Anointing of the Sick

Please notify us (355.1292) as early as possible for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying. It is Our Lords special presence and companionship in serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or elsewhere and as often as once a month. If someone should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares!

Sacraments of Reconciliation and first Eucharist

Preparation for children who have attained the age of reason (usually during 2nd grade) is arranged either through the Office of Religious Education or St. Rita Elementary School.

Sacrament of Matrimony
Contact the Parish Office upon engagement; at least six months is needed for preparation of this joyous sacrament!

If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One

Please call us at 355.1292 If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you. PLEASE UNDERSTAND we only have one resident priest, sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

Sacrament of Confirmation

A two-year program for freshman/sophomore age teens. Apply through the Office of Religious Education.

NOTE: Adult applicants for the sacraments should contact the Parish Office.

SAINT RITA
REV. MSGR. RICHARD KREKELBERG

CASCIA CHURCH

PASTORS CORNER
Dear Parishioners,
While I am away on my vacation, I leave the following Reflection for your consideration. Msgr. Richard A man was driving around in a sweat because he couldnt find a parking place and he was late for an important meeting. Looking up to heaven he prayed, Lord help me! If you find me a parking place Ill go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of my life and Ill give up drinking whiskey. A parking place opened up right in front of the building where he had his meeting. The man looked up to heaven again and said, Never mind, Lord; I just found one. A Catholic School teacher asked one of her young students now tell me honestly, Johnny, do you say prayers before meals? No, said Johnny, I dont have to. My Mom is a good cook. Johnny hadnt learned yet that prayer is more than asking for things. In the Gospel two Sundays ago, a scribe asked Jesus What must I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus answered with a lesson on love by telling the story of the Good Samaritan. Last Sunday was the story of Martha and Mary, where Mary sat at Jesus feet listening to him. It is most likely St. Luke was trying to tell us its good to help our neighbor, but its also good to take time to be with our Lord and get away from all the ways we manage to keep busy. Remember the answer to the question of the scribe has two parts. We are to love God with our whole being and love our neighbor as ourselves. Todays Gospel follows immediately after the story of Martha and Mary. It seems that after telling us it is a good thing to spend time with our Lord, St. Luke is giving us an additional lesson on prayer. St. Lukes version of the Our Father is essentially the same but a little shorter than St. Matthews version. St. Luke connects it with an encouragement to persevere in prayer and not quit. Perseverance in prayer was also the point of todays first Reading. Somehow my father had the idea that it was being selfish to pray for his own needs. I think the Our Father teaches us we should pray for all the things we need, including a parking place, if we need one. But the Our Father also teaches us first to praise God and to align our will with Gods will before praying for ourselves. Perseverance in prayer is one of the most important lessons we need to learn if were going to grow spiritually. In our world today, we learn to hate waiting for things. That includes waiting for God. We know we dont need to inform God of what we need and we dont have to wake Him up or get His attention because he knows every detail of our lives. We need to pray and to keep asking and knocking so that we can develop our relationship with our God and our creator, a relationship that is the most important relationship of all relationships. At the end of todays gospel, Jesus said, Ask and you will receive. He doesnt say, you might receive or maybe youll receive, but you will receive. What He is saying is that no prayer is wasted. Prayer cannot fail to bring some blessingeven if its not the thing we think we need most. If we truly believe God is all-wise and all-loving, then we have to conclude that if we do not receive what weve asked for, God has something better in mind. Partly why people give up on prayer is they do not have faith in Gods wisdom and love. Prayer will always work for us in some marvelous way. We must trust the Lord in that. Amen! Rev. Joe Robinson

DID YOU KNOW?

The Archdiocesan Office of Victim Assistance Ministry periodically offers a support program for adult survivors of childhood abuse or neglect: A Faith-Based Response to Adult Survivors of Childhood Abuse and Neglect. This recovery program uses a psycho-educational model. The model is educational in that it teaches how the trauma of childhood abuse and neglect typically impacts individuals. It is psychoeducational in that it provides tools for participants to safely examine and regulate their feelings, thought patterns and behavior. The entire program is presented in the context of prayer for Gods healing and is not a psychotherapy group. The program follows a ten week format and is available in both English and Spanish. The dates, time and location of the next groups will be determined by interest.

ST. RITA OF CASCIA CHURCH

~Maintenance and Repairs Special Collection~
June ReportWe were fortunate that our excellent refrigeration specialist, Bob Wagner, was able to secure parts to repair our air conditioning unit for the Church. We have all enjoyed cool comfort since the repairswhich totaled $2413, but were so much less costly than replacing the whole unit. Please Godand St. Ritawe will be able to get a little more mileage from our aging cooling system. Now, you know, there is a price for keeping cool! Our Edison bill for the Church for the billing period May 31 thru June 30 was an astounding $3,662! We dont run the air during the week, unless there is a special event, a funeral, or a Feast Day Mass, but it takes a lot of cooling to keep the church comfortable for the week-end. Remember how miserable it was for several week-end Masses recently when we had no cooled air? June ExpensesIncluding the air conditioner and Edison costs listed above (totaling $6075), we incurred other maintenance (utilities, trash collection, Edison bill for the Parish Office, etc.) and repairs (hardware & plumbing parts, painting accessories, etc.) expenses to bring the total June outlay for Maintenance and Repairs to $9,513. June Maintenance and Repairs Collections totaled $9,332, due to your generosity. Our shortfall for the month was less than <$200>. The number of monthly donors (210 families in June versus 201 families in Mayor approximately 20% of registered families) to this special collection is showing a steady upward movement. We are grateful for your recognition of the costs associated with maintaining our parish facilitiesand for your ongoing support. The second Sunday of each month is designated for the special Maintenance and Repairs collection (the blue envelope if you receive Offertory envelopes). BUT, you may donate at any time by simply writing For Maintenance on your check or on your envelope.

Again, thank you for helping us maintain this parish we are blessed to call homeSt. Rita of Cascia.
