When is the report due?

Practical work reports are to be handed in to the Engineering Student Centre. Students who wish to take part in the September 2013 graduation ceremony, final reports should be submitted during the week 11-15 March 2013. For students who wish to take part in the May 2014 graduation ceremony, final reports should be submitted during the week 5-9 August 2013.

Tonkin & Taylor / ACENZ Best Practical Work Report Award (Part IV) The Association of Engineers of New Zealand runs this competition for the best Part IV practical work report. To be eligible, the reports must have been handed in during the week 11-15 March 2013. All Part IV students who have worked at ACENZ registered companies are invited to participate. Application forms are available from the Engineering Student Centre or download from ACENZ website.

You must provide a separate report for each period of practical work. Your reports must be less than 25 pages long, comply with the material given in lectures for ENGGEN204 and must contain: Title page The title page contains your name, department, name and address of your employer, dates of the work period, date of the report. Summary A brief summary of no more than 300 words of the whole report; nature of organisation, type of work done, skills learned, conclusions drawn.

Acknowledgements To thank the people who have given you help in your work. Table of Contents Section headings and corresponding page numbers, a list of figures, list of tables: figure/table numbers and titles, corresponding page numbers. Introduction Outline the nature of the enterprise and / or products of the employer. Early sections These sections could include information on:

Layout of works or plant. Staff organisation structure. Number of employees engaged in various work. General comments on buildings. Plant layout. Technical facilities. Amenities for staff.

Central sections In these sections you should provide a full description of the work you undertook and any other activities observed. You should also record your impressions about the organisation and its performance. It would also be appropriate to comment on the skills you have developed and any lessons learnt. Conclusions List the conclusions drawn and any skills you learned during the work period. Bibliography If needed. Appendices If needed.
