Blue, Red and Green Books

Changes in the web bearing and buckling tables Changes in the tables for members subject to axial load and bending Increased compression resistances of slender sections Section properties tables now include cold-formed hollow sections, parallel flange channels, ASB and deep universal beams Price: Non-Members: 35, SCI and BCSA Members 26.25

Since the introduction of BS 5950-1: 2000 the SCI, and BCSA, have published three guides to help designers get to grips with and make the most of the revised code. These are: The Steelwork Design Guide to BS 5950-1:200 Volume 1 (6th Edition) The Blue Book Handbook of Structural Steelwork (3rd Edition) The Red Book Joints in Steel Construction: Simple Connections The Green Book. Major changes to the design rules include reduced capacities for some sections, revised bending resistances for Class 3 and 4 sections, increased compression resistances for Class 4 sections, new resistance tables for axial load and bending checks and new web bearing and buckling tables.

The Green Book

The Green Book gives essential guidance for structural steelwork connections for use in buildings designed by the Simple Method i.e. braced frames where connections carry mainly shear and axial loads. Design guidance was originally published in two separate volumes. The new publication contains all this and much more. The major additions are: Inclusion of design guidance for bolted connections to hot finished structural hollow sections using Flowdrill or Hollo-Bolts Use of fin plates for deep beams Inclusion of design procedures for double lines of bolts in double angle web cleats and fin plates Improved structural integrity guidance Use of fully threaded bolts Inclusion of bracing connections Inclusion of slotted and kidney shaped holes Price: Non-Members: 70, SCI or BCSA Members 52.50. The Blue Book

The Blue Book is the essential handbook for steel designers, with comprehensive coverage of all steel sections and member resistances. There are several additional features to the 6th Edition including: Effective Section Property Tables Cold Formed Hollow Sections as well as hot rolled Parallel Flange Channels Deep Universal Beams Price: Non-Members: 70, SCI or BCSA Members: 52.50

The Red Book

The Red Book gives practical design guidance, worked examples, section properties and member capacities. The primary changes in the handbook are: New practical design guidance New worked examples
