken and that the electrodes
are backed and with an undamaged coating.
 To see that the welding machine is conveniently set up and grounded and that the
cable connections and electrode holder are satisfactory to ensure the uniform
current flow.
 To ensure that the backing strip (wherever applicable) is close fitting to the joint and
it’s free of dust and foreign matters.
 Check that the form and dimensions of the weld preparation are in accordance with
the data supplied using appropriate measuring devices.
 Check that immediately prior to welding, the fusion faces and adjacent material
have been cleaned satisfactorily.
 Check that the fit-up (gape and alignment) of the parts to be welded, including any
backing strip is in accordance with the data supplied, using appropriate gauges.
 Check the identification of the welding consumables against the appropriate
specification or welding procedure.
 After final welding, inspect the welding by different NDT procedures, as required by
the specifications, to find out the defects to rectify them.
 Visual inspection of the welds during different phases of fabrication as defined by
the applicable standards, provided inspection procedure and drawings.
 To take the measurement of the welds with appropriate measuring devices to make
sure the required size of weldments.
 Conduct the Dye Penetrant Test to determine the soundness of the weldments.
 Conduct the Magnetic Particle Test to probe the surface and sub-surface
flaws/defects of the welds and adjacent parent metal.
 To review the Radiographic Image to find the defect location to mark and repair.
 Ultrasonic Testing to check the thickness of parent metal and the flushed welds.
 To inspect and witness the Hydrostatic Pressure testing to ensure the integrity
of the vessels and piping to detect leaks particularly after repair as per
specifications.
 To inspect and witness the Air Pressure Testing to determine the soundness of
the structure and weldments of the piping and vessels.
 Execute the field welding inspection, surveillance and quality control activities on
site, collecting the relevant objective proofs, ensuring that welding operations are
executed in accordance with all relevant codes of practices and company
procedures/practices.
 To issue the relevant quality records and, when necessary, write and send to quality
control-QC Supervisor non-conformances reports, verifying conformity of the work
to specified quality requirements and ensuring that the inspection and controls are
carried out and documented in accordance with the Quality.
 To perform pipes line up check, ensuring that all installed pipes/fittings are to the
correct specification and that the material is in accordance with the specified
material traceability requirements.
 Structural survey for discrepancies.
 Orientation and rectification of all welding defects and discontinuities.
 Knowledge of drawings, specifications and manufacturing instructions.
 To Prepare/verify the WPS, PQR and WPQ and to review as well.
 Certification and Verification of welder’s qualification as per standard.
 Verification of approved procedures for qualifying welders.
 Verification that approved welding procedures are being used.
 To verify that FIVE P’s are properly adopted to achieve the predetermined quality.
