Fundamentals of Power Semiconductor Controlled Electric Drives Introduction to electric drives and its components, Review of power semiconductor devices and power converters, Dynamics of electric drives, Control of electric drives, Calculation of motor power rating and Selection procedures for variable--speed drives.
2. DC Motor Drives 8

Starting and braking mechanism, Speed control: armature voltage control, field flux control and armature resistance control, Phase controlled rectifier fed DC drives, Dual-converter, Chopper control of DC motors -- Two and four quadrant choppers, Regenerative and dynamic braking, Closed--loop control. 3. Switched Reluctance Drives 3

Torque production mechanism, Machine operation under saturation, Different modes of operation, Power converters, Torque control mechanism, Rotor position sensing, Variable-speed drive operation. 4. AC Motor Drives Space Vector theory of rotating field machine, Dynamic model of AC machine: Induction machine, permanent magnet synchronous machine. Scalar control of induction machine.
