Infact tool installation wizard

Installation wizard prerequisites

The wizard is built for the Windows platform and has been tested, so far, on these windows versions: Windows XP Professional Windows 7 (Home and Professional) Windows Server 2003

The wizard also should work on 64-bit windows but the components needed (see below) are not 64-bit versions that the wizard will install, only 32-bit versions. The wizard needs approximately 500-700 MB of the computers available hard disc drive.

Installation components
As default the installation wizard installs the following components: Java JRE 1.6.0_35 (there is also a wizard available with Java JDK jdk1.6.0_32 instead) Apache Tomcat 6.0.35 MySQL server 5.1.63

All of these components are needed for the Infact tool to work.

Infact tool component

The Infact tools own code is included as its own installation component in the wizard. This component is needed for the Infact tool to work.

Additional installation component

In the background, the installation wizard installs GNU Wget, a tool used by the wizard to check if the deployment of the Infact files to the Apache Tomcat has been activated before the copying of the Infact flash files continues. GNU Wget will be uninstalled when running a uninstall of the Infact tool wizard. This component is needed for the Infact tool installation to work. Here you can find more information on GNU Wget: http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/

MySQL considerations
Observe! The installation wizard should NOT be installed on a computer with an already existing MySQL thats been installed manually not using the Infact installation wizard! The following situation could occur, with the current version of the installation wizard and an already installed MySQL: Install the Infact Tool with the wizard. Point the wizard to the MySQL instance that will be installed with the wizard. Uninstall the Infact Tool with the uninstall link that the wizard generates in Windows startmenu during the installation. The uninstall process removes all the Infact components previously installed with the wizard. However, it also tries to remove all MySQL installations on the computer! Not only the MySQL installation made by the wizard.

Install considerations
The above components, needed for the installation, are ALWAYS installed as new components/services. There is no check for existing components that could be reused by the Infact tool. For example, if the computer already has a MySQL installation, the Infact installation wizard will install one more MySQL dedicated for the Infact tool. However, there is a check for the existence of an already installed Apache Tomcat which has the service name set to InfactTomcat6. If you try to reinstall over an already installed Infact tool, and there already exists a service called InfactTomcat6, the installation wizard will abort. If you try to reinstall over an already installed Infact tool, the rest of the components installed, will be overwritten. OBSERVE! The installation wizard ends with starting up the built in Internet Explorer of the Windows computer currently used by the installation. DONT STOP IT from finishing loading the following page: http://localhost:<portnumber>/infact/init.html The init.html page is used by the Infact Tool to initially add some important data to the Infact database that makes the Infact tool work. If you, for some reason, have stopped the Internet Explorer window before it has finished loading the above page, try loading the above page one more time. OBSERVE! The installation wizard creates a program folder in the Windows start-menu called infact<currentversion>. In that folder there are two shortcuts: Shortcut to the login page for Infact installed on the computer. Will start a web browser and try loading the infact login page if used. - Shortcut to the uninstaller of the wizard. Will uninstall infact if used. The infact login page is normally located here after installation: http://localhost:<portnumber>/infact -

Uninstall considerations

If you decide to uninstall the Infact tool after using this wizard for installing, be aware of the following things: The uninstaller will copy whats currently stored in the Infact tools published folder to the folder infact after uninstall files in the Infact tools root install folder. The uninstaller will create a database backup file named Infact-some-date.sql to the folder infact after uninstall files in the Infact tools root install folder. If you have added some extra databases to the Infact tools MySQL database they will not be backuped when running the uninstall. If you have added some extra web applications to the Infact tools Apache Tomcat they will not be backuped when running the uninstall. The copied/backuped Infact published folder and MySQL backup file could only be manually restored. At the moment, there is no automatic function during an installation that checks for the existence of the backuped files and tries to restore them.
