The specific type of scraper being installed (e.g. internal cleaning, gauging, inspection (instrumented tools), batching, and inflatable spheres), is same as identified during the Project Proposal stage. All pipes, fittings, gaskets, closure doors and valves are sourced from approved sources, per Regulated Vendors List. Horizontal scraper traps have sliding supports. Similar supports are provided for the trap isolation and the tieline valves as well as the kicker line, drain line and other above ground piping. Pipeline passing through location Class 3 or 4 zones has appropriate connections for permanent scraper launchers and receivers, installed in accordance with SAES-L-420. For pipeline dia. > 16" NPS onshore and 10" NPS offshore, a mechanical scraper loading device with suitable lift and span, is provided to assist in the loading and receiving, of normal cleaning and batching scrapers. Lifting capacity of scraper loading device is not < 900 kg for line sizes up to 36" and not less than 1800 kg for larger diameter lines. If onshore, a suitable work floor is provided with sufficient room around the trap for loading and unloading scraper, and for access by moving equipment such as a fork lift truck. Clearance between the bottom of the trap and finished grade in onshore plants, is approximately 1 m. A surface drainage system is provided to collect any spill from the trap and wash water.

Unless more up-to-date information is available on the type of instrumented scraper, the trap length should be based on the maximum A10 scraper lengths for normal and for instrumented scrapers listed in Attachment 1. Scraper passage indicator (SPI) are bi-directional, give positive indication A11 of scraper passage, and are not solely dependent on a superficial or painted marking or other method, that can become obliterated. A12 SPI is designed for manual reset and allows replacement of all moving parts with pressure in the line.

SPI installed on a buried portion of the pipeline, has an extended stem A13 with 4-inch NPS protective sleeve, such that the dial or pointer will be approx. 50 cm above ground. Tees and branch connections in pipeline with permanent scraping A14 facilities, allow free passage of sphere scrapers, scrapers with cups or discs and/or gauging plates, and instrumented scrapers. The branch is provided with guide bars if branch bore exceeds 60 % of the run bore, or for branch pipe sizes 6-inch NPS, if cleaning scrapers A15 with spring mounted brushes is required by the Operating Department, (see Attachment 2 - Standard Drawing AC-036548).

The pipeline system has provisions to control the velocity of the scraper A16 at all times, and to receive and dispose of liquid slugs and/or solids brought in by the scraper. Scraper trap station is designed for bi-directional scraping, in case: a) The pumping is in either direction (shuttle lines). A17 b) The source of water and/or the disposal site of water used for hydrostatic testing may be on either end of the pipeline. Scraper trap station piping for on-stream scraping operations is in A18 accordance with Standard Drawing AC-036541 (P&ID), (see Attachment 3). For a barred tee in the mainline, the distance between centerline of A19 branch and near end of trap isolation valve, is kept to a minimum and, if more than three pipe diameters, is sloped back to the branch. A20 A tieline valve at the branch of the tee, at the minimum practical distance from the mainline is provided

A bypass line between tieline valve and trap, with a kicker valve and a A21 second block valve, to provide tight shut-off in the bypass line, is provided. A22 Small size pressure equalizing valve around the trap isolation valve and around the kicker valve, is provided.

A small size equalizing line with locked open block valve is provided to connect the small diameter end of the trap with the other end, to prevent A23 unwanted pressure differential when a scraper seals off the narrow part of the trap. NOTE: The equalizing valves are suitable for throttling and give tight shut off. A double valve drain system sized to permit drainage of the trap within approximately 15 minutes, is provided. A24 NOTE: A check valve shall be installed if back flow from the disposal system could otherwise occur. A sampling connection is installed at the bottom of the scraper receiver, A25 if connections with valves for the injection of chemicals at launching stations are required. A26 A pressure gauge is provided near the trap closure, and another one on the mainline near the trap isolation valve.

Scraper passage indicators are installed: a) on the mainline, one scraper length downstream and beyond the barred tee on each launcher; A27 b) near the small diameter side of the reducer on each receiver; c) at approximately 1.5 km upstream of onshore receiver stations if required by the Operating Department. If scraper trap is provided at the end of pipeline near an on-shore plant area , it is in a scraper trap area inside of the plant SSD fence. A28 NOTE: The lateral piping between trap and plant shall be constructed above grade, except as permitted per SAES-L-310. A29 Generally, the scraper trap is oriented as away from any critical equipment as possible, (per SAES-L-100).

SAES-L-420, Sec. 9, (8.1) SAES-L-420, Sec. 9, (8.2.1) SAES-L-420, Sec. 9, (8.2.2) SAES-L-420, Sec. 9, (8.2.3)

For on-land and near shore pipelines, the distance between critical plant A30 equipment measured from the closure door, is not less than 45 m, ( per SAES-L-100). Onshore and offshore scraper trap is oriented such that no equipment nor above grade piping, is within a sectorial area, 45 m radius by 20 A31 degrees, (10 degrees to each side of the centerline of the trap) from the closure door.

Platforms are provided for easy access to valve actuators and closure A32 operating mechanism. NOTE: All valves shall be accessible from one side of the trap. At all scraper trap stations, the piping that cross connects the upstream A33 and downstream pipelines, and associated kicker and equalizer lines, shall be constructed above grade. The SPI on receivers is located 150 mm upstream of the reducer. The A34 distance from the centerline of the kicker line to the attachment weld of the closure door collar, does not exceed one trap diameter. B. Branch Connections: B1 Branch connections shall either be welded, forged or extruded. Reinforcing pads required by the specified code are fully welded and provided with a 3 mm-6 mm vent hole. The tapped hole is filled with heavy grease.
