Justification on teaching-learning activity based on pedagogical principles

Poetry is a pleasurable, and sometimes funny, sound to the ears. Just as it is a sultry, creative, fond, joy to write to the soul especially to the students. In our opinion, by choosing this activity, My Garden, the teacher will have the creative strategy to make the students love learning poem and understand it easily. Year 2 students need to be guided by the teacher to understand the deeper meaning behind the poem. When a teacher recites the poem and let the students listen to her, the students can generate their own imagination about the insects in the poem. While reciting, the teacher also uses the pictures to create fun learning and this will help them to get some ideas and brainstorm some question to be asked to the teacher later. The teacher needs to get the full attention from them from the activity. Students also will be attracted to the cute chart because if the students only read a whole long poem without the help of attractive pictures, they will be bored and the learning process will be uninterested from their views. Pictures can help the students to understand more on insects and the garden. When the teacher asks the students regarding the poem, he or she is trying to stimulate the students response whether they like the poem or not. It is important to make the students aware of what they are going to learn. They can gain new knowledge from reading and understanding the poem. Working in group is the best way of teaching strategy because it teaches the students to cooperate and help each other. It can provide a safe structure for student creativity. From this simple activity, students process the information in their minds to reach a deeper comprehension and produce a piece of work in picture. This will help the student to create for high order thinking to apply ideas. For the fill in the blank activity, the teacher tries to test the students memorization to make them think and discuss in group which words should they paste on their drawing picture. While helping them to get more understanding of the poem, the students also know how to relate the pictures with the poem. This method teaches students to become active readers and stimulates creativity and imagination while analyzing the poem from different viewpoint.

When the students read the poem to the class, it makes them aware of rhythm, rhymes, and other visual components. The teacher teaches how to read a poem with both ear and eye. It consists of interpreting and saying a poem together as a group activity. Children enjoy this way of experiencing poetry because they have a participatory role in the activity. Students become better trained and attracted to reading poetry. It helps to develop their language skills, such as reading, writing, listening and of course increases their vocabulary too. Reading poetry aloud together not only emphasizes the poem itself, it really draws out the limerick side of the poetry plus it helps children appreciate poetry on a more distinctive level. In a nutshell, the teacher can create lots of opportunities for personalization by using My Garden activity in class. This means, the students have plenty to say, and the communication is genuine because they are talking about their own imagination of world. Poetry does not just stimulate a childs creativity; it also helps to stimulate patterns in the brain. It is up to the teacher to add the fun of reading and writing poetry, to have unbeatable combinations for the young learners.
