Arohana Dairy Private Limited

India is the worlds largest milk producer, highest consumer and the second largest processor. In August 2009, Arohana Dairy Private Limited was set up to tackle the problems of productivity that plague Indias dairy sector, which is estimated to double over the next 5 years. Arohana is seeking to create highly productive Dairy clusters by providing conveniences to the dairy farmer enabling her to: Expand herd size, Adopt to appropriate automation at the community level and De-mystify the technical and scientific aspects of dairy farming thereby significantly augmenting her income Arohana's strategy is more milk from each cow, more cows for each farmer, and more farmers in each village. Currently working in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu in South India with a cluster of 34 villages. Milk is chilled and sold wholesale. As Dairy farming is central to India's rural economy, the scope for impact is immense. Arohana has won acclaims in India and abroad and has won a spot at the Unreasonable Institute, 2011 as being one of the ventures that will define progress in our times. Position: Manager of Operations The Manager of Operations will be prime implementer of the vision of the organization and will manage the procurement of milk as devised by the Company's policy and management of chilling plant. This will include coordinating with the Tamil Nadu Veterinary University, NGO partners, Banks and Credit Co-operative Societies, Activity-Based Groups and Arohanas Milk Pouring Members

Responsibilities: Oversee the recruitment of villagers to procure milk as per set norms, which will involve: Ensuring clean milk production Adherence to quality and freshness parameters Establishing of village-level infrastructure such as milking machines and Bulk Milk coolers Effectively roll-out Arohanas Dairy Development Plan covering fodder, veterinary service and allied activities to ensure sustainability of the dairy business Ensure NGO partners work in accordance with the guidelines provided by the university, periodic monitoring and evaluation. Co-ordinate with Micro-finance partners, Banks and Credit Co-operative Societies and extend micro-finance loans Co-ordinate with University to ensure ongoing, knowledge extension and training for farmers

Plan and oversee operations of the Milk Chilling Plant

Qualifications: A post graduate degree in Agricultural Science, Social work, Development and/or Management 3 years work experience preferred Exposure to microfinance is critical Demonstrated capacity to work in a challenging, rural environment Willingness to learn quickly and ability to provide low cost, local solutions Willingness to work long hours including weekends and holidays as necessary Dedicated to the mission of the organization Key Relationships: Activity-Based Group members who manage the company's procurement business Milk Pouring Members who are the primary owners of the cows Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Thanjavur Animal Husbandry Department, Thanjavur Exotic Animal Breeding Farm, Eachankottai, Thanjavur District Field Officers (Internal resource, direct reportee) Milk Reception and testing team (Internal resources, direct reportees) Supervisor-Logistics (Internal resource, direct reportee) Logistics Partners (Internal resource, direct reportee) Finance and Accounts Manager (Internal resource) Chief Operating Officer (Internal resource, reporting authority) Chief Executive Officer (Internal resource)

Work Conditions: A/C and internet access may not be available on a continuous basis Based out of Thanjavur, travel into villages on several days a week would be required Motorbike or equivalent will be provided with allowance for petrol
